I'll continue to update this review as we move through the process. -------------------------------------------- We hired Nelson Landscaping to improve our poolside area in Edmond, aiming for something cohesive and functional. While the crews were great, the rest of the experience left us frustrated--and stuck with a space that doesn't work. We were sold on flagstone set in decomposed granite (DCG), but in reality it's totally impractical for a pool patio. The DCG is rough on bare feet and constantly washes into the pool, staining our new concrete. Worst of all, the amount of flagstone was drastically underquoted. When I pointed this out, they came back with filler pieces, which helped visually--but it's still not functional. The area is uncomfortable and not practical for furniture or barefoot traffic, which was the entire point of the project. Communication was poor. We were rarely informed when crews would show up, and a comment from the salesman ("all you women want to see what it's going to look like") when I asked for visuals was unprofessional and frustrating. A concrete crack formed within a month, which is still unaddressed a year later as no one returned my multiple calls. I even reached out to the owner whose email address is listed on the website and still only heard back from our salesman. The crews did great work--but the planning, oversight, and professionalism were severely lacking. If you're hiring Nelson Landscaping for pool area landscaping, flagstone patios, or outdoor design in Edmond, ask a lot of questions and don't rely on them to act like the experts. On Mother's Day my husband took me to the TLC on Memorial to select an orchid. I have 6 orchids in…read moremy home and know how to care of them. The orchid I chose at TLC had a couple of areas on the leaves that looked like cotton. I took it back to the information desk and the women wiped off the white area and told me it would be fine. My husband purchased the orchid for me for $60.00. Unfortunately, the white chalky substance kept coming back. I googled the information and found out it had mealybugs. I followed the directions to clean the area with alcohol. After trying to remove it for two months without success, I took the plant back to TLC today to ask for help. Paul, the manager was at the front door and told me to go to the middle of the store to talk to the woman at the information desk. She determined the mealybugs were in the potting media which is why I could not eliminate them with alcohol. She said she could repot the orchid but there would be a cost. Obviously, the potting media was infected when the orchid was purchased two months ago. I was insulted when told I would have to pay for the repotting process. I spoke with the manager, Paul, and he told me house plants do not have any type of warranty. I learned a lesson today. I will not buy house plants from TLC! The orchid WAS purchased at TLC on May 6! The above story is accurate except for the amount spent ($50 instead of $60). I had not looked up the receipt before coming by TLC yesterday. The reference number on the receipt is 32073802. The total amount spent that day was $122.70. I have 6 very healthy orchids purchased at different locations. The white pot left with the orchid must have been switched while watering. The orchid purchased from Whole Foods is healthy and doing well. Actually, over the years I have never had a problem with an orchid being affected with mealybugs except for the orchid purchased at TLC. One statement you made is correct. This is the first review I have made on YELP because I wanted to let others know that customer service is questionable at your business. I understand policy is policy on the return of houseplants. I was not upset until being told there would be a charge to repot the plant. It didn't make sense for me as the customer, to pay to correct a problem that I wasn't responsible for. It would have cost very little for your employee to offer to repot the plant for free.

Together the plant + fashionable container would look fab in your house---zero effort for the win! That easy peasey approach will cost ya. Things in here are more expensive. Although most places that do the work for you do charge a convenience fee--so no surprise there. Sometimes it's nice to pay a little more and have the plant project be done without running to several different stores (or getting your nails dirty). That's where The Plant Shoppe comes in. They do a good job of have varied price points--$10 & up. Looking for a gift...take a look here! Air plants, succulents, cacti, oh my! I do have a wish list. It includes a MUCH bigger card selection. I definitely don't want a branch to fall on my neighbor's fence or my roof, so I set out to find someone to trim my tree. When I had the tree inspected before purchasing the house, the guy that came out said he could do it for $600 once the leaves had fallen off, so I knew that it would be a little up there. I got bids from 5 people, ranging from $100 to $700. There were several reasons that I went with Urban Arborist over the cheaper guys. He didn't suggest that I top the tree which can be very bad for it, not to mention ugly. He has 2 million in liability insurance and worker's comp, he is licensed in Nichols Hills (the only place in the metro area required to have one), has an education in trees, and is a member of the International Society of Arbor Culture. The owner, Dustin Bean, was incredibly friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable. While he and his assistant were working, they both wore hardhats (safety is important!) though only Dustin got up in the tree, and he didn't use those tree grabber shoes, which can hurt it. They were at work for about 3 hours which included taking out all of the dead limbs, removing the suckers and infected branches, picking up the sticks and cleaning up the front yard out to where ever the mess had scattered on this windy day, stacked any usable firewood, and answered all of my questions. His minimum is $200, but his knowledge is definitely worth it. Afterwards, I asked him when I could next expect to need to trim the tree again, and while every tree is different, he said most Maples need it about every three years. He'll definitely be my only call the next time my tree needs trimmed.

The price is fair, and they were beyond professional during the removal! They went the extra mile to ensure that my driveway and lawn surrounding the tree weren't damaged during the process. All of the debris was cleaned up afterward, leaving no evidence of the removal aside from the ground stump. I'm very happy that we chose to use them for our tree removal, and I would definitely choose to go with them again!
