There are water fountains, waste disposal, and lots of seating, but there are not picnic tables or public restrooms. It's a beautiful park and I always make it a stop on my walks!

We weren't exactly sure where we were to meet in the park, not being from the area so we naively thought we'd park and walk to avoid the traffic and the admission. Upon walking in we realized quickly how difficult that would be. This park is massive at almost 800 acres and has sooo much. It includes (but probably isn't limited to) - a baseball field, dog park, grills for picnics and bbqing, streams, historic houses, nature, biking, playgrounds and more. There are even hiking trails and paddle boats, though I didn't see them. The price to enter the park is $3 and $5 for out of state but because we were attending a memorial the lady was nice only charged us the $3. You could easily spend all day here on a nice day. The one thing about this park that was a problem is getting in. The front entrance line backs up quickly and it spills out into the street. The street is like 4 lanes with steady traffic, so if you're coming from the other direction making a left over the 2 lanes it gets a bit crazy. I'd think a traffic person or park personnel would help guide the traffic a bit. A better question is why isn't the back gate open? That might lessen the traffic. Beyond that though, it's nice big park with just about everything it seems, and for an OK deal.

It was renovated with MGM money when they rebuilt a chunk of downtown for their magnificent casino/hotel/shopping/movie theater complex. We visited the park yesterday on the walk back from lunch at the Red Rose. We saw a wrought iron gate that leads to a beautifully manicured spot of lighted walkways, green grass, pretty yellow and purple flowers, and a circular red stone base supporting a large abstract sculpture. The 2022 sculpture is titled "Dream Catcher" and was constructed of a painted oak tree and stainless steel rods and spheres. It's quite striking! The park is a welcome urban oasis and likely a favorite spot to sulk and self reflect after blowing a load of cash at the casino.

Right on a main road through east longmeadow, close to shopping, restaurants, and the library. They've got a baseball field, plenty of space to run, a large covered picnic site for events, and other picnic tables scattered around the park. They are, however, best known for their beautiful geese who reside there. Now you're not supposed to feed them bread, but who listens to that? The geese come right up to you (if you're feeding them) but be careful- some may nip if you put your hand in too far! The playground is fairly new and one of the best ones around. They've got swings, a rock wall, and a bunch of other structures. The kids never fail to have a great time. There's a super cute gazebo there and even a pretty clean portapotty. I definitely highly recommend this park! Also, there's plenty of parking.

Blue heron right after you enter from the south terminus. Lots of turtles basking. Eagles (adult and 2 juvies) visible in their nest, with another adult high above about 50 yds north. Another uge (we don't pronounce the "h" where I'm from) blue heron about 7/10ths of a mile from the start. Ducks, geese, hawk. Haven't seen a rabbit yet this year. My theory is that overcutting on the bank of the canal-side has caused rabbits to change their habits (seriously). No place to hide from predators. Everyone friendly...strollers, fishermen, bicyclists.... I tried to make a video of the song, "I was strolling thru the park one day, in the very merry month of May...". Lucky for the reader / listener that my phone was having memory issues. Always a 5 star!

The east entrance is very roomy, easily park 10 cars there with walking path 12 feet wide. However, it's very far to the river, at least half a mile walk. The 4th entrance is on Bayleys, I couldn't even find the parking lot, lol, nothing there.

As far as beach goes, I wouldn't advise swimming in it because of a huge sewage leak back in the 1990s. It is a beautiful spot to walk, picnic, and just enjoy the vista. There's no reason for this, as there's a substantial amount of trash cans. This is a nice place to go on a boat ride down the Connecticut River, and to try to catch some fish. The Wethersfield Cove is a beautiful place to rest your mind and your eyes.

The fire tower was out of commission for years but has happily been restored, and interpretive signs at the top show each visible peak including, Mt. Tom and Mt. Monadnock among them, on clear enough days. The only facilities are a port-o-let at the bottom of Soapstone Road, so plan accordingly if you don't want to make the ten minute trip back down to Ellington.

Since all of these trails are fairly accessible, you can meet just about anybody out there. I'd recommend a personal alarm or hiking with a buddy (which, as a woman, is unfortunately just good practice, anyway).

Definitely a great long but easy hike.

From the parking lot to the gorge is a a short walk; the trail continues along side the river with many small falls and pools available for swimming. There many large and smaller boulders which extend out into the water providing picnicking or sunbathing opportunities. The trail in spots can be challenging; you should exercise caution as you can easily slip if you are not paying close attention. It is a beautiful area well worth a stop to take in the natural sights afforded by this scenic natural wonder.
