I came in with my nails already cut and trimmed cause they might mess that up (I like my nails square) by the time she goes and starts putting the nail polish they looked round. I told her hey next time just leave them cause I don't like my nails round. She then blames me saying "You came in here with nails short" I said "yes but not round". Continues to tell me how next time to pay more attention to what they do to my feet cause that's how they normally do the nails there. I said well I don't like them but ok. No more fuzz with her, but DARLING LoL she got mad I mean that was it for her, Customer service said good bye and left the building after I made that comment. A couple of weeks ago I went to Tulip Nails on Kirkwood Highway to get a nail dip and gel pedicure. A week later 5 of my nails were chipped. Terrible! I got the acrylic dip nails (for anyone not familiar with the process, they glue the faux nail on and then dip a brush in powder, spread it on to build up the nail, and apply gel polish on top). They were absolutely stunning! Every time I visit this nail salon, it always feels like the service and quality improves. They got exactly what I wanted in just a few words. The place isn't noisy at all and quite relaxed, and has an awesome vibe. never go to this nail salon. first time trying this place me and my friend went before i went on vacation. as soon as we walked in something was off. place was disgusting, dirty, looks like they've never clean it. walls were chipped and broken. we went in to get a pedicure and manicure. pedicure was 2/5 the water was freezing cold and didn't put any type of massage in it. she put my legs into the water then took the out and just painted them. so unprofessional. then we wanted to get gel x but the owner i'm guessing said we couldn't because our nails were too short so we just got tips. the lady who did my nails so extremely rude. didn't talk to me once. she was laughing with the lady next to her and on her phone will doing my nails. she was screaming while she talking on the phone and started crying while laughing and had to stop service. the only time she talked to me was maybe 10 words. when she cut them too long i asked her to do them a little shorter. little did i know she cut them way to short and shaped them awfully my nails are all different sizes. she didn't even ask if the shaping was okay she just kept going. i wanted almond red french tip with chrome. when she did the french tip they all were also messed up and different sizes. when i found out that chrome was 15 DOLLARS i said no im not paying for that. when i went home i noticed how awful my nails were. next morning i called and a said how i didn't like them and how awful they looked hoping i could come in and she would fix them. the owner then continued to yelled in my face and say how it's my fault and i should've said something. unfortunately i couldn't have because she was going so fast and had already cut them. she was saying how it's my fault and how i can't blame them for this. she was yelling on the phone not even letting me talk. i eventually gave up and hung up the phone. i will NEVER be back worst nail service ever. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had. Not only did it look bad but it was so painful, ruined my nail beds and tried to convince me everything was fine. There was gel all over my fingers and they acted like it was no big deal. Just come back tomorrow and they'll fix it. My time is precious and I can't just spend hours in a salon. The least they could have done was not make me pay for their nail tech wasting my time. I don't like to write bad reviews but save your time, money and nails and go somewhere better. This is the third time I've been to this salon in the last couple of months and there have been little things wrong but never enough to write a bad review. Also I noticed their employees seem to be overworked and the last time I had my nails done the owners 14 year old daughter did my nails and my nails chipped and broke after about 3 days. The last photo is what I asked for but in white and only if they had a white that wouldn't get dirty in couple of days. I tried to be understanding because everyone has an off day but after expressing that I was in pain and wasn't happy she kept telling me she would fix it. When they were about to close and it took double the time and it still wasn't looking any better I asked to speak to a manager who told me to come back tomorrow. She didn't get a manager and I was mortified I had to walk over and interrupt someone else's service to speak with someone who was a manager. After already wasting so much time there I didn't want to come back plus I kept telling them I was leaving town the next day and couldn't come back. I tried to be understanding and explained that I was going to have to pay double to get my nails fixed somewhere else. I asked to just pay for my pedicure and and tip the nail techs for their time but not have to pay for such a bad job. My nails looks like thick tacky eagle talons. After 1 day they were stained. The manager and nail tech both started yelling at me so I paid and walked out. It ended up costing me and extra $80 at another salon to get them fixed and the nail tech said the first job was the most disgusting job she's ever seen and the reason it was so painful was because she had gotten gel all over my cuticles and underneath my skin. Thank goodness I found such a wonderful salon out of town. I will never go to Tulip on Kirkwood highway again and I'm open to suggestions in Wilmington if anyone knows of a better salon to go to. read more

They are consistent, and work hard to accommodate. I always get gel nails with gel polish. Also a pedicure. I love Tao or Kim for hands and anyone for a pedicure. Worse nail experience ever . My acrylics are cut un even. The nail tech was very sloppy while she was doing my nails . She had polish and gel all over my fingers and top of my hand . She didn't bother to clean it off . When i asked her to get it off she said it will come off when I wash my hands.... Dried nail polish doesn't come off with soap alone so I got nail polish remover from home. I showed her the design of what I wanted and she said it was not possible . I've been getting my nails done for years and it is very possible . Tried telling her exactly how to do it and I found the polish she would need to do it. She still refuse . Listen - You're not going to get better prices than you will here. A full gel manicure for $22? Sold. You're not going to get the gorgeous aesthetic & mind-blowing customer service, but they're super sweet here, and you get enough for $22. My nails last 3 weeks every single time. I see that a lot of people are commenting that the owner's rude - It's truly not the case. She might come off harsh, but I think it's just a case of miscommunication. You'll be taken care of here- for WAY cheaper than it would cost you if you went anywhere else. And they're open late! And on Sunday's! It's just worth it. read more

Update- I gave Tulip another try. It was one of the only salons open on a Sunday in the area. I received french tips painted on with gel polish, $50. They were lovely at first. Now, less than a week later, the polish is chipping on every finger and acrylic is breaking from the cuticle. I have never had this problem before nor do I handle abrasive chemicals. I go to this salon sometimes for a gel manicure and never had an issue. I went in today and asked for the picture posted from Pinterest, I'm going to Cancun tomorrow so wanted something simple but cute. I'm not too big on flashy colors or designs and this is big for me because I don't do any color other than red or dark purple/black. I was about to get the acrylics on and a customer came in and wanted a wax and then I felt the nail tech was being rushed. She only put one clear coat of polish on the base and then the neon green tips, and then once more one coat of clear. I am not very good at speaking up so I just let it be, but I know I should have said something. She didn't do my cuticles which are horrendous, didn't trim my real nails, and it all resulted with nails that look like this. I'm super upset about it because I've gone here before with no problems :( I purchased Bubble Bath by OPI at CVS to try and make them look better, but I shouldn't have had to. I used to go here all of the time and never had any problems until recently. I went again after not being here for a couple of years because it was my go-to salon for a while. The girl who did my nails was very young and rushed through doing them and rude. I got gal polish and they started chipping after only a week. I thought it was because I got them done by the wrong person maybe and decided to give them another try. I went back about a week and a half ago to get them done again and the lady was very rude and rushed through them AGAIN! They don't even speak any English so it's very hard to communicate what you want as well. They speak Spanish to eachother the whole time they are doing your nails. I have been going to Tulip for about 10 years now. The owner is extremely attentive and observant of the salon and her employees. I've been going to Eliz for about 3 1/2 years now and she has never once let me down. My mother, aunt, and closest friends all go here - my mom stopped going to the salon she went to all of my life to come here, even though it's a bit of a drive for her! I see some people on here complaining that the prices aren't listed - how about just asking what the prices are before getting your manicure/pedicure? Not having the prices up makes it seem more professional to me. In all the years I have been going they have never surprised me with any crazy fees, so not having the prices listed does not bother me one bit. Not good at all. I paid $62 to get acrylics put on. Nit even for a manicure, they didn't soak my nails, cut off the dead skin, left me with crust and glue around my nail and then all the women laughed at me when I said I didn't like them. I will never come back to this nail salon again. I'm really into nails so I know a quality shop when I see one. Prices should be available and posted somewhere. Customers shouldn't have to wait until after the service is provided to find out prices. I generally like this place because their prices are normally reasonable and have been going here more recently for the past 2 months. Today I am extremely disappointed that I have wait d 45+ minutes to get my nails done. People that came in after me or got a pedi as well are being seen first. Not good business practice. Have you ever gotten a pedicure and the water feels dirty and it feels like you never even got a pedicure at all and your feet feel more dirty than when they started.. Yeah... exactly my experience! As Im getting a pedicure more people walk by the shop as to come in and the girl looks up and groans and sighs. This should have been the first sign. The paint was horrible as if my 6 year old daughter could have done it. I was in a rush and needed to get out fast so i didnt complain much. I then got my refil on my nails and they look so blotchy. My nails that they look a horrible mess. shape is all out of wack and color is sloppy and messy. I was at the point of leaving in the mid of my service because the multiple (yes multiple) people they had working on me and changing my seats several times, had me so frustrated I was so annoyed. This nail salon establishment has considerably gone downhill over this past year. I come here casually for eyebrows and pedicures, however since my last two encounters I will NOT be returning. The staff has changed. Im not saying that is the reason for the poor service because some of the new staff were nice but they seem to have an attitude at times. Myself and my daughter came in for a pleasurable experience and I couldnt wait to leave. They were properly staffed however it seemed like they didnt know how to handle the customers coming in. They messed up my eyebrows the last time I went by taking off too much to where one was uneven and I had to make them grow all the way out. I choose this salon due to their rating and I have never been so disappointed. I walked in and got Jenn or maybe it was Jemm either way they seemed very nice at initial contact. She asked if I wanted my nails trimmed down and I said yes please. I looked down as she was cleaning around the cuticle and my big toe nail had been cut down below the normal toe line. I had dropped something on the nail a year ago so it was raised from the skin somewhat but never had anyone just cut it below the normal skin line in 30 some years. I said, that nail was cut pretty low and she said it looked normal to her. I took pictures as this was not normal. It almost appeared as I had a half of a toe nail and it saddened me that she was trying to make me feel bad as if something was wrong with my vision. Knowing if that were her toe she would have felt the same. Instead of apologizing and acknowledging she cut to much off she developed an attitude and tried to ridicule me and began talking in her native language all of a sudden when they were previously talking in English. This is the first sign that they are talking about you and they think we as American's don't understand what they are communicating. So I asked could she do an acrylic overlay so the two big toes would be the same height on the nail bed and she said it would cost me $5.00 more which really angered me. I've never had this issue at a salon before and only went here because of the overall rating and the location which was close to my new house as my other salon was far away. I had to go to another shop not far from there and get my pedicure redone costing me another $40.00 and my nails look fabulous now. Now after reading all the reviews prior to writing this one it appears that all of the negative reviews are mainly from African Americans and not too many from Caucasians or their own kind. I don't usually call the race card but their is definitely some consistency to this pattern of behavior being displayed here. I will never go back there again and have already spread the word of my experience to those I know. They should take a step back and realize that they are also of color and should be behaving with some respect and professionalism to all kinds. I was raised up to kill them with kindness and not to argue with a customer. It would have been so much more rewarding for both of us if they would have just corrected the situation and not try to get over on me. I watched several other customers who came in and got their toes trimmed down and none of them looked like mine as they were all even to the skin at the top of the toe nail. just amazing! When I went for my 2 week visit I was informed May no longer works there she's at the other location. The manager recommend a gentleman by the name of My (at least that's what she said his name was). He did not speak or understand English. After explaining to the manager what I wanted done to my nails and her translating to the nail tech I still did not get what I requested. They will be opening downtown Wilmington soon and she will be going there, she was professional and did a through job. I was booked that night to come back to see sunny for my nail fill. First off, $25 is a great price to pay for a mani-pedi. But when I walk in a salon, I like to see prices posted. ..somewhere. My daughter and I came in together. For both of us, I asked for a basic pedicure and a manicure. What we received were polish changes on our toes, and a manicure. The woman who took care of my daughter did a nice job, but doesn't converse in English. That's not pleasant. The young man who took care of me was hurried, spoke little English, at least to me, and did a very sloppy job. When I returned home, my husband asked if I had done my own toes! The technicians are much more friendly and "Tho" (I believe the owner or co-owner) is such a sweet, down-to-earth woman and usually treats you as if she's known you for a while! It can get pretty busy at times, so patience is a virtue--especially during peak days and hours (as any business), but the technicians make it a point to keep an eye on managing operations in order to get you seated within a reasonable time... Beware! Their waxing room is very unsanitary. They do not use gloves when giving a Brazilian Wax and they use the same wax for all wax services which is just gross. The owner who conducted my wax tried to talk me out of a Brazilian explaining that "it may be to much for me." She rushed the service and didn't even wax me completely. I have not been to Tulips since last summer and although the interior was improved the unfriendliness wasn't when I returned. I found them rude and unprofessional. They only speak Vietnamese with each other and are annoyed when questions about their conversation. My technician who is also the owner left me to run after a customer who had walked out due to wait time. She never asked me about the shape or length preference and bitched about the fact that I had my own color which wasn't a gel and the time it would take to put a gel top on it. I will not be returning to this salon which is a shame because I tried to be loyal hoping for changes with the high turnover of staff. read more
