No reservations required, first come first serve but every time we have come we never had a problem finding a spot even on a holiday weekend like labor day. We played in the lake with our dog Daisy, she absolutely loves swimming for toys and the water amazing! It was cold but not freezing, we want to bring our paddle boards next time. We park at mountain view overlook, be sure to pay the fee to park or you will get a ticket! We love coming here, the views are amazing and it's never too crowded. Highly recommend stopping by or camping here.

You will have to cross the river which has no bridge. Either take off your shoes or skillfully traverse the river by rock hopping across. If you have poles you stand a better chance of not falling off the stepping stones. After the falls you can drive all the way up to the dam and park there. Mountain goats do walk about there to lick the dust off cars or lick the roads there for salt which was left over from the salting of the roads during winter. If you are lucky you will be able to see them up close. Apparently they are there frequently. The views are spectacular in this glacial valley.

Fantastic hike to the lake: Roughly 2.8 miles with about 2000 feet of elevation gain. Lovely vistas and streams the whole way. Wildflowers abound aplenty all along the trail if you hit it right. Great campsites ( please pack out everything and no wood fires). Great hike to Electric Pass with slight exposure. Dogs are allowed on the trail. Amazing views of cathedral peak and other mountains. At the lake there were backpackers that camped out over night to hike cathedral peak. Definitely a climb only for experienced people especially with all the snow. The parking lot is small and up a dirt road that low clearance cars can reach. The path is hard to find in the snow at the top but we just followed footprints and the sound of the water. There is no service on the road and ok the hike. Highly recommend this hike, especially when the lake isn't iced over.

Some accessible. It's fairly primitive. No hookups for RVs, however, there is a dump station. It's a whopping $10 to use. No potable water refills for your campers. FACILITIES/AMENITIES - fairly level gravel sites - picnic table - campfire ring with grill - vault toilets - drinking water - trash collection - firewood for purchase from host - Turquoise Lake is a short hike or drive nearby The host is a very sweet lady. She will come around on a golf cart to collect your info, let you know the rules and see if you need anything. TIPS * There are several other campgrounds within this national forest right next to Father Dyer if you aren't able to reserve the spot you want. * From Highway 24 (the main road in Leadville) the signs are vague on how to get to this area. Unless you know the area, you might get a little lost. So from Hwy 24 drive west on County Road 4 (also known as McWethy Dr) and follow signs to the Turquoise Lake Recreation Area. With snow on the mountains, you in shorts and a t-shirt, and a beer in hand, running with the wind under a spinnaker, there's absolutely nothin' better. It's like skiing the East Wall at A-Basin in July in swim trunks. Once you've sailed on Lake Dillon in force 5 winds, there's no place on earth you can't sail. And maybe no other place on earth that would treat you better. With some of the most beautiful views of the Ten Mile and Gore Ranges imagineable, tis truly a privilege to live in Colorado.

Love Love this reservoir!…read more Snuck away in-between a music fest in Aspen for the day and dropped our SUP's in Ruedi Reservoir. It was such a delight to see this beautiful reservoir on the western slope of the Continental Divide on the Fryingpan River...yep Fryingpan River...lol! This reservoir is da place for not only boating, sailing, biking, hiking, kayaking, SUPing and camping...it's also well known for it's Gold Medal fishery! If you're lucky you might catch some rainbow trout, brown trout or mackinaw trout. Heck, any trout will do! Campers listen up! They've got 4 campgrounds that accommodate 81 campsites and for all you boating enthusiasts, they've got two boat-launching ramps. We watched as boats lined up and it looked like a pretty smooth operation. All in all we can't complain...it was an absolutely beautiful day and we loved all the cool rock formations and little alcoves along the shoreline. This SUPaholic will be back for sure!

The hike up was quite shaded for most of it, and it wasn't too bad until the steep section about halfway into the hike. Views were pretty with mountains in the distance and being surrounded by trees, and the waterfall was small but pleasant. The lakes were pretty as well, and there were lots of places to sit around it. Good hike! I didn't (know to) go all the way to the last lake, just went to Upper Mohawk Lake which took me 3.5 hours round-trip not including time spent at the top.

My favorite hidden gem in Georgetown!…read more Every time I have been here there hasn't been another soul in sight. It's a beautiful and peaceful getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. It's a place where you can be surrounded by trees and nature. There's a beautiful pond where you can enjoy the serene quietness and whispers of the trees. There's also the lovely Clear Creek River which you can dip your feet into. This space is gorgeous if you want to see the changing autumn leaves and capture some great photos. This was my first stop when I arrived at Twin lakes, and I was pleasantly surprised to see a forest…read moreservice employee on site actively talking to visitors and answering questions they might have about the location. He was very friendly and polite and had a lot of information to share. From the parking area there are several paths that can be taking to either scale the small hill leading to a half dozen picnic tables and park grills, or that lead down to the shoreline. The grills seemed to be moderately maintained with a couple of them overflowing with charred debris, but the tables looked to be maintained fairly well. The best viewing spot was at the crest of the hill which let you see out over the entire lake and into the small valley leading to the adjoining lake. There is also a small boat ramp with its own parking area separate from the campground area that is obscured from view helping with the seclusion of the campground. The actual grounds in the non parking area are completely natural and unaltered being left up to natures choices, which is mostly covered in rocks and sparse patches of high mountain grasses. Also at the parking entrance is a small building with restrooms, that are mildly maintained and cleaned, although they were adequate for a camping environment. Overall, this is a nice little camping area with access to some incredible lake views, park grills, and fishing locations.

We stumbled upon this campground by pure accident, and it is simply stunning. Almost all of the…read moreovernight campsites overlook the Twin Lakes and the mountains. For only $17.00 per night ($8.50 if you have an interagency access pass), the campground has potable water, vaulted toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables. There is a boat launch, and the one or two boats we've seen throughout our stays seem to have the pristine lake all to themselves. Our first overnight stay was a new moon, and the Milky Way and the sheer amount of stars was captivating -- and waking up that next morning and opening our tent to the sun rising over the lake and the mountains... well, it doesn't get much better than that. Make sure you grab whatever you'll need before you arrive. The nearest towns with services are Leadville, Buena Vista, or Aspen -- a minimum of 20 miles away. This campground is truly a hidden gem.

The lake sits right against the mountains like it was painted there--calm, clear, and wrapped in pine trees and quiet. We walked the trail that loops around the whole thing, flat and easy, with benches and perfect photo spots every few minutes. A few folks were fishing off the dock, a couple kayaks out on the water, and we even spotted some bighorn sheep casually munching grass on the hillside like they were posing for us. The air was crisp, and the views were postcard-level. There's no swimming or big boating, but honestly, it didn't need it. Just peaceful, clean, and easy to enjoy. It felt like one of those places that doesn't try too hard--just lets the mountains, water, and stillness do the talking.

It's a nice little walk on that side, then we went over to the castle-looking structure. This turned out to be a goat viewing area with some scopes to view the mountainside for wildlife.
