Turmeric Thai is the dining spot of choice for our lab outings, so I think a review is due after eating here n 3 different occasions. I recently went and the food is still excellent! In COVID times, they offer seating outside that is pretty isolated. You order up front and can take your food to eat nearby out of to-go containers! I had the larb at a spiciness level of 6. Spicy, tangy, and super high protein - it was so delicious! I would recommend going at a spiciness level below what you think you can handle because 6 was quite spicy. The banana egg rolls were amazing as well, but I'm a sucker for fried banana anything. The ice cream on the side was just so-so - icy, cheap vanilla ice cream with sprinkles, strawberry sauce, and one chocolate wafer. unfortunately the amazing food is wasted on a horrendous service experience or lack there of. the people are nice but truly clueless and have the audacity to ask for a tip when they barely do anything but take your order and deliver it and then you have to hustle to get their attention if they even show up around the vicinity of your table. Got this for lunch today with some coworkers from doordash & it was delicious. Super fresh! We got the pot stickers, pad see-ew, beef curry, yellow curry, lettuce wraps and pad Thai noodles. Everyone loved the food! Normally people have leftovers at my job but everyone finished the food lol. I got the beef curry spice level 5 and it was flavorful!!! nice and spicy too. The beef was tender and the veggies were so good. To feed 6 of us it was around $83 which is an amazing price. I'll definitely be ordering from here again soon! read more

My friends said this place was delicious and that we needed to try it. I love Thai food and was excited to try a new spot. We got there and were sat in a very nice area outside. We ordered 4 appetizers and 4 entrees. My friend who had came said the food came out quick, and that there were less people eating than there were last time. A few other people got sat down after us, and we noticed they began to get their apps a lot quicker than our, and some of the apps were the same. We just thought it was because we ordered a lot and didn't want to seem pushy and asked. Eventually, the new customers got their entree, ate, and paid, while we still hadn't had anything. The server came up to us and we asked if our appetizers were almost done, and he said that our food would be out soon, despite us being there for an hour. We hadnt realized it was so long because our group was talking to each other a lot, but then again it isn't our job to notice that. We asked our server if out ticket got lost, and he said it never even printed but now it did so we should get the food soon. When serving other customers their meals, you should be able to notice that the large group doesn't even have their appetizers on their table, we shouldn't have to ask Where our food is. We were told we could get a mango sticky rice for the inconvenience. A member of my party asked if we could get a discount too, which we were told was fine. When it was time to pay, we were forced to choose between a free dessert or the discount, which I think is crazy to ask a customer. Turmeric Thai is our family "go-to" when we are busy with school activities, work, etc. and need a quick, delicious meal that the kids love just as much as the parents do. Whether we are able to sit down at the restaurant or order pick-up on our way home, Turmeric is the best hidden gem in the Soledad South area of La Jolla. We often will order "extra" to have leftovers for the next day as the chicken fried rice is a household favorite and easy to warm up for lunches the next day. Me and my Chinese friend were looking for a place near UCSD to have lunch. The morning we were supposed to meet, someone posted mention of Turmeric Thai Kitchen in Nextdoor, how good it is. I looked at the Yelp reviews and said "Hey, let's go here". Before you even get there, you can tell it is located in a real strange place. Residential area where you cannot imagine there are businesses. When we got there, it was just that. Couldn't find the restaurant. It was hidden in the back, beside a market, that also wasn't apparent. Both were in a small building right before the private gates of some HOA. The Thai restaurant had a small table in front of their door, where you order lunch special. I picked Green Curry, with squid as my meat, cos the server said Green Curry was the most authentic item on the menu (I want to order menu items like a REAL Thai from Thailand would order, not a Gringo who doesn't know what REAL Thai food is). My friend ordered Pad Thai. Covid lunch special does not come with soup. I was given a salad in a styrofoam cup, with peanut dressing. It was really delicious. The food had 5 star taste, but I felt the portion was really small. I wonder what the portion would be, if they did not have to be put in those small predesignated take out container sizes. My menu item was $9.95 before tax. It did have a decent amount of pieces of squid, about 4 pieces, for such a tiny duplex container. Would have never know turmeric Thai existed without Yelp. It sits up in the hills of La Jolla outside a subdivision. It is a nice little restaurant with a good amount of outdoor seating. This place is a hidden gem. After driving up a hilly, curly road you'll find this little plaza tucked away near an apartment complex. We ordered the turmeric pineapple fried rice with shrimp and the yellow curry lunch special with fish. I looooved loved loved the shrimp and fish in our dishes. The type of shrimp they used were the big juicy tender ones. They didn't skimp out on the amount either. The fish in the curry was steamed beautifully too. It was so buttery and delicately soft. The fried rice had nice chunks of pineapple, chopped tomatoes and onions and whole cashew nuts. The cashews were toasted perfectly and added just enough crunch and nuttiness to the dish. The rice was spiced and seasoned beautifully. The yellow curry had big chunks of potatoes and other vegetables. I love eating my potatoes with potato skin so I appreciated that they had the skin on (fyi if you're not a fan). The curry was rich and flavorful. The peanut dressing that came with the side salad was surprisingly good as well. Our orders came out really fast too - probably less than 10 minutes. Fast service paired with amazing food. What's not to like? Oh also I loved how they had a radio station on that had Christmas carols playing on & on. I love when businesses have high holiday spirits! My friends were searching for a Thai place in the area and decided on Tumeric Thai Kitchen. This place is in La Jolla and pretty close to Mount Soledad. We came on a Friday night and we got seated within ~10 minutes but we waited for about an hour for our food because it was pretty crowded. What we got - Pumpkin Curry (5/5): we got this one with tofu and it was pretty good. There are mushrooms, tofu, and chunks of kabocha in the pumpkin. The curry sauce was my personal favorite and went really well with the rice. This was probably my favorite dish that we had that night! -Grilled Salmon (4/5): This was pretty good. The sauce that came with the salmon was really good, but it was a really small piece for $18. - Pad See Ew (5/5): this is one of my gotos whenever I go out and get Thai food. We decided to get pork with the pad see ew and it was so good. The noodles were flat and chewy, and it wasn't super spicy either. -Fried banana with ice cream (5/5): The bananas were a bit salty but in a good way. Ambiance: 2/5 - Dirty carpet, minimal decor and edges of the seat cushions were worn out (building on the right). Food 3/5 - Chicken Wings ($7)-- hot and crispy. My husband liked it. He, especially, liked the Thai-Style Dipping Sauce. I, on the other hand, didn't care for fried food. - Green Curry w Shrimp ($11)-- not enough curry and bland. - Soup of the Day-- overly sour and on the salty side. - Drunken Noodles w Chicken ($11)-- also bland and glistened w oil. Service 5/5 Friendly and speedy. Nice gesture of giving me a bowl of soup of the day even though my dinner portion Drunken Noodles dish did not include the soup. Also, the waitress brought me hot water with lime served in a nice mug within 5 minutes after I asked for it. I normally don't post reviews but i was so taken aback by the service tonight. We just spent 80 dollars at this restaurant for 2 people and while the food was good, I have never in my life been charged for to go containers. It's not the price of 1.25 for the to go boxes it's more the fact that we dined in and they still charged for to go boxes. They also refuse to turn on the outdoor heaters making tables share one heater when they have plenty. So be ready to freeze because they don't have much space indoors. I've never seen a restaurant nickel and dime so much. read more

I ordered the pad see ew and the red curry. Both were great. The pad see ew was perfectly seasoned, and all of the textures were good. The broccoli was crunchy, the beef wasn't overcooked, and the noodles were chewy. The red curry had plenty of vegetables and meat. The seasoning was perfectly savory, salty, and sweet. A fantastic Thai restaurant in an unassuming place! If you're met with a gated community, you've gone too far since the parking lot is to the right, just right before it. They are knowledgeable about gluten allergies and offered to make my friend's pad see ew gluten free! I did a takeout order of chicken wings, yum salad, tom kha soup, and pad se ew. The only highlight of this meal were the wings. They were crispy and flavorful, especially with the two sauces. The other three dishes lacked flavor. You couldn't taste the basic sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavors that's found in Thai cuisine. What a surprise to find this restaurant tucked away in a residential area. The night we arrived it was chilly so we ate inside but next time we will definitely enjoy the patio area. We ordered too much as we were staying at a hotel and I wanted a snack for later. Definitely order the drunken noodles. They served our spring rolls standing up in a glass with the sauce in the bottom. My friend is the appetizer queen so we sampled the dumplings, and fried tofu also. One of the most authentic Thai food establishments in San Diego. There's a cute patio area in the back with fairy lights at night. They have outdoor heaters for those cold nights. Papaya Salad with 8/10 spice: First impression- generous portion of papaya salad. The salad is dressed with a sauce that is perfectly balanced with sweetness, sourness, umami. Papaya, green beans, tomatoes, and lettuce - all so good. It pairs perfectly with the other more rich/heavy dishes. Level 8 spice is no joke - you'll be breathing fire- but its a nice kick if you can handle spice. For less of a challenge/to enjoy more, I will get 6/7 next time to Chicken Wings: Love the crispiness! It's seasoned well too- even towards the center of the wings they were not plain. The breading is not overly thick yet so crunchy. The wings come out freshly fried - piping hot. Its paired with two sauces: a tumeric sauce and sweet and sour. I personally prefer the sweet and sour but the tumeric one is good too. Drunken Noodles with beef and 7/10 spice: Love the sauce of the drunken noodles. They are cooked to perfection. Beef was good but a bit tougher. Level 7 spice was perfect- I was able to thoroughly enjoy it! Mango Sticky Rice: Was not expected to get dessert but everything was so good we just had to. One of the best mango sticky rice that I have had. Ataulfo mangos with a perfect sticky rice (flavored with some pandan(?)), topped with crispy mung beans, and generously sauced with coconut. Absolutely perfection. Was plesantly surprised to find this rather hole in the wall. Logistically, this restaurant is located in the corner of a plaza that itself is difficult to find. You must be looking for it to see it especially at night in this area. I thought googlemaps gave me the wrong directions when it prompted me to turn into what looked like a residential community. This plaza is right before the residential community gates - yes- turn right into that little plaza to find your delicious Thai food treasures. read more

I've been here a few times and it is a solid Thai place. The spice level is reasonable and not heavy handed. I got the drunken noodle with pork at a level 6. We got the tofu spring roll as an appetizer, which was light and refreshing. The restaurant is in two buildings, with an outdoor section in between them. When you approach Turmeric, the host is in the right building. Depending on the situation, you may be seated in that room, or the building in the left, unless you ask for the patio area, which is covered. My friend was disappointed that there wasn't mock duck, like her usual Thai place but I am not complaining, since I enjoy meat. They also have a veggie option in addition to tofu. I don't believe that there is alcohol, but I don't drink often and was content with my Thai ice tea. read more

These restaurant operators know what they are doing. They have inside and outside seating with heat lamps. You can bring your own alcohol I saw some people did. Fine place for a date, dining alone, dress up, after the beach, or take-out. It is one of those rare places that has different atmospheres in one restaurant and everyone will feel comfortable. Why no 5 star then David if you through it was so great? Bathrooms: It's a shame that a restaurant that has so much going for it cannot have better bathrooms. Contact the Landlord and see if something can be worked out to fix up the restrooms. If you plan on staying for a while, then chip in a few bucks and make it nice. Portions: Portions are more like "female" sized. Men eat more and need a larger dinner portion. Your food is great, why not increase the portions 20% and show it off? Ladies can take leftovers home. Compared to other Thai restaurants for the same dish dinner portions are 20% less. read more

After reading many good reviews, decided to give this place a try. Are we eating from the same restaurant is my thought during and after eating my meal. Every dish had a very pungent smell. We ordered chicken lettuce wrap but it was served with pork drenched in soy sauce. Lettuce was so small that it's not enough to wrap anything. Pad thai and pad see yew were soggy and drenched in sauce. On top of that the beef tasted dry, firm and cheap. Part of me question they gave us pork and charged for beef. This is a neat little place that you'd be hard pressed to find if you don't already know about it or live in the apartment complex that it is nestled into. The food is really good but, as you'd expect from La Jolla, it is a bit overpriced. Some items are cheap but you can still rack up a $80 bill pretty quickly. I don't have a particular high spice tolerance, but medium heat was good for me. There are a lot of options that anyone is sure to love. They are still really overboard with COVID precautions though which was a little annoying.
