The blankets are SO warm, and on a chilly winter night, it's the perfect way to get cozy and warm. The decor of the room and bathroom was incredible! If we were staying the weekend, I would have treated myself to nice mineral bath in the gorgeous clawfoot tub. The original wood floors in the bathroom and throughout the house are exquisite. BREAKFAST. Oh. My. Heavenly. Goodness. To say Brenda is multi-talented is an understatement. One of her many talents is being a wizard in the kitchen. Her local bacon (seasoned two ways), homemade granola with yogurt and berries, stuffed French toast bake, and hand-crafted spread are THE way to start your morning. I feel spoiled after one day. And sitting around the table with guests and neighbors will make you feel like a local. Then there's the brewery!! Turning Waters Back Alley Brewery / Hoppy Girl Brewing.... We are so excited to have them in town! We've been to about 113 breweries around the state and country, and this one easily makes the top 10, if not higher. Ford's beers are exceptional! The Mango Milkshake IPA, Salted Caramel Russian Imperial Stout, Triple Black IPA, and Bourbon Barrel Aged Belgian Dark Beer were all 5 out of 5 stars. I'd drink those until they run out and never get sick of them. The hospitality they show out there is outstanding. The awesome snacks, delicious pizzas (don't miss this!), games, and variety of craft beers on tap will make you never want to leave. There is a dorm size refrigerator, no other appliances. There was a flat screen tv although it was a shame to take it away from its mother. They should have thrown it back and let it grow a little more. Don't turn on the bathroom light in the middle of the night, the candlepower puts Times Square to shame. The floor is concrete but finished with the most interesting faux marbling I've ever seen. The rate is reasonable but I would not say cheap. Cash speaks loudly here. The shower in my room was an adventure, I can't speak for the other rooms but the water was hot and plentiful. I found the largest bar of soap I've found in any hotel but be sure you have your own shampoo and such. There is no hair dryer, either. No continental breakfast included but there is a wide variety of food choices downtown, just a short drive south of the motel and good Karuba coffee at Kwik Trip. No staffing the office; there is a phone number posted on the door. Nice view of the river and I'd guess there are about 20 BNSF freight trains every hour. After the first couple of 'em, you won't even notice. And yes, I would stay here again if I found myself in the area.

Laura, I believe it was the owner of this motel was the rudest most unprofessional innkeeper i have ever encountered! In the 2 nights my group and I stayed there (keep in mind we have stayed there for years on our annual fishing trip we do twice a year) had an attitude about everything. What pushed me over the edge was the 3 times she entered my room in the early am while i was sleeping to wake me repeatedly to ask me in a very rude and aggressive manor if my friends and I were going to stay another night. Then proceeded to tell me that she needed to know now because she did not plan on cleaning our rooms if we planned on staying another night. Im sorry but since when did it become optional to upkeep my paid room on a daily basis let alone enter my room uninvited while im sleeping? Completely unacceptable!!! To top off this "great service" she had also charged my card $40 to cancel a room that i never agreed to reserve. All of the twin sized beds they have are extremely soft. (not in a good way) My back and neck were tensed all day after sleeping in these beds. One television in 4 rooms actually worked. If you exceed 5' 8" or weigh over 160 pounds good luck getting in the bathroom because you probably wont fit. Hillcrest is conveniently located about 2 miles from the shuttle for The Great Alma Fishing Float. The only half decent thing this place had to offer was the community kitchen. It was a nice looking full kitchen and dining area. For you fishermen a nice fish cleaning area. That was located across the parking lot. Never have i encountered so much ignorance from an individual though. My opinion to you is find a different place to stay if you'd like a good night sleep, don't want to be rushed, disrespected, or ripped off!!!

Although removed enough from the main highway, many Yelpers complain of all night train noise. The tracks along Hwy 61 are among the busiest in the state. There is a large parking lot and no charge to enter the park. I'm not a tree-hugger nor a fan of tearing them all down. This park has a wide area of close cut grass with no foliage what so ever in the main area. What purpose does crew cut grass serve when there is not a shade tree in site?

Initially we were heading to Welch Village to go tubing down the cannon river, but decided not to follow the bus load into the entrance. Found this place. Great little beach area on Lake Pepin. Favorable restrooms and changing area. Little carts available to use to bring all the beach gear. Comes in handy for all the people who decide to colonize on their own little piece of the beach. Very clean picnic areas, people are friendly and there is a free air pump to blow up all the inflatable water toys. As nice as it is up north, it's nice down south too.

If I could give a suggestion for improvement it would be this, a private bathroom for handicap patrons. My parents had to leave early due to an issue and a private bathroom with wheelchair accessibility would have been helpful for a caregiver and her spouse. Then they wouldn't have missed their granddaughters first dance. I can only hope I attend another wedding here in the future.

Our interaction with the staff/owners was minimal, but that's because we really didn't need anything. The check-in was very smooth, and the staff/ owners were friendly and cheerful. We found the bed to be quite comfortable, and the room was immaculately clean. Immaculately. There is definitely some pride of ownership exhibited in this level of attention to detail, and it didn't go unappreciated! My only suggestion -and admittedly, this is a VERY minor issue- deals with the aesthetics: As we drove in the lawn was kind of bare in patches, with lots of dandelions and weeds. We had a brief moment where we wondered if we hadn't made a mistake in reserving our stay there. Again, the lawn condition had absolutely no bearing on how much we enjoyed our stay, but it was a first impression. And that opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it!
