I stopped by today to kill time and have some breakfast while waiting on some local businesses to open. I decided to keep it simple and get the ham and cheese omelet. They exceeded my expectations. The toast was fresh and well buttered, the hash browns cooked to just a little bit of a crunch, and the omelette was packed full of flavor and ham. There's not many places you can get a full meal for less than $10. I may have to make this a more frequent stop.

On our first visit, it took a while to be greeted and it took forever to receive our food. I think we were there for two hours altogether on our first trip and we did not think that we would be returning. Fast-forward a few months and we came here because it was one of the few places open that had down home cooking, which we were wanting. I'm so glad we came again because it was such a great experience and we've gone again a handful of times since. I've had a few things here, but my favorites are their burgers, hand cut fries, the fried zucchini, and the lemon meringue pie. All of them are delicious. They also make a mean club sandwich, although sometimes they forget to cut it in quarters and just cut it in half. Not a big deal, but I personally prefer mine in quarters. The staff are friendly for the most part. There is one lady who I assume is the manager, who is almost always being rude to someone, whether it be her own staff or the customers. She always has something grouchy and negative to say, or she's belittling her staff in front of everyone. I personally would hate to work for someone like that. Hopefully she will have some joy in her life so she can turn things around. We can always tell when we get her on the phone for our call-in orders because she is the only one who is grumpy about having to type in the fact that we want to make a substitution for a burger topping. It's kind of sad that she stands out in this way, but that does not make it any less true. Anyway, the tables could use a bit of cleaning, especially the ones nearest the wall where there is dirt and dust. Aside from that, I really have no complaints about Rosie Jo's. It is one of our favorite places to eat in Ozark and we will definitely be back.

The place was not only beautiful but also comfortable. The staff were extremely polite and professional. I ordered the crispy catfish, which was cooked to perfection but lacked seasoning. I waited for a very long time for my mango tea which was strange that a drink took that long. It was fruity and refreshing just took awhile to get to me. Our food was all very good. That arrived much quicker than the drink. Spinach dip was excellent. Fried green tomatoes weren't as hot as they could have been but still good. I just got Mac and cheese and a Caesar salad. Mac and cheese was mediocre. Caesar salad was excellent. Loved the baked Parmesan crunchies in it. The other dishes our party got were pretty good. Nothing was super hot which was a little disappointing. Dessert was a crostini with homemade Carmel ice cream and that was amazingly good!

Apple Maps told us we had arrived just shy of the restaurant, which is up the hill a bit further. Just keep going. Many of us have heard of Hootentown through the years, and a few lucky ones have actually been to a music festival or put in for a float trip there. This relatively new diner is a real gem! It is run by a mother/daughter duo with the mama manning the kitchen with her extraordinary homemade, from-scratch comfort food! However, I was on a health kick today so I ordered the Taco Salad. Yeah, I know, so I didn't eat the lightly deep fried, crispy shell to my chagrin! Seasoning on everything is superb. She's not afraid to wake up your tastebuds & not just with the one-note spicy heat that masks as complex flavor. My mother thoroughly enjoyed her Philly cheesesteak chicken sandwich on a hoagie roll. She also went for the potato Fripps which (we had never heard of them) are spiral cut whole potatoes that are lightly deep fried into beautiful flowering shapes. We DO eat with our eyes after-all. Well done. So cool. Now, you must order one of theIr desserts at minimum and make sure it comes with their homemade whipped cream! Even if you're stuffed you'll have to take a couple bites. It's whipped & stabilized so well that it looks like homemade ice cream but, WOWZA, it ain't! When you devour it, you will want to kiss your grandmother, your great-grandmother, and the many mothers before that! Isn't it wonderful, every once in a while, to wax & wane nostalgic?!?! They even make their own rock candy from scratch which they thoughtfully provide with your bill. What is more country crafty than that? Bags of it are for sale @ each table. Make sure to look around at the collections on the walls. The daughter is fun to answer any questions you might have about the food, the dwelling, the kitsch, the river, and the politics in general. We even bought a dozen farm fresh eggs from her as we were walking out the door for, wait for it, one buck. Take a trip through the Ozark Hills, into the woods, and down to the James River. This place is an undiscovered gem! And, a HOOT(entown)!!!

I usually don't leave reviews without eating the food, but I just couldn't get past everything that went wrong before that. 1. They were out of just about everything "which can be good sometimes." But this was in a bad way. Like they just didn't order anything. The guy who took our order was extremely nice, but he kept his cooking gloves on the whole time he took our order, and handled our money. Then another guy came out of the back in a tank top that was completely stained and looked filthy. In fact the entire place looked dingy and disgusting. The soda was completely out at the machine, and the carpet in front of the machine was so sticky it pulled off my wife's shoe!!! We asked for a refund because we just weren't feeling it, and the guy gave us a refund and was extremely apologetic... I gave them two stars because we didn't eat there otherwise they would have gotten a zero strictly for their lack of cleanliness and lack of supplies. They really need to be on the ball since another soul food place opened not far from them and is way better.
