It was April and they finished after 8:30 at night, so it was dark and I had to inspect the work with a flashlight, not optimal. I said it looked good, but upon re-inspecting in day light, I was far from satisfied. Mulch was thin and bare spots all around . You could see the weed guard in several places. The black mulch was already fading, didn't even do everything quotes. i.e. use mulch glue, no plants on side of stairs and their clean-up was sub-par at best. The house wash was just terrible. I texted him to complain and was surprised to hear that he wasn't going to stand behind his work. I expected him to at least come out and look for himself. Instead, he told me how I could fix it. I hate leaving a bad review, he's a nice kid and I just wanted to give him the job to support a local business. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend him and would not hire him again.

They would blow grass clippings onto the patio carelessly and wont blow it away. They don't remove sticks or tree branches, and when they do they put them on the driveway in front of the side door. They are inconsistent about when they come and dishonest. I work from home and sometimes they say and have billed for services that I know that they didn't do. I have called but they insist they came. Aside from lawn mowing, I scheduled a spring cleaning and some extra services that were not done but I was billed for. In the fall, I paid for a fall cleanup and the leaves have been down for about a month now. I am embarrassed at how long it has taken them to come clear of leaves and when I compare the way my yard looks to the neighbor's yard it's really embarrassing. I have called several times and although for the most part they are very polite over the phone it seems I have always felt like I'm not being given correct information about dates/times they have come.

Owner Jim Hoteling in March 2023 told me that my failure to pay their bill raised "a red flag". He refused to send a revised bill and refused to restart service. Subsequently, I estimated the cost of the work that entailed blowing leaves that I myself missed as $150, sent Hillside a check for $150, and hired another landscaping company. Note that back in November I contacted Hillside that their bill was incorrect, but received no response. As I told Hillside, I am the sole caretaker of a terminally ill husband. Hillside's work was average but I wanted to keep them for the sake of continuity in my life of upheavals. I begged them to send a correct bill and restart service. I find their insulting and dishonest behavior to be sick.
