I've built five houses the best house and home building experience was delivered by Trusst.

Someone once told me that a builder is only as good as their worse subcontractor. Hence why I gave Trusst 2 stars. . I have been in my house for 3 years. Where do I start? I won't go into the awful experience with the sales guy. He soon after left the company. Good news for them. The only thing I found that went well (uneventful) was the design phase because I knew what I wanted. However, since it was my first home build, I didn't realize everything would be builder grade. After all, I had heard Trusst was such a good builder that I did expect junk. Live and learn. For starters, I wanted a few things done or not done -- like no chair rail in my dining room, and a zero-entrance shower. I was told by the design staff to let the project manager know at hand-off. Fine. I did what I was told. At that time, the PM did say that he couldn't do a zero-entrance in the shower (he wouldn't be able to keep water just in the shower area), but would make it lower. Fine. He didn't. I visited the build about once per month. I reminded the PM several times (even in writing) about the chair rail. When we were doing our last walkthrough, the chair rail was installed. When I told him he was not supposed to install that, he told me it was standard and he works by contract, not by emails. All of my handles on my kitchen cabinets were crooked. The towel rack in my bathroom is still not level...The carpet is awful. Most people have replaced theirs in a year. I will be doing that this year. There was paint sprayed all over the floor. I moved in June of 2022. The following summer, my AC stopped working. My air handler pan kept filling up and shutting the system off. Long story short, and after spending $500 for the original installation company to service it, the issue turned out to be a loose connection inside the air handler that was done during install. The return air duct had 5 gallons of water in it - water that had been accumulating for a year. When I was in the garage storage area one day about a year ago, I noticed a wet spot around the main water valve. The connection was loose. Last year, when I had additional insulation installed in the attic, the contract pointed out a leak over the lanai. After contacting a roofer, I found out that the shingles were not installed correctly around the skylights. Plus, the proper membrane was not used under the shingles (not code). I had to have the roof over the lanai replaced after year 2 -- over $2,000... Recently, I was sitting on my front porch and looked up only to see a water stain around one of the can lights. The roofer fixed a nail pop with hopes that fixes the problem. If not, that roof will have to be replaced since, again, the proper membrane was not used over the porch. At just about the end of the one-year warranty period, I discovered the front porch was not graded properly (not away from the house). The guys handling the warranty blew me off. Finally I got to a supervisor and he came out and said that I was correct. He worked with the contractor to fix it. The contractor had to redo it twice. At that time, I pointed out that my driveway and sidewalk had rust stains. The builder blamed it on the lawn maintenance company. I checked with the company applying the fertilizer. He said they stay away from driveways because they would be spending a lot of money cleaning them. It wasn't from fertilizer. In fact, my sidewalk is not close to where the fertilizer is sprayed. It is definitely from rebar. Picture attached. Trusst had a good price point, which is why a lot of people have used them, and it was the reason why I used them -- that and they were known (at least in the past) as a good builder. Maybe they are better than some others. But I am sure there are others who are a lot better. I would definitely look elsewhere if I were to build in this area again. read more

Trusst Builder Group - Rust stain on sidewalk - General Contractors Near Me - Leland, North Carolina

I purchased a home from Trusst in Brunswick Forest (Leland, NC) last year. We were immediately drawn to the design and purchased the home the next day, relocating from Virginia within three weeks. While we still love the home, our experience with Trusst over the past year has been a mixed one. Unlike previous builders we've worked with, Trusst instructed us to contact subcontractors directly and only loop them in if issues weren't resolved. While some subs were responsive, others were not, requiring repeated involvement from Trusst. In general, Trusst was helpful when contacted directly, but this process added unnecessary frustration. Our two biggest concerns involve: 1. Landscaping: The landscaper used by Trusst has been unprofessional and inconsistent. Many homes in our community have dead plants or lawns due to rushed, poor-quality work. In our case, 11 dead plants took nearly 10 months and countless emails to be replaced. It seems resolution is only given to those who persist, leaving many homeowners without support -- an unacceptable practice, especially when Trusst sold 34 homes here totaling approximately $18 million. 2. Damage to Common Areas: Construction damaged sidewalks and sod in multiple locations. It took six months and numerous emails to get the sidewalks fixed. We are still waiting on repairs to damaged grass and common spaces, which the community may have to fund if not addressed. This should not fall on homeowners. While Trusst's construction quality is generally strong, their management of subcontractors and transition of completed homes to owners is lacking. Despite stating that Trusst "prides itself on quality," the CEO declined to meet with our HOA board after we raised widespread concerns -- including full-floor replacements for 10 homes, ongoing landscaping issues, and poor communication. We expected better post-sale service, especially from a builder that claims to prioritize quality. We hope Trusst will take these concerns seriously and address the remaining issues in good faith -- not just for those who persistently follow up, but for all homeowners in our community. read more

Currently building with Trusst, a few words of warning. While the sales staff and selection staff will tell you everything you see in the model is standard it is NOT. But you won't know until they are building and then they will act as if it's no big deal to add it in at your cost, with the excuse of we stopped doing that right before you signed your contract. I have tried to reach the upper management level and only got a spark of attention from the beam counters when I held their payment. For such a small company you would think communication would be a little better. I have thousands racked up in change orders for item that were all standard when I looked at their model. Looking forward to getting this done so I can sell it and hopefully get my money back to build the house I thought I was getting with Trusst. No building process goes perfectly. There are always tweaks that neeD to be managed. Trusst builds a good home which includes many upgrades but there are still other upgrades you can pay for additionally. The choicE is yours. It is made perfectly clear that whatever is in the model is includEd with the price of your home. I love my home, I worked well with the Building Superintendent, Alan, to make changes, and i enjoy the camaraderie of the neighbors. The workmanship of the homes appears to be excellent. I take delivery of the home on July 22nd and hope it goes well.

We met Professional and friendly sales folk when we were considering Trusst for our new home. We haven't heard from one of them since the house was completed. Why? 1. Construction manager readily available but has hard time getting sub contractors to return for follow up work. 2. Use of sub contractors whose work seems rushed. Brick work has mortar stains throughout. 3. No follow up with us from the front office after they get paid. Have not heard from the original salesman. 4. Repairs lingering for over 6 months. Prior to selecting a builder, We had heard horror stories from many folk regarding builders in this area (LelandNC). We did our homework or so we thought that TRUSST Builders were the builders for us. After all, they did get the most recommendations. Our house has been built. We spent a pretty penny having our house built. There are several items needing attention, one of which is very serious. In their defense, they do send the contractors and then they don't finish. We couldn't recommend them but then again....does any builder do better. We've only had one house built and all we know is that we wouldn't have them build another house for us. read more

I have termites in a Trusst Builder Group home within the first three years of ownership. Although I was initially told by Trusst and PESTCO representatives that soil was treated for termites, a PESTCO manager just stated to me they do not treat soil; just spray the framing lumber. Anything to save a few bucks. read more
