This place was fun! Has a bit of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe but the barbecue was pretty good. Lots of kittens running around.

Been trading there off and on since 2017. Really enjoy the moment I walk through the door. It's like stepping back in time. So much to see and they have lots of useful ranch type items. What a pleasant surprise finding this hidden gem! We split a sliced brisket sandwich with red onions and pickles. Our two sides were Mac and cheese and Cole slaw. The brisket sandwich was absolutely delicious and the two sides were just as good! Free refills on tea and lemonade, which was perfect since we both love Arnold Palmers. Service was great. Just stopped by Watson's BBQ for lunch. Chopped brisket sandwich & a black cherry cola. This little joint is no joke. The Brisket was moist & flavorful not to smokey with a little BBQ sauce & a bun that was so soft. A little bit of heaven in every bite. The Watson's & staff are super friendly & inviting. We stopped by here 1/12/23, in route on a cross country trip. It had five stars so we thought we'd give it a go. Pros: 1.) Friendly Staff/owners 2.) Clean 3.) BBQ sauce + Mac& Cheese, was good 4.) Was well packaged for the road. Cons: 1.) Food was exceptionally low quality. Apart from the BBQ sauce, the rest of the meal fell very flat. Pulled pork was okay, brisket was tough--fatty--chewy. They were out of turkey. 2.) The beans served are not BBQ beans. It's plain, unseasoned pinto beans. We've been to 100's of BBQ joints and that was a first for us. Very lacking. Never in my life have I've been served plain pinto beans at a BBQ joint. 3.) They toss on two slices of white bread with a little prepackaged cup of margarine. Again, very bland. I don't personally need bread or rolls, but I think if you're going to serve it, Texas toast or a roll, is probably the baseline standard to attempt versus a slice of white bread. Also, use real butter, it's pennies more, and 100% worth it. 4.) They put a sugar cookie on top. Nice touch, but the cookie tasted a bit stale and was hard. I would rather they nix the cookie and put that $$ into better bread and real butter. But maybe nix all of that and nail the main course, elevating the caliber of the meat and beans. read more

Stopped by here on our Route 66 trip. Being from Texas, I wasn't expecting much from the barbecue. Was I wrong! I got a salad with smoked turkey. OMG, it was delicious. The greens were fresh. They did not use iceberg lettuce. Instead, there was Romain, spinach and other greens. There was a hint of sauce on the meat. With the ranch dressing and the guacamole, everything complimented perfectly. A wonderful cookie topped the meal. We also received a sample of green chili apple cobbler. I would never have expected these to pair well. Again, I was wrong. When in Tucumcari, I highly recommend Watson's barbecue. read more

I LOVE this place!!! They have a great selection of interesting, quirky clothes, antiques and artifacts. That antique piano at the door is super fun. But the best part, the very very best part is the BBQ. I had the brisket which was tender, juicy and smokey. I also had the mac n cheese, potato salad and peach cobbler all of which was a delight. Outside they have all kinds of art sculptures and amazing wonders to look at. There was also picnic tables and a bunch of super cute kitties who wouldn't let me pet them but blessed me with the "lovey eyes". The owners were incredibly sweet and helpful. The regaled my friend and I with tales from Tucumcari. The whole experience was quite an adventure and one not to be missed. If you're ever driving by you should stop. You won't be disappointed. read more

I am so glad our family stopped here. Donuts, BBQ and classic hardware. The staff was extraordinarily friendly and the food was delicious. I'm a little surprised there aren't more reviews of this place considering how good it is. This is not your typical restaurant and odds are when you arrive you won't be sure that you've arrived at the right spot. You have, just walk in and follow the bbq smell! Enjoy! read more

Wondered the town and found this place down a side road. They went way out of there way for us. They gave us two big servings of brisket, ribs (best I've had), slaw and tater salad, sugar cookies, and bread, the brisket was so good we had to ask for more. And then we got a hole basket of cookies. I couldn't believe the price. So I bought more stuff and left knowing I will come back next time I'm on interstate 40 in New Mexico. read more
