The gizzards was good, but my steak i wanted rare was cool and tasted like it was just getting ready to be overdue. Nautical down the street will be better to go to for steak. read more

Tweeter's Bar & Grill is a huge part of my childhood! I was the daughter of a teacher so we didn't eat out often on vacation, we were on a budget. Well, I feel like it says something that we made a point to eat out at here! Every. Single. Summer. Fast forward... a decade or... uh, three... and I took my family here. We popped in during the lunch hour on a weekday in August. It was basically empty, with only a handful of tables frequented. Our waitress was fabulous, though the kitchen was slow. Food was just ok. Fries were scarce and soggy. Prices were super high for portion size, even for the lake. Ambiance used to be just Hawkeyes and now almost has more Cyclones... eek. (Oddly, I hate wood paneling but I miss it here! I get they did an update, but I liked its old charm.) Overall, I have fond memories here but I don't think I'll come back anytime soon. read more

Great place to eat! Service from everyone was great, food was yummy! We had cheese curds (amazing), club sandwich, kids cheeseburger, and smiley fries. Restaurant was clean and inviting. Everything was good and will be back when we are back in the area! read more

Worst experience of my life. Owner or manager Kae was giving horrible service and couldn't bother with an apology. Two of us got the filet mignon, a Philly and a Caesar with steak. One was med well and the other was med rare. Which also took over 1 hour and 20 minutes for four entrees. Both came out well. I sent mine back. Told them I'll take a salad in stead we had somewhere to be. There were also only 7 tables in there at the time we ordered. My friend was eating her Philly and ended up finding a hair cooked into it. Brought it to the manager she told us she will make a new one. We said no thank you but you need to be aware of it. She said well I don't know what you want me to do, I'm being pulled every other direction. I said I would like you to fix the problem please. She said fine I'll take it off your bill and go ahead and write a review. I just wanted an apology, it would go a long way. But Kae was rude, unprofessional, childish, and honestly I was quite taken back by her demeanor. read more

This is a NO GO! Food was terrible. Old cooking grease for the appetizer that we got so made it horrible and the gizzards were so overcooked they were rubber. We ordered the western burger that might as well been a hockey puck that was so overcooked that it cause choking. Ordered a Dagwood sandwich and the bun was so dry and the bottom bun was soggy make that make sense, the cold meat was dried out and shriveled. Never got the Ceaser salad side we asked for. Not worth the time or money spent. Needs serious improvement to everything. If I could give a zero star review I would. Stay away. read more

I grew up in Spirit Lake and Tweeters always had a good rep with the locals. I took a friend to visit the area and we ate there last night. I ordered the fish tacos, which was fried cod on a tortilla with a decent chipotle sauce, coleslaw, and pale pico de gallo. I've had better, but it wasn't bad. My friend ordered the Chicken Oscar, which is one of their signature dishes. It was a chicken breast, Hollandaise and asparagus on an English muffin. There was also supposed to be crab meat in it, but it was obviously imitation. The presentation was disappointing In that the plate looked like a white chicken breast had been thrown on it with some chunky chicken noodle soup pored over the top. The accompanying salad was a plate of dry lettuce with two half-slivers of green pepper and 5 one-inch-long strands of red onion. The big problem is questionably old or tainted ingredients in the Chicken Oscar as my friend was up all night with diarrhea, and then vomited twice on the way home. We had a miserable ride. I hate to accuse the establishment of food poisoning, but we both ate the same things yesterday except for that and I'm not complaining of stomach distress. The service was good, except that it took longer than it should have for us to be seated considering they weren't busy. Our server was a sweetheart. Overall, what I've heard about Tweeters in recent years is, unfortunately, true, and I can see why business there has dwindled. read more

I want to start of saying, these reviews are such lairs!! my first time here and I will be coming again. the hostess right away sat us down and got the best service, the food was great and not expensive at all for me!! very satisfied, I would really recommend having "Shaylee" she is really kind, she made sure we got everything and made sure our service was great and really she was very kind to people, will be coming back because of her! Good sports bar for a drink, but just not up to snuff with its food. We started with the Tweeter Wings. Essentially dry rubbed with fajita seasoning and served beside a cup of ranch. They were very mediocre. We also ordered the Coconut Shrimp appetizer which was average - not as good as that which I've had at Red Lobster, not a food powerhouse in itself. For my entree, I selected the prime rib which they've served since 1972 according to their menu. It was served a little on the cool side, almost like it sat several minutes before coming out. The side of horseradish was extremely runny, almost like it had been watered down. Lastly, the sweet potato fries were bland. It's a nice setting to watch a game or belly up to the bar and drink, but the food itself leaves a lot to be desired. read more

I really wish I would have read the reviews before I came here. I am sorry if you are understaffed or your staff seemed very inexperienced . I understand they need to learn. But maybe warn the customers the wait time for food and drinks will be a long time. We waited over an hour for food and it was barely Luke warm . I feel like my shrimp wasn't done, and the rice was cold. Some people walked out. The food was horrible . I feel like these poor girls that are waiting table are so clueless . I feel sorry for them, but that does not mean I will come back. Also maybe improve the recipes. read more

We often get take-out at Tweeters. The food is always tasty, the service is prompt, and the staff pleasant.

Saturday 24tth. Extremely disappointed. Food was over cooked. With one meal coming out cold. Our group of 20 not one meal was done well. The kids mini corn dogs were so over done they were crunchy. Will have to think twice about spending 250 for lunch here. Waiter did a good job but the kitchen definitely needs help. read more

We were very disappointed with our experience. Drinks took about 25 minutes to get, when we asked the waitress about them she stated "the bar was backed up." Although, we had ordered nonalcoholic drinks as well. Appetizers were good. Service was almost nonexistent. We had to flag down the waitress any time we needed drink refills or to order food. Food is good. Had fajita chicken salad, tasty but needed about 2x the greens. Salsa with it was good, not Texas style but good. The bacon wrapped scallops were good but lacked some flavor somehow. At first, my steak came back a little bit undercooked, which was honestly my mistake when ordering it. They took it back and it came out perfectly after! Wow. This is a sure fire candidate for Bar Rescue. Give this restaurant a hard pass. We went to the restaurant on a Thursday for dinner. The wait time to get a table was approximately 10 minutes. The wait staff was not very engaging and it became apparent that they lacked supervision and management. The service was extremely slow. It took over 20 minutes to get beverages ( three waters, an ice tea, and a Diet Pepsi) to be delivered to our table. The wait staff never "scanned" the room when they were in the front of the house to see if any of their tables needed service. After placing our order, we waited, and waited, and waited for our food. Finally, after approximately 90 minutes, we flagged down an employee and asked to speak to a manager. I had a line of sight from our table to the kitchen. A woman who had been wearing a rubber dishwasher's apron, spoke with the employee and threw down her apron in disgust, and came out to our table. We explained the situation and asked if our order was being prepared. We were informed we were "next up". We canceled the order and left the restaurant. Poor training and lack of supervision is going to lead this enterprise to its demise. The owners need to get involved in this operation or they will be disposing of the restaurant in short order at a fire sale price. read more

Been here a couple times. Slow and bad service from part time seasonal workers. Food is ok if you stick to the basics. I ordered a cheeseburger and it came with meat, cheese and bun. No veggies and a dry bun with a half a handful of fries. I asked the server about lettuce, tomato, etc and he just said they don't do that lol. Waited ten more minutes to get some ketchup. Based on the meal that we had on 8/15/24 I can not recommend this restaurant. It is a nice place and the wait staff did a good job. They were attentive, got our drinks right away and checked on us. I should probably say that we were there at 5:00 when they opened so there was only one other table besides us. We did not have to wait long to get our meal but what a disappointment it was. I ordered the pork tenderloin which was only about 1/4 inch thick, way overcooked and tough as shoe leather. So hard I couldn't cut it with the knife provided. I guarantee it was not hand pounded and freshly breaded like the menu said. It was a frozen piece of crap. My wife had a hamburger which was extremely small, about 1/2 the size of a bun and also over cooked. I will say the the sweet potato fries were good but not many of them. Extremely disappointing! I follow the Iowa Pork Tenderloin trail and know what a good one should look and taste like. read more

Gayle, the Kid, and I stopped in during our annual visit to the Iowa Great Lakes Region. My Brother joined us, as did a high school classmate from 40 years ago. Yes, it was also reunion weekend in Estherville. Back in the early days, Tweeters had a downstairs bar area. That's long gone, and I found the current upstairs dining and drinking areas to be quite nice and inviting. Service was good and my chicken skillet was delicious. Gayle had a similar positive experience with her shrimp skillet and ditto for my Son's Burrito. However, my Brother indicated that his buffalo chicken was only OK. I didn't get a good feel from our friend's Walleye Pike, but he did finish his plate. The best part of the evening was sitting in our corner table and enjoying each other's company as we caught up. Times have changed, but on some level things remain the same. Tweeter's remains a good place to help put those conversations in perspective. read more

Please listen to reviews that say the food is bad and overpriced. Do not waste your money. The carpet is dirty and worn as well as the table and chairs First impression of the dinning room does not sync with pricey menu. Hawkeye only decor great if this barcwas in iowa city but its not. Salad was sad. My prime rib was cold the potato was old my wifes chicken was just a tiny piece of plain grilled chichen. The only thing that was any good was the toast. We have had bad experiences at this restaurant previously and hadn't eaten here in over a year. last time we were seated and not waited on for 20 minutes and ended up leaving unnoticed. We decided to give it another try today. The place was about 25% full. We ordered burgers and fries and a beer. After about 40 minutes had passed, we started to get irritated and the table next to us had the same experience. our food came after waiting about 50 minutes. I had ordered a burger without onions and it had onions in it. the food was not good at all. the bill came and a 12 oz beer was $7. this was an absolute disappointment and a horrible value. a prime candidate for an episode of bar rescue. #trainwreck read more

Our waitress Tara answered all our questions about the menu AND what to do around town. I had a wonderful salad with beets, blue cheese, chicken, romaine, walnuts and a delicious raspberry vinaigrette. Horrible service. The waitress wouldn't even talk. She talked back when we tried to order and had a question. Interrupted me while ordering and almost wrote down the wrong thing. Our food was cold when it came out. So her way of fixing the problem was to say "I can re-heat that for you." Um no! It's a Steak Oscar. We were told the manager would be coming over to resolve the issue. 20 minutes later we had to ask another waitress to get the manager for us. Unless you suffer from constipation, STAY AWAY! Our waitress was sweet, but totally distracted. Although our order was correct, the pre-bus was super confusing as in use items were taking off the table. 30 min after our meal, my child and I were searching for the privacy of a restroom where we could release the gastric pressure of what I can only assume a volcano feels like... shortly after our visit to a very expensive meal, we lost a great pair of jeans, a blanket, my favorite hat, 100% of human dignity and had a terrible ride home. The food was poor to okayish, I regret not going to Casey's and getting pizza, or perhaps getting a day old hotdog from a sketchy convenience store. On the plus side, I'm down five pounds. Came in on a whim and was pleasantly surprised with the fabulous service. All the staff was welcoming and friendly. It started with the hostess being probably the most uninviting hostess I've ever encountered in my life. I'm convinced that if we hadn't of asked for a high chair she would have sat us immediately. But the second we asked for one she got instantly annoyed and said the wait would be at least 20 minutes and then proceeded to make herself look busy. Mind you the dining room was not full and there were clearly open tables - one of which we were seated at 5 minutes later. The only good thing about our experience was our waitress (Tara) who was kind and smiling. No other staff or servers in the entire dining room had a good attitude or smile. I asked for a steak dip sandwich... she said they did not have prime rib yet but it could be steak ... but what I was given was a burnt piece of steak on 2 pieces of toast and a cup of aus jus. It was really disappointing considering the same entree was the same price and the most incredible steak sandwich just down the street. But it's not the food that really upset me... The young rude hostess proceeded to walk by our table glaring at my sister and my young niece who was struggling to sit still. This young lady (the hostess) couldn't have been more then 16-17 years old. So I understand some level of ignorance but she doesn't know what other people struggles her. She doesn't know if my niece has special needs or autism. So for her to walk by and openly make it clear she disapproved of my 2 year old niece who did not want to eat her Mac n cheese was slightly upsetting. The most upsetting part was that it went past the looks as she walked past. The room cleared and it was only is and 2 other tables being served in the whole restaurant. The hostess and other servers were behind the bar talking about my sister and niece in hushed tones and looking back at us. With several of the staff members opening talking shit about my family, I was clearly ready to leave. But with how slow the service of getting our food was (whole different I don't even want to address but surprises me because obviously plenty staff had time to stand behind the bar and talk about patrons)... I was surprised we got out of there at all. We went here last summer and had an AMAZING experience and were so excited to go back. But after this ... never again.
