I'll be totally honest, hubs and I were looking for a place to eat in Fort Madison. We almost gave up when we saw the marina and a couple of folks on a patio. Could it be a restaurant? Why yes, Virginia, it was. As we walked up to the door, it said closed Monday... Uh oh. I tried the door and it opened. Boy, are we glad it did! What a beautiful restaurant. Huge inside dining, bar, even a large room for events.... But the piece de resistance is the patio. We had gorgeous weather, a great view of the marina, bridge and right on the Mississippi River edge. We shared the Buffalo chicken wrap with onion rings. It was good, nothing special. Hinterland ice cream with caramel drizzle for desert. I'd go back in a heart beat just for the patio! read more

FANTASTIC. What a great spot on the river! Food and drinks menus are great offering a variety of things! Building is beautiful and decor is a fun, but classy vibe. Small shopping area with fun boating themed items. Food is great, drinks are too! Everything is very nicely kept. The patio area is incredible. We drove up to FM from St Louis, decided to try this place. I saw it on Facebook. We had a pork tenderloin, which was very good, pastrami sandwich, sweet potato fries.. The fries were cinnamon dusted, and the dip was sweet, nice surprise! We ordered at the counter, and the server brought us our orders, and cleared the table. The sodas and tea are self serve. The restaurant overlooks the Mississippi, so that's a huge bonus for me! The decor is very nice, not fancy, but tasteful. We ate inside because the wind was pretty strong. There is outdoor seating. This restaurant probably has one of the best patios/views in southeast Iowa - right up against the Mississippi River! I can only wonder how it would hold up in the event of a flood though... At any rate, the food was delicious and delivered in a timely manner. They have a good amount of seafood options, but I was hoping for a little more vegetarian fare. There are still a few options though. It's a great spot for a nice lunch or date night. I recommend it. read more

FANTASTIC place. They were able to accomodate a group of 10 with special needs with no problem - just make the reservation before hand. The food selection is diverse and can likely accommodate any dietary restrictions. Am anxious to tryout the other menu options next time - and there definitely will be a next time! There are few quality places in Fort Madison to get a quality meal; this place is tops for casual dining. They have live music on weekends, Very enjoyable. The view of the Mississippi river is incredible. They do have outdoor seating for warm weather times. The indoor accommodations are vast with plenty of elbow room. If you travel to the FM area often like we do, this place is a must stop. It will definitely be on the top of my list for when we are in town. Whenever I visit from San Diego I always have lunch at Turnwater. The view is beautiful and I love their smash burgers and drinks. I've also been there in the evening when they have live music and the crowd is hopping. Great addition to Fr Madison! Service is always good! read more

What a delightful find. We were in town for a wedding and I wasn't expecting to find much for lunch. Boy was I surprised to find this little gem. Its a bit of a work-aroun't meaning you order and then go sit down and food is brought to you. Really nice ambiance and the restaurant was well appointed. Our server was really good and made sure we were happy with the food delivered. We sat inside at a table overlooking the river. I was excited to order the PBJ burger. To my surprise it was a double patty and the burger was cooked just right and had a really good flavor. The Peanutbutter was melty (just the way I like it), the bacon was plentiful and crispy, and the jalapeño Peach jam offered just the right amount of sweetness. The first bite was amazing with the peanutbutter drinking about and the crunch of the bacon and just a little sweet heat from the jam. Loved it..Fries were okay. Great place. read more

The Turn Around and Go Somewhere Else Bar and Grill... I really wanted to like this place. I went to eat there by myself about a week ago. I got the burger. Good ingredients, but absolutely bland. For the price, you're better off going somewhere else. I took my parents there the following week, because I thought "surely with everyone talking about how great it is, maybe I just had a meh experience". I ordered tacos. I got the carne asada and pork belly. I've lived in California for years, so I know a good taco. Unfortunately what I got was mediocre meat, bland food, and sugar-loaded salsa. To the owner: Throw away your salsa recipe. No one wants to suck on a sugar cube while they are trying to eat salsa. If you're desperate to give people diabetes, at least offer an alternative. I spent about 15-20 minutes wandering around the place trying to ask different people about the salsa. I got told "I'm the only one that is working X spot, so I can't help you. I don't know." I replied with "Can you tell me who I CAN talk to about this?" The response was "Anyone else" I ended up waiting in the food ordering line and was told "no, that's the only salsa we have". My eyes definitely narrowed because the tacos specifically say salsa roja... *shrug* We also got alcohol while we were there. The bloody mary was so thick, it couldn't be drank. I got an old fashioned, and it was... Something. The sad thing is that I spent over 100 dollars feeding my Mother and her boyfriend, and myself and I left hungry. Love this place, great vibes, perfect place for boaters to dock, stay overnight with the huge courtesy docks. Food and drink are excellent. I like the shrimp wrap, wings, best ever fried cheese curds. Service is great and they are open late. What's not to love? I have been there twice. The pizza was good. Onion rings were fantastic. I didn't care for the Smashburger because the hamburger was little on the dry side and I really didn't care for the salsa with the chips. If I was going to order that again, I'd bring my own salsa. A must visit in Fort Madison! It's a gorgeous, new building, and the staff members were friendly and helpful. It's family friendly but also would be a nice place to hang out with friends. After being extremely disappointed with a bar down the street, we tried this one and do glad we did. Fantastic location, easy and ample parking, lots of energy when you walk in, live music on a summer night....perfection! Drinks tasted as we wanted/expected and service was timely and seemed genuine. Drove over 2 hours & sincerely wanted to give a new establishment a chance to make it. The menu was nothing exceptional but the service is scatter shot. You should either allow everyone to order off the board then give them a buzzer/pager to pick up their food or abandon self order and have sit down. Having wait staff run all over like they're on a scavenger hunt trying to find the party with the matching number is insane. And not their fault when they can't especially with indoor & outdoor seating. People are ordering, then expecting sit down service when it's not offered. Mixed signals. Place is gorgeous. Alot of $ went into building it, that's obvious. River view is very nice. But get some much needed help on your food prep & service area of the business. When I ordered a barbecue sandwich, I thought I was getting pulled pork and I even asked the waitress if it was pulled pork, she said yes it wasn't. It was a Smashburger that had barbecue sauce on it with bacon in the description on the menu wasn't very good. my head husband ordered the pastrami sandwich. He thought it was pretty good, but the crout aïoli was very strong. The french fries were crinkle cut, but they were only 2 inches long.
