I started seeing Dr. Ryan Gessay because of an issue I was having with my upper back. I don't know how to describe what it was other than a huge, crunchy knot that extended from my neck down to my shoulder blade and was hurt more or less all the time. I had been to my primary care physician who thought it was from overuse. The occupational health therapy people at my work suggested physical therapy, which is the opposite of my what doctor had said. He said the muscles were more than strong enough, it was likely overuse that was causing my issues. Massage would help relieve the pain temporarily for 10-48 hours depending on various factors, but it would always come back. This all made sense since my work involves being in front of a computer most of the day. My health care plan didn't cover chiropractor visits, so I paid out of pocket hoping to find a more long term solution -it was well worth every penny. When I first met Ryan and explained what I was experiencing, he said he had seen this type of thing before and it would likely take 6-8 visits to treat effectively. Ideally, I'd come once per week for 6-8 weeks, but with my work schedule (I travel a lot) that wasn't possible. We were still able to treat the problem in about 6-8 visits, and it's so much better now compared to before I started seeing him I don't even know where to start. I had never been to a chiropractor before, so wasn't really sure what to expect. Ryan was very reassuring, explained all the theory behind what he was doing, and really treated the root cause of the problem. Essentially, my levator scapula muscle had become very knotted together, almost 'like a steel rope' as Ryan described it. He performed something called micro fascia release in order to break down the muscle and connective tissue and restore the muscle back to its proper working condition. I'm a skeptical type, but my nagging shoulder discomfort (it started hurting last September after a yoga class) and tightness in my elbow from a bike crash (last November) finally drove me to seek help. Ryan is the brother of my favorite yoga teacher, who has taught me a ton about my own body and how to move safely and become both looser and stronger. I originally went to see Dr. Gessay for a pinched muscle in my neck. He was of course able to solve that issue very rapidly but he did something MUCH MORE amazing. In the normal course of my first visit he asked if I had any other ailments I wanted to address. I almost did not bring it up because the issue has been with me for so many years. I have learned to live with the fact that I have both golfers & tennis elbow in both elbows. I have visited numerous chiropractors, Physical Therapists and orthopedic surgeons over the years. The end result of all of that is I would wear hard plastic braces called "BandIT" on my elbows that allowed me to workout and play beach volleyball without pain. Of course, if I ever did so much as a just few pushups without the BandITs my elbows would throb with pain for at least a week. After just a few sessions Dr. Gessay was able to break through the "crud" (my word) that was restricting the normal use of my elbows. My OB referred me to Tune Chiropractic to align my hips to help with birth. Unfortunately, my little one decided to make her arrival before my appointment and labor left me with increased hip pain. A month later, alone with a newborn in tow, I came to the office. Turns out, one of my hips was out of whack making one leg longer than the other. I rarely write Yelp reviews but after what I experienced on Saturday I had to share. Dr.Ryan saved me yesterday. I re-injred my neck and back and saw him the following day. I feel almost 100% better and that was from one session. I didn't have to take any meds which is a change from injuries in the past. He has a unique way of healing that I feel is something that cannot be taught. Its in him and you can feel that the moment he puts his hands on you to determine what is going on. When I was pregnant, I began to have the dreaded sciatic pain that so many women suffer from during pregnancy. Despite my consistent yoga practice and massage therapy, the stabbing pain that woke me up at night did not subside. When I was four months into pregnancy, I finally went in for my first visit with Dr. Gessay. From the start, his adjustments brought me relief. This past August I suffered a severe sprained ankle while playing soccer. After months of rest, rehabilitation, and consultation by orthopedists, my ankle improved but never reached 100%. I do not think chiropractic can get any better than the level of expertise you receive from Dr. Gessay. He has such a great combination of intelligence to know how to diagnose your issues and hand/manipulation skills to translate that into results. He listens intently to your main concerns and carefully crafts a treatment plan around YOU and your specific list of problems. He is honest and his goal is to get you as efficiently as possible to a point in which you can simply come in for periodic maintenance visits. In that way, he is very conservative and it's clear that he has your best interest at heart. I have struggled with neck stiffness and pain for years. LOVE Dr. Gessay! We live in San Marcos and I HAD to see a chiropractor that day due to a knee injury. It was a Friday, and I didn't want to go through the weekend with a limp since I have a toddler to run after. I found another chiro who wasn't available on Friday, but Dr. Gessay fit me in. (Awesome #1) Let's just say, I came to the office with a limp and was not able to bend or put any pressure on my knee. And I left walking like a normal person! It was a miracle!! He took the time to explain what was going on with my knee in terms I could understand. (Awesome #2) My 20-month old was super wired and was ALL OVER THE PLACE! I mean, on top of me while I was on the table, pulling on me, jumping off and on the couch. But, Dr. Gessay was great with it, let her do her thing and even thought it was cute! Thankfully my search ended there as I knew I found the right place. He has helped me considerably in managing some chronic neck pain and tightness in my low back. Dr. Ryan Gessay has magic hands. I was down in North County to get some surfing in over the three day weekend, but tweaked my back while trying to get a little too Namaste gnarly in yoga. Someone tipped me off that Tune was the place to go. They were right! Dr. Ryan was delightfully thorough. He explained what was going on with my body and why. You can tell he loves what he does.
