My bro in law and sis in law brought us here for some fun. It's a lounge/club. We went on a Friday night and they were playing old school black music. The club was packed by the time we left. They have security checking ID's at the door. There was a $20 cover charge. When you first walk in it's the lounge area. People are chilling on couches. They're drinking and eating food. I'm not sure what's on the menu, I didn't get any food. You walk outside to the patio area and that's where the dance floor is. There's also a small bar. They have a live DJ spinning the music. I have only been here one time but they had a couple of female DJ's that were slammin! Electric/techno, dance. Loved it, but it is quite the drive for me so I cannot hang here, often as I would like. I went to Detroit in the heart of winter so I was not able to experience the patio areas, as one was closed and the other area, well, it was just too cold for me to go outside, but some were smoking out there, so that was accomadating for those that do smoke. We had a male, bartender who was super cool, but there was a girl on the other side who was a _ _ _ ch, and not in a good way, so she hasseled my friend. I observed her and her snarl I just didn't know about my friends encounter with her, until later. ------- However, I found the bartender, on the other side to be nice and the front bouncer and security were cool and not overbearing. No entrance fee on the night I was there and food by the front entrance as you come in. Out of sight to visit, I really enjoyed myself. Many thanks to the hospitality I received. This review is for their handling of tickets being purchased at the door. We were in the front of the line and had been waiting for no less than 30 minutes. Suddenly they decided the move the line against the wall of the club with no regard for the previously formed line on the sidewalk. So instead of being in the front, we were then in the middle. When I brought it up, the security guard screamed at me and accused me of cutting. Waited another 30 minutes and left for another party instead. I don't even mind not getting into the club, I understand that things sell out. But there's no excuse for such rude security. Also, there were definitely people getting let in who didn't show tix or guest list or anything so maybe they knew someone to get in? I don't know. Total sh*t show. read more

It's hard for me to review this place, I'm told this is normally a dance club and I went to see a live band. So based solely off that experience here's my review. First off I suggest you google street view this place if you're not familiar to it's location, because it's extremely difficult to see any sign on the building until you get right to it. They have their own parking across the street and a valet parking. Even parking your car yourself will cost you $5 (no idea about Valet). But I was glad people were outside watching cars, the neighborhood is just so-so. Funny enough the Valet guys couldn't break my 20, the cover guy couldn't break my 20, the mandatory $2 coat check girl couldn't break my 20 $. Finally the bartender broke it for me. so I paid off all door people so I could move on to my business, $5 for parking $5 for Entrance, and $2 for my coat. so now were up to $12 dollars and I don't even have a beer in my hand yet. The drink are SUPER expensive here, i bought two miller lite bottles and a vodka tonic $18 = $4 miller lites $10 drink When I walked in they the bar was all decked out in blue and yes TV's with white couches and curtains. the bar also had these comically large blue stools. The other side (band side) was a little more to my liking, dark with red couches and a really hip room. the stage was nice and high too, the band sounded great but the band ran their own sound so I'll credit "will sessions" with that. I'm not sure this place caters to the type of people this band attracts, (young hole in the wall crowd) who are not used to swanky rooms with pricey drinks. I will say it was extremely easy to get a server to ask you for a drink, almost to the point of being annoying. If a band I like was playing there again I'd probably come out, but I bring a little more cash next time. read more

TV Lounge is honestly one of my favorite places on Earth. It doesn't matter if I'm visiting for a Movement afterparty that goes until noon or just a regular weekday/night whenever I'm in town from Chicago. It's always a good vibe with the quickest, dopest staff on hand, not to mention the music! I love local Detroit techno DJs and this is one of the best places in the city to listen to them. Get you a cheap beer, find a seat on the patio and vibe to the music while getting one of the best views of the skyline. read more

I almost gave this place two stars, but then the memories flooded back. The Good This bar can be lots of fun. They have some of the better dance parties in town, and for whatever reason, the liquor laws don't seem to be enforced against them. I'm for the rule of law, but sometimes 2am is too early to go home! The Bad Lines at the bar can be a little bad sometimes without enough customers to warrant it. But that's ok, it's nothing horrible. The Ugly I've never had such consistently bad experiences with security. A few years ago, I went with some friends, and one of them went to his car at about 1:30. When he came back, the security told him they didn't let people back in after 1 unless they tipped them. My friend tried to see if he could pay with credit, but he couldn't. So security left him outside, in the cold, found me, and asked for a tip. I gave the dude $3, and he told me I was a bad tipper, but he let my guy back in. After that, I avoided the place for a while. I went back a couple of times recently, and have had more problems with security. As a group, they are some of the rudest people I've ever come across in the service industry, and I'm a bartender. I don't know what makes them so much worse than most security, but it's stopped me from going plenty of times. A quick survey of my friends led to two main responses on the issue. 1. "Oh everyone there loves me, you should come in with me, it'll be all good." 2. "Yeah, they treat me like shit too, so I avoid going there." I like the DJ's, but not enough to duck in with someone who has managed to not get harassed on the way in or out of the building. If anyone from management would like me to amend this post, I'd be happy to once there's some indication that your security has stopped bullying and shaking down your customers. I want to like this place, especially since it is 30 feet from my old high school. read more

I have to preface my review by saying we were here on Thursday night and there were really fantastic DJ's spinning this night. The place started to get really busy after about 10:30 and by midnight it was packed! #1: Sound in the red room is AWESOME! At least the way they had it set up this particular night, it was one of the best set ups I've heard in a long time. Sooo makes a difference! #2: Friendly, attentive, fabulous bar tenders. It's got a quirky atmosphere, but Mikey, I think I like it! There are basically 2 separate rooms and during the summer there was an outdoor patio where the DJ's were set up early in the evening. As the night moved on, they had the main act on the stage in the larger "red" room, which has a bigger dance space and a raised level along the back with couches and tables. Good vibe. People watching was grand. I love Detroit. No pretense, no "in crowd", just a bunch of people from who knows where having a good time. Note: It's not "dress to impress" (thank goodness!). A pair of converse, ripped jeans and a tshirt will do just fine. Come dressed up or down - just roll with it and have a good time! read more

Ok, after a couple years since my last visit, I've found myself at TV a couple times recently. I haven't gone back on a weekend night (which was my past experience), but for happy hour. Specifically, on Wednesdays. Their Wednesdays are called "the Cool" - presumably for the cool laid back jams played by the DJ. I DO definitely dig the mix of music they have going on there. What I dig even more? Wednesday nights, 6-9, for every two drinks you buy you get a FREE order of chicken.* That's right folks...a basket of about 3 meaty chicken wings (full wings, not wing dings) and fries for Free.99. The chicken has been fried to perfection every time, but the fries were a little hit or miss. And it's not limited to one order per person. If you sit there and have 4 drinks over a few hours, you'll get 2 orders of chicken. Awesome deal however you cut it. Their drink specials during this time are pretty much everything running you either $5 or 6....not bargain prices, but considering you get free chicken thrown in, just choose carefully and order a good cocktail like a long island to make sure you're really getting your moneys worth on the deal. The crowd is real laid back, seems like a lot of regulars. The interior has a nice chill vibe and plenty of comfortable seating both at the bar and at couches. The outside fenced in yard area is available as well so you can enjoy the nice weather while getting your sip n' chicken on. The manager has been present and friendly to us both times - also a good look. The waitress advised us that Friday nights are the real party, for a $5 cover. I think I'm going to try to come around here more often. *Note: the chicken is a Wednesday 6-9 thing ONLY. I have no idea what the rest of their menu items and prices look. read more

(4.5 Stars) Really great room, someone put a lot of effort into it. Service was on point, crowd was kool. I went here to check out this stand up show on a Tuesday, it usually starts @ 11. The comics were on point, it kinda felt like you were part of the 'studio audience.' Also my favourite DJ in Michigan (Johnny Arnold) spins here on Sundays... Drinks were a lil pricey for the area (pretty much in Cass Corridor) but it was a lot of fun, the comics made it sooo worth it! read more

Went here as part of a nightcap of a friend's Birthday celebration. My first thought about this place is that its called the "TV Lounge" and yet only like 2 of the 100 TVs were on. OK, so then the drinks: they are high ($5-6$ for a bottle beer, about $10 for a drink). Then you have the experience: It was boring to where i actual fell asleep on one of the couches (seriously). I will say this however, they need to switch the sides of the club ( the bar atmosphere better suites the club space and the club atmosphere better suites the smaller bar side). I went to TV for an after work networking affair on a night that they typically have a Wednesday night Happy Hour titled "The Cool". The interior was nice (we were only one one side of the place). Apparently, the other side is another room with seats, dance floor, more TVs and another bar. The side we were on was basically identical. Speaking of the bar, the bar chairs don't move. That can be a bit uncomfortable when munching on their fried chicken & fries -- which are complimentary when you purchase 2 drinks. I'm not sure if that was just a Wednesday night thing for "The Cool" or if that's typical of the place. The chicken was indeed tasty and hot. THe fries were seasoned and delicious, too. Perfect after you've been drinking. For "The Cool", drinks are either $5 or $6 all night. All drinks... so if you get a beer, which should typically be $3-$4, it will be $5 also. Domestic or Imported... doesn't matter. The outside patio is very nice. It's a really nice space that I could see dressed up for a fun evening for their guests. There appeared to be some cool lighting out there, too. I'd go back for Happy Hour... not sure about the weekend nights where there is a cover. However, it appears that they get a lot of business because I'd often see cars lined up along Grand River to go to TV. Oh, and shout out to the DJ Ren Cen Cool Beanz who was spinning some hot tracks. If you have the chance to see a show here on a warm summer night, you have to go! This is one of the best outdoor summertime clubs in the city. The music is nothing short of fantastic, the scene is the diverse techno loving crowd where respect and unity are always top priorities. The club itself is cool, a good place to chill, dance, meet new people, gay or straight, all ethnicities, all age groups (other than children under 21). I recommend this place for anyone who wants to see the best of Detroit summertime techno. read more

This place is a fantastic venue. If you come to TV Lounge with the right DJ in mind, it is a fantastic experience. TV is home to the famous Circo Loco party every Movement festival season, and has featured a countless number of worldwide talent. TV Lounge also has a newly renovated patio, where there are outdoor parties on the weekends. The staff here is extremely respectful compared to the opposite experience at so many other bars in Detroit I have been to. A true underrated diamond in the rough. read more

. I have wanted to go to TV lounge for a while seeing that I like dancing and sweating to the House Music Beat. This place is located across from the Casino in a safe location. There was great parking for only $5 and $5 per person for entry into the club. I decided to make it a Night on the town after visiting Detroit for DRW. There are 2 sections, R&B side and the House music side. It was actually not crowded for a Friday but I was told that it usually is. The house music was great. This was WJLB night and they kept it rocking. I had a great time dancing and sweating. Drinks seemed kind of steep at $9 per drink but I did have a Long Island. I am not a big clubber these days but I will visit one day in the future. read more

I've been to TV Lounge a couple of times and have always had a great time. I know this because both times I've needed a cab to get home! The atmosphere is dark and modern, and the space is bigger than it looks, with your main bar area, the dance club area, and the outdoor lounge. Although I appreciate the feel of this place and the good DJ spinning, it's the clientele that make this place. Everything from the metro dbags to people in yoga pants, and everyone in between. I can dress up or dress down and I'll still fit in. The drinks are a bit pricey but they are effective so you don't need too many. Granted, I can't get there as often as I'd like, but whenever I'm in the mood to dance without feeling overwhelmed by a big club scene, I always consider this place. read more

I love this place! Awesome spot to see a show. Always some good parties going on here (Detroit house, among others) . My favorite area is definitely the outside stage in the summer. Staff seemed nice from what I could tell and drinks were good. Will be going back. Only downside is the parking situation. $5 and you run the risk of getting your car broken into if staying till 2:00 or later. Overall, a solid 4 stars. read more

A man repeatedly grabbed me and started taking a video of himself doing so. I threw his phone behind the dj booth and tried to report it to the bar manager. I asked him to review the security footage and ban the guy from the bar. He did neither. Instead, he got his girlfriend to come speak to me and cleared my tab. Yay TV bar is fun again! We went there for the Paxahau anniversary, and had a great time. They opened up the back outdoor area again and had extra bathrooms thanks to the promoter I'm guessing. It was still hectic getting a drink, but the jerky bartender was gone. woo! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because a worker was shooting off fireworks and one was shot down into the crowd. Best house music bar in detroit. Been attending the shows here for quite some time and it beats out the the other mid-sized show venues. The mixed drinks are pretty small and a bit pricey, but the staff is friendly and the artists they book are top notch. read more

I've been a few times and really enjoyed the ambience of the place. I went looking for some good house and disco music since I am from Chicago. The house music that was being spinned wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I thought since Chicago is only a hop, skip, and a jump away that the DJ will be playing that old deep house music like the CHi DJ' s. The promoters should book gigs for some Chicago house music DJ' s at least one Friday out of every month so people can really lose there mind to the music. read more
