I've also just discovered it's now called the Allanwater Brewhouse! A group of us visited here on Saturday night. I'd never been to Bridge of Allan but was pleasantly surprised at what a nice area it seemed to be. The brewery is off the main road and it can be a little confusing where to go but thankfully we stumbled through the right door (look for people milling around in the beer garden, and then go in there!). Inside it's a pretty interesting space to sit in - high ceiling, lots of beers adorning the walls as well as beer paraphernalia and a cosy, well worn vibe. We ended up sitting right by the fire (which, although it wasn't on was still warm) on beer kegs with cushions which was a really cosy spot. For a Saturday night it was busy but not heaving so it was good to be able to get a seat and have a chat without it being too noisy or cramped. I didn't go up the bar myself so can't comment on the staff or prices, but they seemed to have an interesting selection of beers (mango) and I enjoyed my oj & lemonade (haha!).

I thought it was supposed to be a hazy, but didn't have the cloudiness to it, so I guess not. Had a higher IBU, but didn't taste bitter to me. Otherwise, just had a standard lager and then the Hazy Helles, which was ok, not great. Service was just average, as well. With the missing dinner items and then maybe being checked on once or twice, was just ok. The place has a cool vibe, though, and nice atmosphere.

The brewery tap is open all year round with up to five cask beers and two keg beers (all fyne ales, plus a cider). They also offer coffee and tea, plus hot and cold food. The staff on the tour and in the tasting room were some of the nicest and most helpful of the 15 distilleries that we went to during a two week trip to Scotland specifically for distillery tours. The restaurant is on another level. It has a Michelin star and it is well deserved. You will need reservations. It is not cheap. It is worth it. If you're driving a van or an RV around Scotland, they let you camp in their parking lot, which is incredibly scenic next to the river whose waters they pull in to the distillery to cool the stills when they are running. The sounds of the Russian water will blow you to sleep. It may have been the excellent scotch that helped as well.

Getting to this place is a big task though, and the bigger and more difficult task is getting out of there if you have don't have your own car. We reached the spot using Uber but we couldn't find any Uber or taxi service to get out and into the city. There is a bus stop right opposite and the bus did not stop. We tried asking the security guard for some help as the staff left and no one were in there, but he kinda shooed us away. That was very rude. Then, we had to walk a lot to reach a train station.

This is a live distillery so it was fantastic to experience a functioning business and the steps and history behind the production of this mellow whiskey. My only complaint is that machines are very loud so it was difficult at times to hear our tour guide so be sure to get up close to him/her, they won't be creeped out or maybe they will be who cares you have paid for the experience. At the end of the tour we got to relax in the bar and have a whiskey, it really was a lovely end to a great week in a very cool city!
