In August 2021 Turf Exchange installed their Rincon 80 turf in our backyard. We have greatly enjoyed the grass and it gets very appreciative comments from others due to the realism of the turf and the great installation. When asked, we have always sent folks to this company as we were extremely pleased with both the organization and the product. During the recent remodel of our front yard we wanted to get the same turf installed. We asked Turf Exchange to provide a proposal for the work due to our prior experience with TE but eventually selected a different landscape contractor as the scope of services was greater than those offered by TE as well as better pricing. Our contractor provided numerous samples from his existing turf suppliers but none were preferred to the TE Rincon 80 we had in the back. I agreed to a change order to obtain Rincon 80 turf from TE. As soon as the crew was laying out the first area it was apparent something was off. The bright green color was very different from the deeper, emerald green in our backyard. Needless to say the colors are far off and nothing we would have chosen had we seen it beforehand. (You can see the cutout circle of the new turf laying on top of the old turf in our backyard on the attached photo.) As soon as the problem was noticed we stopped further work on the turf with the majority of the Rincon 80 still on the roll. I asked my contractor to get to the bottom of the issue which he attempted the following Monday and from which he sent me a video of the conversation. One of his project managers visited the TE showroom with pieces of both the old Rincon 80 and the "new" Rincon 80. When questioned, one of TE's owners, Cory explained it was simply a dye lot issue. This answer would certainly bring into question the quality control of the manufacturer TE is using if their dye variations are that far apart. Then Cory changed his tack and explained it was a new, improved turf. I am fine with a better product in terms of materials and manufacturing processes but color change is not an "improvement". It seems there should have been a name change for this newly colored turf as it is quite confusing to a prior customer. For example, when I buy a gallon of Navajo White from Dunn Edwards one year and then go back three years later, I expect their current Navajo White to be pretty much the same color. Later that day I contacted Cory to see what could be done about this issue. Having been a facilities and projects manager I am aware that errors and misunderstandings occur on every project. Usually, owners, contractors and suppliers try to resolve issues where there is not a clear, single point of responsibility. In this case I accepted some blame for making the assumption that Rincon 80 had not materially changed from the identically named product I had purchased three years earlier. The contractor had accepted some blame for not having enough on-site supervision to notice the difference in the old and new turf colors before laying the first piece. I suggested to Cory that TE had some blame for having a very different product but calling it by the same name on their website. All that said, Cory was adamant the fault lay totally with the customer and no returns, partial refunds, etc. would be given. Even when I said I would be willing to purchase the Santa Barbara 100 turf from TE (It is a much closer match to the old Rincon 80 BTW.) there was no concession offered. This was a lost sale opportunity but he reiterated I was stuck with the turf delivered. This was an unsatisfactory resolution to me, especially as a repeat customer that had been a strong supporter of Turf Exchange since 2021. Hopefully TE can make a change so others aren't mislead by the old vs. new Rincon deception. As a fellow professional I always valued my company's reputation for customers satisfaction. In this situation Turf Exchange's mishandling of the situation has changed a loyal supporter and referral source to a very dissatisfied customer and company critic. read more

My husband and I recently bought a home in Newbury Park and had been discussing installing artificial grass. We had artificial grass in our previous home and we loved the look. We called Turf Exchange (at the recommendation of friends who had their grass installed by them), and we were very impressed with the presentation Brad gave us. He took his time showing us the different styles and recommended either the Rincon 80 or 100. We decided on the Rincon 80 as the blades were two inches, versus two and a half for the 100.
