I went to Tunz 4 U to get Apple CarPlay installed in my older BMW that I'm hoping will last me a few more years. Chris was super helpful with both ordering and installation--and it worked great... until my uncooperative iPhone threw us off the "happy path" and onto the "let's solve this puzzle" detour. Turns out the issue was on my end--my phone was missing what it needed to connect properly. But Chris stuck with me through all of it, troubleshooting patiently and kindly. He went way beyond the level of service we've come to expect these days. Even after I left with a working system in the car but no app on my phone, I figured I was on my own. I brought my 1966 Mustang coupe to Tunz for You, and couldn't be happier. The car needed a new stereo, had numerous electrical problems, and was a wiring nightmare under the dash. Chris and Dante installed a new Kenwood stereo and added footwell speakers in addition to the existing speakers behind the rear seat. They fixed the reverse lights, a shorting brake light switch, and the cigarette lighter receptacle. They also properly installed the existing tachometer, and removed residual wiring from a previously failed cruise control install. Chris stored the car inside at all times for a week, and kept me informed along the way while doing the work and waiting on parts. And he stayed well within the original quote for the work. No need to drive to Auburn or Sacramento-- we have a topnotch stereo and auto electrics repair shop right here in Nevada City. read more

After my entire stereo system from my pontoon boat was stolen, including stereo speakers and phone set up Chris (owner) replaced my system and it sounds amazing! He then had David assist me with the launch and tow to and from the lake. David also accompanied me to the hardware store to assist with purchasing the correct screws for the Bimini top. I went to Tunes 4 U today at their new location in Nevada City for some issues I have been having with my Apple CarPlay. I could not be happier with the service I received. The guy who helped me was very friendly and offered a quick solution to a very frustrating problem. He gave me my options and explained things in a clear and concise way. After all of 10 minutes my problem was fixed and I was ready to go! when it was time to pay, I was surprised to have the guy who helped me tell me he wasn't going to charge me. I popped in to see if they could help me with some bluetooth issues I was having with my car stereo. I did not purchase or have my stereo installed with these guys yet they helped me immediately, solved the issue and did even charge me to boot! I have had a few experiences with them. None of them good. The first time I called to see if they would install a remote start paging alarms system I had received as a gift. He asked me if it was an automatic or manual vehicle. I said manual, to which the immediately said no. When I began another sentence to inform him it was a manual transmission specific remote start, he cut my off saying "I said no". When I asked him why he won't because it's a manual he just said "because I wont." While I am sure there was a reasonable reason for him saying no, he wasn't going to be the one to inform me apparently. I ended up installing it myself. The second time I was forced to deal with them, because while a local body shop was repairing my rear bumper, someone had been inside the vehicle at some point and damaged my motorized touchscreen stereo. They said they would pay for it to be serviced, if Tunes4u did the service. All went well till they reinstalled the deck, the installer didn't hook up my subwoofer wires. When I asked them why my subwoofer wasn't working, the installer kept asking me if I was sure I had a subwoofer. I said ya I am sure, you can look in the trunk. He brought the car back out and told me there are not sub wires, and that I don't have a sub. At this point I was getting annoyed. I showed him the sub in the trunk. He then started to say how he looked all over in the dash and there aren't any RCA cabled back there. I then showed him where the wires were running up from the carpet in the center, running up the left side two the deck, by pulling them out and down into the floor board just by reaching up from underneath. He took it back and and connected it and I left. 30 days later, the motorization failed again. They pulled it back out and sent it in for repair. When it came back, the refused to install it without charging me the full $35 installation fee. It's not like they had to splice any wires for the harness like a new install, it was just plug it back in, and slide it in. No more than a few minutes of their time(if they can find the sub wires) but they wanted $35. It was still under warranty from the repair but they said that doesn't cover labor. Apparently, they somehow think $35 a minute is a reasonable charge to push on a Molex connector, push in the antenna connector, and push on an RCA cable. I did it in their parking lot in two minutes before I drove off. Terrible, terrible customer service. Go elsewhere. ***Update*** I went to sell my civic a month ago, and I cracked and broke the cover to my ANL fuse holder while cleaning up some stuff in the engine bay. This happened right before work, and I was supposed to meet someone to sell the car shortly after work. As Tunez4u was the only close shop and I couldn't drive to Auburn in time, I once again HAD to go here. I figured, oh well, I'm just gonna walk in, buy the fuse holder for my 120amp ANL fuse, leave and install it real quick. Should be real simple. Apparently, they somehow don't have a single ANL fuse holder. A Standard Fuse holder used in a lot of systems. All they had were the glass tube fuses, or circuit breakers. I came in expecting to spend max$20 on a fuse holder, and their cheapest solution was $60 for a glass tube fuse solution. Either that or almost $100 for the circuit breaker. I left. I cut notches in the side of a crappy tupperware I had in the car, put it around the fuse holder I had, tapped it up, and knocked $20 off the price of the car for the guy buying it, and showed him how much they are on Amazon.com. Another lame experience. read more

Okay so I decided to try to spend my money in our little town especially since we only have one stereo install place which is this one and even though some reviews explain that this guy charged too much usually and most people headed down the hill to Auburn or Sacramento but I decided to give it a try and let him know that the vehicle had been stolen and that I wasn't sure if the actuators were messed up or if it was just something electrical in that I brought it to him because I just didn't know and so half a day into the job he calls me to tell me and a kind of irritated that he had to tear my doors apart for 2 hours only to find out that he should have checked the relay under the hood which only took a minute and cost $15 but then he matter-of-factly just said that I owe for the 2 hours which was two hundred and after we were at $850 for a multiswitch install and the actuator I just told him to stop and let's not do anything at all at this point and so i went into his shop Thinking by the time I got there maybe he would have at least offered to only charged me for one hour of labor but nope he didn't care he just had a nonchalant attitude like it was just another day of business in his world of doing business and so I gave him his two hundred bucks and figured rather than argue with the guy I'm never going to give him business again and definitely won't forget his practice and it's not far to Auburn and so here's a review for you to help you and your decision on whether to use him or not.... and FYI I called the place in Auburn on 49 and they had a completely different attitude when I ask them what they would charge me for what I needed and in fact suggested a couple things that would save me money and at that point I explained to them what had happened in Grass Valley and they said oh that's something we've heard before... sucks I'm out 200 for something that should have cost me less and I would have also bought the $400 stereo he wanted to sell me as well but he lost my business and it only cost me $200 to learn my lesson so I guess it's a good lesson learned read more

These guys did a great job at a very fair price on a recent Bluetooth deck installation. I was hesitant at first since I bought the unit and installation kit online, and had heard that some shops will gouge you on an install of products not purchased from them, but this was not the case. I went here and they were quick with the installation of my radio and they were somewhat friendly but the price ended up being more than the quote. Not only that but a week later I got pulled over for my taillights being broken. I took it to a mechanic and was told the wires for the stereo and taillights were crossed. The fuse was also blown, when I fixed the fuse the radio started to smoke. I am now being forced to get this fixed once again. This place came highly recommended by people in town but I did not get the service I paid for read more

I took my Honda Fit there. Every time I tow it behind my RV I have to pull a GPS fuse that is nearly impossible to get to. Chris put an extension wire on the fuse so now it is easy to reach. Fast, efficient and reasonable. Highly recommend. read more

Either through miscommunication or lack of details I was quoted $175 for a job that ended up at over $230. To their credit, an acceptable compromise was reached. I really appreciated their patience and willingness to answer all of my questions without making promises they couldn't keep. That kind of honesty is hard to come by when you get a quote from most places. I am absolutely thrilled with their work as well. No wires left showing, or wire strippings left behind. I recently had a backup camera installed by them. They worked hard with me on finding the right camera to do the job. The install was done just the way I wanted and the system works really well. I felt the price was very reasonable and find them very knowledge about their business. Chris, the owner, stands behind his work and has a commitment to customer satisfaction. Honestly the worst customer service I have ever received. I am a young girl and I know for a fact they took advantage of that. I went here to get a stereo deck installed that I received for my birthday. First off, the guy who installed it was a complete Jerk and spoke to me with no respect. He also kept asking me questions that I had no idea the answer to, and that no one besides auto mechanics would know. He made things very difficult to understand. Then I waited for about 2 hours for it to be done, when he came back he said that he had tried wiring my stereo with 2 different harnesses and both had problems. So he chose the "lesser of two evils" and told me that the stereo would ONLY make a noise STRICTLY when the volume was completely off, and when I pressed the gas, not too big of a deal. However, no matter how high he volume is, even if it's blasting, the noise is still extremely loud and drowns out the music. It sounds awful and I would honestly rather have no radio at all. Worst of all, he said that if this noise bothered me to bring it back in during the week and he would fix it, considering I had already payed $100 for this installation. So, after realizing how annoying the noise was I went back in the next day and told him that I needed it fixed. I absolutely did not pay $100 to have a stereo installed that poorly. He then acted as if it was an inconvienance that I came back in and that he had never told me to come back. He was clearly annoyed, and again, very rude. I showed them the receipt and said that I needed it fixed and wouldn't pay anything more. They then told me that they didn't know exactly what was wrong and that it would take a long time to figure out, and that they charge for that "labor". But why should I pay them AGAIN because they couldn't do their job right the first time. Annoyed, I walked out and I will never go back. Lesson learned. This place is the worst since it got a new owner. So disrespectful. Save yourself the money and go elsewhere I'd say. I've heard auburn car and stereo is awesome. Much worth the drive! read more

They performed good competent work, I would recommend the shop for audio installations and fabrication.

i brought my 04 Ram into install subwoofers, pretty straightforward. i didnt know much about car audio. they ran a quote for the box, two woofers and an amp. seemed really hight but what did i know? i have stock infinty speakers installed already, the back two werent working, had that on the to do list as well. they told me 2 hrs, 5 hrs later they had it done, bargained the price down to 4rs. so i didnt have to get charged for all the unqouted labor. in the end they gave me poor advice, or had no idea what they were doing. my truck came back and the back speakers still hardly make sound and now the front speakers clip horriblly at medium volume, they till me my speakers are going and need to be replaced. that was not a problem even at extreme volume before the job. in the end, poor recommendations, not very informative at all about my options. sub par work, my torque converter lock switch came loose and passenger side power window panel came loose after their install. and now my speakers are almost worthless and no match for the subs that i gave them 1283.87 to install. Go ANYWHERE else im sure it would be better... read more
