The service was beyond awful. Lets be real this place looks really ghetto except for the outdoor dining. And now the outdoor dining doesn't let you make a reservation unless you are 6 ppl. They are very understaffed so they don't bring utensils, they don't check if you have everything you need, the restroom is missing toilet paper. Total chaos. So ofc the tip wasn't going to be good. They started yelling at us when we were leaving. So crazy. The food is good. They did mess up the spicy levels and they raised their prices. Go try Bahn thai for a good restaurant! read more

I think Thai food is just okay. Maybe it's because I've had it a lot and maybe it's because it's pretty similar to the food I grew up with so I don't find it too special, but this place was such a pleasant surprise. It's hidden away and is next to a residential area so it's a little misleading at first. We came on a great breezy day (though day isn't in San Diego) and sat outside. The fact that you can select the spiciness level from 1-10 and a 5 is already quite spicy already speaks volumes. The restaurant itself is nestled in the hills of a residential neighborhood, rather discreet, with plenty of parking. Seating wasn't an issue at all on a Friday evening. We ordered the chicken satay, papaya salad, pad thai, pumpkin curry, and mango sticky rice. I've honestly never had a spicy pad thai, so this was quite interesting. Unknown parts of La Jolla The undiscovered. People of San Diego may not realize this, but there is good Asian food outside of Convoy perimeter, and this place is one of them. Not sure if driving up the highest peak in La Jolla, passing all the million dollar homes of the rich, in a hidden plaza, with a little pricier tag is justifiable for authentic Asian food but after a few bites I can vouch it's better tasting than many Thai places I've been to in San Diego. 1) Thai people cooking authentic Thai food I'll be 100 with my followers... you know it's true, Asian people have to cook Asian food to be authentic. It doesn't taste right otherwise and I cannot stress this enough. 2) Presentation to Price to Portion It's La Jolla so I'm going to expect pretty, pricey, and petite for my 3 - P's. When the food came out, the plate had a very clean (and fresh) looking presentation. Pricier than the average plate of Thai food but portions were decent for what you pay. I had left overs!!! BASIL EGGPLANT - Stir fry eggplant with onion, red and green bell peppers, garlic and chili paste. My choice of protein was pork. Flavors were on the lighter side but still flavorful, yahknow... pleasing the La Jolla crowd. The egg plant was amazing, soaked in flavor and not too mushy where it's "blobby". Not one vegetable over powered the other. The pork was average, soft but not as tender as I like. Best part, they have some "soup juice" at the bottom perfect for drizzling it on the rice. An intimate and overall nice hidden restaurant. I was initially confused when google maps said that it was in a restricted area but it's not. Just make sure you turn into the small plaza right before the gated area. Here's what we got:   Chicken satay - the chicken skewers were amazingly tender, I was throughly impressed! However, the satay was a bit on the subtle side, if the sauce had more flavor, it would have made this appetizer perfect Crispy egg rolls - stuffed with veggies. It lives up to its crispy title. It comes in a wine cup with sweet and sour sauce. Not bad! Pad see ew - You can never go wrong with pad see ew. The portions are a bit smaller than what I'm used to, but it was seasoned well and had a good balance of veggies and noodles Pineapple fried rice with tofu - my husband said it was good but not memorable. My daughter Sophie had planned to celebrate her 18th birthday with her friends. Being the first time she will have driven long distance from LA where we live (specifically Torrance), my wife and I decided we would follow her in my car while Sophie drove my wife's car. lol ! Sorry this was a big step for all of us. But Sophie drove very well and arrived in San Diego where we were all spending the weekend. Sophie and her friends would have their own suite of course and we'd let her go celebrate by themselves. Now that we were comfortable in the thought she is a safe driver, my wife and I searched for a place for dinner nearby and found Turmeric Thai. GPS took us to a beautiful gated community area and we thought we were lost or GPS was wrong since we had arrived at the gate to tue community. But my wife fortunately saw on the right side a relatively hidden small commercial area, clearly catering to the residents nearby. They sure need to work on visibility. We drove in and parked and walked over to a surprisingly beautifully designed restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for takeout instead as we wished to relax at the beautiful suite we had checked into. We ordered Pad Thai, Crying Tiger, Beef Panang, and crispy spring rolls. The Pad Thai noodles were good and chewy with the right flavor, beef panang had good amount of tender beef and the sauce was good on rice, crispy spring rolls were indeed still crispy despite having it take out, and the Crying Tiger, one of the restaurant's specialty was quite special. All in all I'd call this restaurant a hidden gem. They have done it all right from the restaurant design and decor, ambience and of course the food. The only drawback? They are a bit hard to find. The place has gone down hill since a year or so ago. I used to come here and love the food, but now the quality and taste of the food was straight up bad and the portion was less. They sat us basically in the storage room next to the kitchen. Which was extremely frustrating since I called ahead of time asking if they had any seating available in the outdoor garden area before hand and they said yes but then upon arrival 15 minutes later, they said it's closed due to rain even tho it didn't rain the whole night. I think it would've been better to just tell people that there doing take out only rather that seating them in an terrible and uncomfortable environment. I don't know how they don't feel embarrassed and ashamed sitting people here. Also they gave us no service beside the food and the bill. We should've left as soon we sat but we were too much in shock. We saw multiple people come in and immediately leave due to the situation and we were the only few people stupid enough to stay. Super duper yummy for your tummy restaurant with great service provided by our server Nghi! I would highly recommend the Panang Beef curry as the beef is super soft and tender, and the curry flavor is what you would expect. I've also tried some of the noodle and rice dishes, but really nothing can compare to the sweet joy I get when that luscious beef touches my taste buds. You have to get the Panang Beef curry here!! I've eaten here a few times and it's tucked in the most unassuming plaza near the top of Mount Soledad. I don't often go out of my way to eat here because of the location, but we got takeout from here a few days ago and it was really, really good. The portions of drunken noodles, pad Thai, and papaya salad were very generous and they actually took into consideration how spicy we wanted them. For some reason, the last few times we've gotten Thai from other places we haven't gotten any spice (maybe they were trying to protect us), so the kick was much appreciated. We only did takeout so I can't speak too much to the restaurant but upon picking up our food, we saw that they had a nice outdoor seating area that looked really nice. We got the drunken noodles with chicken and turmeric pineapple fried rice with scallops. The drunken noodles had awesome flavor! Not too salty or oily either. It was chock full of onions, peppers and mushrooms. The chicken was nice and tender too. The fried rice was great. It had a good amount of veggies and a really interesting flavor. Only downside might be the scallops. Even though they were larger in size, the flavor wasn't that great and not worth the $4 upcharge. Hidden Gem. This little place was in a tiny spot that when I got there, I wasn't even sure I was in the right place. But I found the entrance and I immediately knew I was in the right place. The patio area makes you feel like you're not even in a restaurant. It feels so calm, and spiritually relaxing. The food was really good. I was surprised at how reasonably priced everything was. I ordered a hot tea, pad see ew, and yellow curry with chicken. Staff is friendly and overly accommodating. I think this is my new favorite Thai place in La Jolla. Their pineapple fried rice is excellent! Ordered it for delivery with tofu as the protein and it arrived still warm and fresh. They have 7 different spice levels, from level 4 to level 10 (dunno why it doesn't start at 1). I ordered mine with spice level 5 and found it barely noticeable. Overall the rice had great flavor and tofu had a nice balance of crispy on the outside / soft on the inside. Would definitely order again! read more

Why thank you Yelp for helping us find yet another hidden gem! Tucked away in a small shopping complex, it's definitely not a place we would have found if not for the GPS. The setting is beautiful... with a small indoor seating and two sections of outdoor seating which are quite roomy unlike most restaurants which pack tables ( and customers) like sardines in a can! Though we stopped by for lunch on a sunny afternoon, the canopy in the outdoor courtyard provided plenty of shade. They had strings of lights up so I bet it would be gorgeous at night as well. Hubby came over with colleagues since we had bookmarked this spot and loved the food so much, that he returned with me the very next day. The menu had some of the usual thai offerings of various noodles, fried rice, entrees and house specials. We tried the drunken noodles w/chicken and beef panag curry ...both at a spice level of 8 which was perfect for us since we love things spicyyy. The drunken noodles was delicious with plenty of crunchy veggies and well cooked chicken. The beef panag curry was the highlight of our meal... with fall apart tender beef! Amazing!! Since we were planning to split both dishes, we chose to order the dinner portions and had plenty of leftovers to take home and enjoy. Will definitely be back to try more of their menu. read more

One of my favorite thai food places in San Diego and it is truly a hidden gem (but rising in popularity every day). Unfortunately, they haven't figured out a way to scale up with the increased volume of customers. My friend and I came here Friday night and had to wait nearly fourty minutes just to get our water and order taken. It seems like they prioritized people who called in their orders or ordered online. We noticed that another couple had left the restaurant after waiting a long period of time without being helped. Regardless, the employees are super friendly and doing their best - it must be really overwhelming for them. The food however is five stars all the way! authentic as can be and so packed with flavors, herbs, and different spices. The ambiance is also so warm and romantic with bistro lights and heat lamps. read more

Took a friend here for her birthday dinner. A small place tucked away near Windemere off Mt. Soledad Rd. The three of us love Thai food. Ordered crispy spring rolls, Pad See Ew with chicken, Panang Beef Curry and Asparagus with Shrimp. Everything tasted good and was cooked well. The vegetables were fresh and cooked perfectly. The beef was so tender, like butter off the short ribs bones. The one thing we noticed was that the sauces were thin and the flavors milder than what I am used to eating at Thai restaurants. I don't mean less spicey. I missed the more robust Thai curry flavor and even the Pad See Ew was less flavorful than what we are used to eating. The service was excellent--they weren't crowded, but had a good amount of customers. I imagine they do a big take out business in their location.
