The Soulfood Taco! Fried catfish, collard greens, and Mac-n-Cheese topped with Louisiana hot sauce, IN THE TACO!
    Jeremy J.

If you are a first timer, you are greeted with a hug. Very warm atmosphere, kind of like you are at home. I most definitely recommend this place for a good stop for lunch. I also had the deep feed rabbit and cornbread. OMG WAS THAT NOT GOOD. The rabbit had no game-y taste and the cornbread melts in your mouth. If we are ever this way again, most definitely stopping in at Mama G's here in Springfield, MO!

Had one of the best breakfast here. The shrimp and grits rival my favorite from New Orleans. Everything we ordered was amazing. The staff is super friendly.

Meatloaf, cheesy potatoes, spicy cabbage and cornbread.

Made our first visit to Mama Gs and had a great time. The meatloaf is spectacular and the spicy cabbage is amazing. Micah was great and entertained us during our stay. Cant wait to go back again.

    Cute

A slow Thursday; not busy as we got there around 4p. We got seated quickly and our server was professional. The breading seasoning tasted the like for the fish chips (mine) and JS's (fried pork chops). Liked the seasoning but the fish and chops themselves were just okay. The place was bigger than we thought when checked online for rec.

We only had dessert. It was priced reasonably but didn't seem homemade. Maybe we caught them on an off day.

And that's saying something as I would never purposefully choose an edge piece. On top of that I was surprised to find that spaghetti comes as a side! It reminded me of cafeteria spaghetti, but not the bad kind you groan about when you see it on the menu, the kind that has you running to the cafeteria to beat everyone else. The spicy cabbage is just that, SPICY. I was only able to eat a few bites, but even under all that spice the flavor was excellent. The catfish strips were hot and tender. They even threw in an extra or two. Now the server, he was amazing. He greeted us promptly and went above and beyond. I have not had such a positive experience with a server at any restaurant I've been to in a long time. I didn't catch his name, but he was brilliant. The restaurant was clean, food was fresh, and plenty of seating. I'm very excited to visit here again! We've been here twice, once dining in and once as an order ahead take-out. Both times we have been incredibly impressed by the atmosphere, service, and food. They have the best classic southern soul food we've had the pleasure of enjoying in the area. Their menu is huge with a wide variety such as chicken livers, rabbit, catfish, and classic Southern entrees. We were impressed with the long list of side options such as the spicy cabbage and spaghetti. Their cornbread is incredible, you've got to try it.

And the music..low, warm Motown drifting out the door like an invitation you'd be a fool to refuse. That's how you find Mama G's. Parking was a minor hassle. Worth it. Inside, the soul of the place hits you immediately. Family portraits line the walls:real people, real smiles, real history. The woman at the counter greets you not like a customer, but like a nephew who's finally come home for the holiday. That's not trained hospitality. That's heritage. We waited fifteen minutes. Got seated by the bathroom with a view of the road. Not ideal. But you know what? I didn't care. Because the smell coming out of that kitchen was already forgiving every small inconvenience. The menu reads like a dare. Everything "spiced correctly," they boast. No timidity here. So I went big. The Stuffed Turkey Leg: a smoked behemoth of a thing, piled high with greens, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, all crowned with cornbread crumbs. Thanksgiving on a plate. A chaotic, glorious, soulful mess. The collard greens hit first. Earthy, slow-cooked, righteous. Then the mac and cheese, creamy and clinging to the turkey meat like it belonged there. The yams? Sweet, soft, perfect punctuation. And the spices??; they danced. Bold but not brutal. I could handle it. My four-year-old, however, disagreed. The mac was "too spicy" for her young tongue. Fair criticism. Take the kid to a park next time. This food is for grown-ups! My fiancée went with the Fried Wings. Hand-breaded, Mama G's own seasoning, fresh from the fryer. The kind of fry that crackles when you bite in..extra crispy on the outside, impossibly tender within. She needed dipping sauce to cool the heat. She didn't complain once. In a city full of bland, safe restaurant food, she was grateful for something that actually tasted alive. The staff? Warm. Genuine. Our waitress heard our compliments and brought us a free side of spicy cabbage just to show off what else the kitchen could do. That's confidence. That's family. Mama G's is not a restaurant. It's a relative's house where you happen to pay at the end. It's a taste of the South, a taste of something real, a taste of lovely.

Pro tip: please check their facebook page for updated hours, contact information, and menu of the day. I stopped by to place a carry out order. The team was so welcoming and friendly. That perfect sincere hospitality you don't see too much anymore. The space is absolutely adorable and comfortable. When my order was ready, I was handed a bag that easily weighed five pounds! I went with the blackberry fried chicken. This is like nothing I've ever had. The chicken was super crispy like Korean fried chicken and just covered in a sweet sticky blackberry sauce. The chicken was well seasoned and juicy. Every single bite was perfect. I went with the macaroni and cheese and greens for my sides. Both came served in generous portions of deliciousness. The greens might be a little spicy if you don't like heat. My order came with two cornbread muffins. The meal was a very generous and a filling one. I also picked a slice of peach cobbler cheesecake from the dessert case. While tasty, I would have preferred one or the other. Both cheesecake and cobbler in one dessert was just a little too much for me. But delicious nonetheless. I can see why this spot comes with such great accolades for food service and hospitality.

Not only was the food amazing, but the service was also impeccable. The waitress was so nice, and she gave us history on the restaurant and her family. There were pictures of her family on the walls, and they even had a tree branch with wooden portraits of family members (family tree). It was so cool!! The food was so good!! We had the chicken wings, greens, mac and cheese, yams, and catfish. The portion sizes were huge, so we had food to go. A person in our party had the red beans and rice and fried corn and she said the red beans and rice was some of the best she has ever had, and the sauce on the fried corn was good. The cook's husband came out and talked to us at the end of our meal and gave us some background on how he was also in the military, retired and is now working at the restaurant with his wife along with his government job. Everybody was just so nice and welcoming, and it definitely was a great experience. The prices for the food was very affordable considering the portion sizes. We have to go back in January for her next graduation. We will definitely be going back to eat there. I can taste it already!!

I stopped by today to kill time and have some breakfast while waiting on some local businesses to open. I decided to keep it simple and get the ham and cheese omelet. They exceeded my expectations. On our first visit, it took a while to be greeted and it took forever to receive our food. I think we were there for two hours altogether on our first trip and we did not think that we would be returning. Fast-forward a few months and we came here because it was one of the few places open that had down home cooking, which we were wanting. I'm so glad we came again because it was such a great experience and we've gone again a handful of times since. I've had a few things here, but my favorites are their burgers, hand cut fries, the fried zucchini, and the lemon meringue pie. All of them are delicious. They also make a mean club sandwich, although sometimes they forget to cut it in quarters and just cut it in half. Not a big deal, but I personally prefer mine in quarters. The staff are friendly for the most part. There is one lady who I assume is the manager, who is almost always being rude to someone, whether it be her own staff or the customers. She always has something grouchy and negative to say, or she's belittling her staff in front of everyone. I personally would hate to work for someone like that. Hopefully she will have some joy in her life so she can turn things around. We can always tell when we get her on the phone for our call-in orders because she is the only one who is grumpy about having to type in the fact that we want to make a substitution for a burger topping. It's kind of sad that she stands out in this way, but that does not make it any less true. Anyway, the tables could use a bit of cleaning, especially the ones nearest the wall where there is dirt and dust. Aside from that, I really have no complaints about Rosie Jo's. It is one of our favorite places to eat in Ozark and we will definitely be back.

I will not drag the competition, but Dublin's Pass was the clear winner. I won't use specifics, but you get so much more bang for your buck, purely from a financial aspect. Let me first say, the eggs arrive on a plate with a light breading that adds the perfect balance of crunch yet balanced with the soft egg. All brought to you with a mustard that is the perfect combination of pickled veg and punchy mustard. The meat was cooked perfectly. The combination between the meat, egg and mustard marry one another beautifully to lend to a flavor roller coaster in your mouth. What really sets these Scotch eggs apart is the attention to detail. They taste like they are meant for a flavor rollercoaster. Each element feels intentional. Whether you're a longtime Scotch egg lover or trying one for the first time, this restaurant sets the bar high. Simply put: these are the Scotch eggs other places should be aspiring. Eggs aside, we also had an order of the boneless wings. Not a hard thing to get right, but we had roasted garlic parmesan with garlic aioli, to die for. I am from out of town, and this place is absolutely a must. It will never not be on to do list.
