Now this is the mother of all parks! Nicknamed Castle Park, my kids can spend hours here pretending to be royalty! The castle is huge with a rocky moat. It's harder to keep an eye on them due to the size of the castle so be prepared to be on your feet and get some steps in. There is lots of sand. Play structures, swings and rocking horses too. Northwood Community Park is clean and you can easily find parking onsite. My 2-year old loved Castle Northwood. She especially loved the swings and slides. She has to be on the swing for a minimum of thirty minutes or else she throws a tantrum. After an hour at the park, she cried when we left. That usually happens, so it wasn't a surprise. I like that there are so many themed parks in the OC area. We try to go to a different park every weekend. Please let me know if you have any recommendations for me. read more

First of all- LUPE from the City of Irvine is a godsend. She helped us coordinate the paperwork and book the Multipurpose room. We then met Jonathan....ugh that might not be his name, sorry. It was a J. I think. He was the actual staff there on the day of. He helped us set up all the tables and chairs, we had a lovely baby shower. Could not be happier with the space and accommodations. They have plenty of counter space, tons of tables and chairs available, a KITCHEN (for a small fee), and plenty of outlets! We were able to fit 50 ppl in here comfortably along with plenty of decor, food/buffet lines and space for running around if we wanted. The restrooms were clean and were right outside the door. Parking was also abundant and right outside the room. The multipurpose room is right at the front of the community center so it is easy to find. MULTIPLE entrances. Highly recommend. It could prob fit up to 90 people. The booking process and fees were not tough everything is online, and they call you back pretty soon. Event insurance is needed. read more

This park is really nice (minus the sand - hence the 4 stars). It's big, relatively clean, nicely spaced out, ample rocking horses and swings. Nice grass fields, handball and b-ball half court. A plus about this park is that parents actually watch their kids, rather than bring their kids to the park so that can play on their phones. Smh. Anyway, I recommend this park to others. read more

We love Castle Park! There is so much to do here -- it's difficult to get kids to leave. Not only is the park and playground great, but there is a nice little walking track that goes around the baseball/soccer field. Everything at this park is what you'd expect from an Irvine park: clean, fun and family-friendly. The only downside is that there isn't enough shade around the playground equipment. Mid-day can be especially brutal as the hot sun bears down. We resort to playing for a while, then taking a break to sit underneath one of the many trees around the outside of the playground. ETA: Actually, there is a part of the park to be aware of, which I like to call the Bridge of Doom. It's really slippery, and always has sand on it, which makes it extra slippery. I've seen many kids and adults slip and fall straight on their behinds on the bridge, especially if they walk on it slowly. I really hope the parks department puts some traction down or something to prevent people from slipping! read more

Behold in all it's vast glory: the Northwood Community Park It's other moniker is being known as Castle Park. The most epic of epic playgrounds. The castle wraps around the play jungle gym area. A rocky moat encompasses the castle's walls. If you have little ones around 1-3 I would keep your eyes glued and your hands ready. The rocks are extremely craggy and appear extremely dangerous if a kid were to misstep, the child would undoubtedly bash their head against said rock. So please be alert, don't let your monkeys run amuck. I would not let your kiddos run around with out their shoes, although the park is immaculate and the layout exceptional, I had some issues running around with out my shoes on. Just a warning. Otherwise this park is full of goodies! If you want your family to feel enchanted and like royalty then bounce on over to Castle Park, have your child be the hero and save the princess from the tallest tower. Two play areas are present, this playground is more for the 5-12 age group. Their is a long firefighter sliding pole that serves as an exit route for those who are 'trapped' in the tallest tower of the castle. read more

You come here because of the castle fort. It seems big but it's really really boring. There is nothing behind the walls so it's much more like running around it (or climbing the rocks). The playground itself is unremarkable (few slides and features) and there are others in the area that are much better (Victory Park or the pirate themed one off of tustin ranch). read more

This place is a testament to Irvine's dedication to parks and recreation. It has 2 soccer fields, a baseball diamond, two tennis courts, a racquetball wall, and a great playground for children. There is something for everyone here if you have children. I just realized, I forgot the little exercise trail they have around the sport parks! Duh! The castle park is clean. It is a good place to have a lunch with the family. There is plenty of non-sports grass space for small children to run around. The sports fields are nice. I played baseball here as a kid, and my kids have both played soccer tournaments at this field. Their bathrooms are kept clean and there is staffing on premises if there are any problems. read more

This park is perfect! Very clean! Small shaded area. I recommend putting on sunscreen! The castle is neat... it has a manly touch to it! My son loves the castle. It offers both sand and foam pads. Nice facelift! Castle Park as it's called is a gem of a park. We started coming here when the kids were tiny and loved it then. They've done a great job with the playground and remodel of the community center over the past few years. The park is kept clean and tidy. There are picnic tables and lots of mature trees to keep you shaded. I like the fitness stations that are spotted around the field. Parents can keep busy while their kids practice soccer or baseball! We came here on a Saturday afternoon to let the kids run off some energy. The parking lot is small, but the park is HUGE. There is a castle structure that looks like a castle and has two play sets next to it. There are swings and spring horses, slides, thinks to climb on, and rock piles next to the walls of the castle. I am very bias when it comes to Irvine Parks, I worked for the city, grow-up in the city, and play at every park in the city of Irvine. Some of my fondest childhood memories came from Northwood Community Park aka Castle Park. For young kids this is such a great park to have their imaginations grow. They can be kings / knights / princesses for the day. The park is always well kept, and typically mid-week they will have staff on hand in case of minor boo boos. Restrooms on site, which all Irvine parks have, Huntington Beach does offer the luxury of pluming to their residence at any park! Looking to get out of the house and want to try something fun for the kids, let them loose here for an hour. Neg - I believe their reconstructing the community building, so they may have some portion of the park off-limits. read more

The community center is modern, clean, and has free wi-fi. The bathrooms are well-stocked and not what you may expect from public park restrooms. The fieldspace is green and has nice perimeter shade from the trees. Playground looks much cooler from afar than it actually is, but it looks like an update may be coming soon. This is a review for the playground only: What a huge, beautiful place to play! Mostly sand so don't forget your sand toys. I would say it's 75% in the sun, so wear sunscreen - it was super hot the day I went and it was somewhat difficult to find shady areas in the playground. Will definitely go back on a cooler day. Great park. Very big, open, and clean. Tons of equipment for kids of all ages to play on. The only down side is that it is hard to keep an eye on more than one kid. The castle equipment was a favorite of every kid there. Surrounding the park is open fields, and some handball courts. There are also tons of benches to eat on. read more

This is such a cool park with a large playground for the little ones. They even have a cement castle that you can climb into and walk around, tell me that's not cool!? The park itself is pretty large to walk around. It's located in a nice neighborhood. We were their at night and I felt pretty safe. They had tennis courts and several wild bunnies hopping around if you're lucky to spot them. read more

Such a lovely and clean park! The playground is really awesome and safe for the kids too. There is a mock castle for kids to play along side of, as well as the usual slide, swings and rockers. one of my absolute favorite parks. I grew up going here and now my kids love it as well. there is a huge castle (much safer now than 20 yrs ago) where the kids can run nuts. all the structures are new and partially shaded. basketball hoop right next to the playground in case you want to get in a few shots while the kids play. read more
