At the beginning of the representation, my spouse and I, who are native Portuguese speakers with limited English proficiency, understood through verbal discussions that the attorney fee would be 26%. We did not have a Portuguese interpreter present when signing the agreement, and we relied heavily on the explanations provided at that time. Over the course of more than five years, the case was transferred between several attorneys, and we received very little communication regarding how attorney fees might be calculated or applied. Near the conclusion of the case, we learned that a substantially higher percentage would be charged than we had expected based on our understanding at the beginning of the relationship. The lack of clear and consistent communication regarding fees was the most frustrating aspect of our experience. We also had concerns about delays, limited updates, and the overall transparency of the process. Every client's experience may be different, but I encourage anyone considering this firm to carefully review all fee provisions, request explanations in their preferred language if necessary, and obtain written confirmation of any important representations regarding costs and fees before signing.
