The space can fit about 100 people standing or about 60-70 sitting. The facilities come with 6-7 nice round table, 50 some cushy chairs, a huge tv screen to play blue rays or presentations from your laptop, spacious patio and a very functional kitchen. My 16…read moreyear old and her friend volunteered for a week this summer and had one of the best experiences of their lives. The staff were good at delegating, the tasks came with responsibility, and they felt like they were truly helping. The friend has experience volunteering elsewhere and said this was the best experience by far. They enjoyed getting to know the clients, e.g., neighborhood folks using the services, and got a little bit of understanding of poverty and the importance of safety nets. What made them also feel good was that staff, other volunteers, and the clients were universally kind, respectful, and appreciative of everyone. I have heard a lot of great things about the Southwest Community Center over the years. They feed breakfast and lunch to low income and homeless, provide support services like being able to receive mail and get a little help financially if they get stuck, provide showers, hand out bags of groceries, etc. All in an atmosphere of love and support.
