Twilight Cafe is a board game cafe with drink and food options available located in a strip plaza near Midland and Silver Star Blvd. The cafe actually has 5 locations all across the GTA, from downtown to Toronto to North York. The space at this Scarborough location is fully accessible with plenty of tables and games to choose from. In regards to the pricing, you can play as many games as you'd like within a 2 hour period for $6. Each hour after that is an additional cost. You do not have to order food or drink but I believe if it is busy (like on the weekends or Friday nights) you may have to make a drink purchase. I visited Twilight Cafe on a Friday night with 3 others where we spent 2 hours playing a few games. There is quite a large selection of games, some even in Chinese! We played a total of 2 different games several times. We also ordered food and drinks, which is done via a QR code on your table. The drink menu is quite extensive and there are lots of tea/milk tea options. Food wise, there are snacks, desserts, as well as some rice bowls as well. Service was friendly and our food was made at a reasonable time. Our food and drinks was decent as we enjoyed playing board games together. During the Friday that we went, the place wasn't too busy which was great as we were able to talk freely amongst ourselves. Great friend group hangout!! It's super busy here at night and we have tried so many times to come here without a reservation. The first two hours go by too fast. Lots of food options and the drinks are yum! I definitely recommend the fried chicken on rice. Crispy and I think the portion is worth it. The menu items are definitely pricier and adds up. It's cool they have alcoholic drinks too if you want to have an even better night! It's $3 for add. time after the initial 2 hours. I came here on a Friday evening with some friends. It was pretty empty when we went in so we were able to get the couches area in the back. The couches are super cozy and the table height is a good height for playing board games. There are a pretty good amount of board games that were there like Ticket to Ride, Catan, Code Names, Pandemic and Avalon. Some were pretty old and worn down but all of the pieces were always there. You can order an assortment diferent desserts like egg waffle, glutinous rice, and also food like wings or rice. There is also a large bubble tea and drinks menu. I ordered the dirty matcha milk tea and it was pretty average, though very sweet despite me indicating 50% sugar. The service is pretty much non-existent as the service is only for delivery of the food/drinks and paying up front. It isn't like Snakes & Latte, where there are employees walking around and ready to explain to you the game. As such, come prepared knowing how to play the games, as it can take quite a lot of time to read the instructions for the game. The parking lot is on the smaller size and in a somewhat busy plaza. I was driving home from work and felt like getting bubble tea. I recently got into asking Google on my phone where things are. I blame Android Auto in my car rental in Dallas for making me all lazy and into 2019. My initial thought was to visit CoCo, my favourite bubble tea place, in this plaza in Scarborough. I actually changed my mind after parking my car in this crazy lot and walking by Twilight Cafe. Two signs greeted me when I first walked in. One was a sign saying what the business handles were on various social platforms. The other was a sign saying to not bring other drinks purchased from other businesses into this cafe. Okay. That thought never popped in my head. I suppose that others have done just that. I walked in and was greeted by two male staff at the counter. Both were Chinese. The one that helped me had a Australian accent, which was cool. I wish that one of my students had been with me. She melts hearing a male Australian accent and would have been more than happy camping out here. For hours. Likely asking him for his hand in marriage. I ordered a similar drink to what I usually do at CoCo. I got a large strawberry juice with coconut jelly. I got it with little ice and no sugar. The man explained that there would still be the natural sweetness in the juice, which I was fine with. He asked me to feel free and browse while he made it for me. What I didn't know was that I stumbled into a board game cafe. Yay! I loved all the cool selection of board games that they had. I loved the various spaces that you could sit down with your group, play, laugh, snack, and drink. I could envision this place being lively. The downside was that I was the only customer in this store at around 8 pm on a weekday. It's nice that the cafe has chargers should you need to charge your mobile device. It's a smart move. My drink was ready. I thanked both guys and liked the concept of coming here for board games. These is a coziness to this cafe that I dig. The parking lot at this plaza is crazy, though. I backed into a snowy, icy spot and it was tight for even my smallish car. It's narrow to get in and out of. Folks do not know how to drive, either. My drink was okay. As a spot for chilling and to play board games, it's not bad. The selection of games are decent and vary in condition. When it comes to the cafe portion, the milk teas were extremely watered down and overpriced for what they offered. We also ordered a Watermelon Sago expecting it to be in a drink but was unpleasantly presented with a bowl that looked like watermelon chunks in a bowl of cereal. Aside from presentation, the sago was also quite bland with it mainly tasting like straight up 2% milk. The wifi also wasn't working while we were there so the payment option was restricted to cash. Came here on a Wednesday night at around 9pm. The cafe was 80% full. My friends and I came here with the intention of playing board games. I can't remember if you have to get a drink or if there is no minimum if you stay on a weekday (Mon-Thurs). If you stay on Fri-Sun, you have to spend a minimum of $10 every 3 hours to stay. That sounds fair to me...they're trying to make profit on their busiest days. And instead of paying the sitting fee, you can use that money towards food or drink. They have a good variety of board games, the games are labeled with stickers based on the level of difficulty, two players game and/or party game. We played four of their games and they are in good condition with all the games pieces intact. I ordered the roasted milk tea with grass jelly. I tried my friend's drink with tapioca. The tapioca tastes better than grass jelly. I would say my drink taste average - there are other bubble tea places around the plaza that tastes better, as well as bubble tea places that tastes worse. This is by far one of the most aesthetically pleasing board game cafes I've been to. The atmosphere of the location is very nice and perfect for an afternoon out with friends. The board game selection although not the largest has quite a few classic and popular board games as well as some unique ones. When I came with my friend we both chose to order a specialty drink (both costing around $4-5 alone). I ordered the Purple Butterfly (tastes like the mini yakult yogurt drink) & my friend ordered the Blue Butterfly (tastes like sprite with coconut water). Although the drinks we tried were definitely pretty they were not the best tasting. Had a quite good experience dining and gaming here! Had no intention on dropping in but my favorite dessert spot in this same plaza was packed with a line up to the door. Enticed by the $2.99 grand opening special sign, and eventually the cleanly interior and board games, I unexpectedly spent 3 hrs here having a fun time. In light of the negative reviews, I'm hoping the management reflecting on the customer feedback had much to do with the good service I received. If dining in to play games, you order at the counter to start a tab at your table. It's 1 hour per person per 3 hours if playing games, with an increase to $10 minimum per person per 3 hours on Fri-Sun. This wasn't told to us until we had been playing for 20 min but no problem. We were more than happy to stay, even though the restaurant was full and every table occupied, never did we feel rushed to leave. The milk tea itself was very good! Not the place for premium quality tea or made to brew tea but definitely not subpar. Did not taste stale or underwhelming. The classic milk tea had a better taste over the roasted milk tea in my opinion. 4/5 Beverage selection is delightfully up to speed as they had butterfly pea tea and drinks topped with ice cream. Worth trying out next time around. We also ordered the cheese toast but felt it fell below our expectations. It was essentially toast with cheese wiz, toasted with condensed milk and slices almonds which sounds good except it was served on of slices of Wonderbread, not brick toast. 2/5 Extensive and exciting board game selection was their saving grace. I was entertained the whole way through and have already invited friends to meet here sometime to play and snack. I was really content with my first experience here. The second time I came by for a drink to go, it took a whopping 25 minutes to receive my drink. In the most forgiving way there are lots operational kinks they still need to straighten out as well as better communication with customers. It would have been nice to be told they were brewing a fresh batch of tea as soon as they knew, not only when 5 orders after ours had received their drinks and I had to ask what the hold up was. Would have left much more frustrated than I did but the employee did apologize. Finally, a game board cafe at the Midland and Finch plaza! This cafe has an assortment of desserts and drinks, such as cake, bubble tea, shaved ice, and waffles. The place is very clean, and has a nice look to its interior. They have an incredible amount of games, from board to card, and most if not all are in great condition. The team working here is super friendly! Near every table they have a "call" button that makes it very easy and efficient to call a server over to order or ask for something. The dessert pricing and quality is pretty standard. They do time you for three hours of gameplay--after this time, everyone in the party has to order again or they boot you out. Reason for Visit: Looking for a new board games cafe in Scarborough area. Menu: They have some fancy flower based bubble teas but I was too scared to try them. So I decided to stick with their mango slush which tasted exactly what it should be so no complaints. They do make you buy a new drink after 3 hours of play time, however they are really generous with the rule as they often just let you stay the extra 10-20 mins to finish your game. Just be friendly to them, they are very reasonable. Service: Pretty much 2 people running the entire show. They do bring drinks to the tables so don't hesitate to start your game after ordering. My new favourite place to hangout with friends for bbt and board games. There are plenty of board games to choose from and most of games are a lot newer than other board game cafes. Drinks are mediocre. I've been here multiple times and tried different drinks. Both times they tasted very average. There was one time I got the original milk tea with grass jelly. The grass jelly was floating which means... it was very soft and thin. Incomparable to the dense and smooth grass jelly I like. Oh, and ofcourse like all uptown establishments they're way more affordable than the Snakes franchise. I'm particularly fond of their 'snack cup' which gives you a choice of snacks like sausages or (what I believe to be Taiwanese-styled?) fries in a lil dish that is a part of your beverage container. Their atmosphere is quite laid-back and chic, so I've personally been here more for quality catch-up time post-work than for the games. If you come after dinnertime with a larger group however, you'll likely be waiting a bit (but probs not more than 25mins) until a table frees up. They do have a few waiting seats available by the cash register window if you decide to wait. Upon entering, we were greeted by the female employee. She was ok and helpful. For a new place that just opened up a week ago and for a Monday, this place was packed. Practically all tables were occupied with people playing board games. I didn't know whether the employee spoke Mandarin or Cantonese so I spoke to her in English. Since we already ate and drank, we decided to get bbt to go. I couldn't decide between the 2 specials drinks so I got both and also treated my friend to 1 drink. That's 3 drinks in total and over $10. This is where things get interesting. Upon paying, the girl said she would called me when the order was ready so I stood on the side waiting for my order. A male employee quickly came over to make the drinks and asked her in Canto whether we asked for toppings. She said no toppings. He said of course they aren't getting any toppings when the toppings aren't free or included with the drinks! I was stunned by what he just uttered and how he just made that assumption. I was also taken aback on how he could said things like that and just stood there making fun of its customers behind their back. They also assumed I couldn't understand Canto because I ordered in English. Imagine had I ordered in Cantonese. Would they dare said things like that? The girl turned around and said the drinks were almost ready. I replied back with a thank you in Cantonese. This is the moment where they both realised I clearly heard and understood what they just said about me and my friend. I told my friend what happened and we went back to the counter to get our drinks. Initially the girl was the one handling our order and the guy was clearly trying to avoid me and my friend by passing the drinks to the girl but then the girl got called away as more customers came in. After the guy gave us our final drink, my friend frankly told him the reason why we ordered our roasted classic milk tea without any toppings was because we wanted to see how their tea would taste and didn't want the toppings to ruin the taste of the drink. The male employee acknowledged quickly that he is always joking. That was pretty much his reasoning. He is always joking! No excuse whatsoever. Not even an apology. As for the drinks, not even a saving grace to receive another star. It was pretty much watered down. There was barely any tea taste. Save your money and go elsewhere. Why adv such promotion if you are going to offer such a subpar product? Isn't the whole point of offering this special is to attract customers to come inside and possibly have repeat customers? There are so many BBT places around the area that you don't have to put up with this kind of arrogant attitude. I got so turned off by the lack of disrespect that I will never go back. I was told by a friend who went there a few times already that the mgr is a much more nicer person and who knows, I would have received a better service and it would have made my exp. different.I regret spending money on the so called drinks as I could have went a few doors down to get a REAL drink. Beware if you get their drinks and do not order any toppings. They might assumed right off the back that you are cheap and do NOT understand that some people actually don't want toppings. There's always both sides to a story, but to publicly call your customers disrespectful and uncultured, What does this say about the business and the people working there? I would never call my customers disrespectful and uncultured, especially in a public forum. But service aside, If you cannot do right on a simple roasted milk tea, then you have failed as a bubble tea shop. There's just way too many way better choices out there. The business owner is right in that this is a board game cafe. So stop serving bubble tea! Charge your customers $1 for a can of pop, or a flat fee for playing boardgames. I was on my way to Dear and Fro Tuesday afternoon when my partner noticed a grand opening special for the large mango juice and roasted milk tea for $2.99 each. I thought it sounded like a good deal, so I made a memo to drop by after desserts next door. We came back about an hour later in the afternoon and the cafe was completely empty minus the actual employees at the time. I ordered the roasted milk tea which based on the picture, I thought would come with the tapioca. The cashier informed me not. I'm not sure if this is mentioned in the fine print but I'd sure hope so to avoid further mishap. I added tapioca for an additional $0.50. My partner got the mango juice and for 2 larges, it came up to just under $8 for both. A pretty good deal imo. We waited about 5 minutes for the drinks to be made. We got them on the go and one of their male employees asked us if we wanted to stick around to play some board games, which I thought was pretty nice of him. As for the drinks themselves, I liked my Roasted MT with tapioca. I guess they improved on their Roasted* taste based on previous reviews because each exhale that followed a sip was aromatic. As for my partner, their mango juice had real mango pulp in it! She said it was "better than Chatime." What a compliment. Cool restaurant with tons of board games; 99% of which I've never heard of but there are some common ones like Scrabble, Monopoly, tons of card decks. They also have bubble tea and desserts. We tried that hot pot dessert that serves 3/4 people. It was good but a few things: The fondue in the middle tasted like Nutella which is concerning because there was no mention of nuts on the menu. Also the fruits given were difficult to dip. Should also have more common fondue things like gram crackers or bananas. Good but can be improved. Also hard to eat the ice cream with the prongs they give. But the cutlery that we asked for was really nice: gold and white. Unintentionally found this place in the plaza while wanting to go to Coco's. Instead, I came in enticed by the 2.99 large bubble tea promotion poster. I came around three weeks ago and at that time, it had just opened and there wasn't much commotion because it was 2 pm in the afternoon. The interior of the cafe is definitely my favorite part - marble tables, cute frames and a wooden floor. Since it is brand new, the place is also very clean. To add to the ambiance of the atmosphere, they should play some music in the background! Unexpectedly, we spent around an hour in the cafe playing cards and it had more than 200 + board games. There were only two tables occupied when we came and the noise level was perfect enough for you to carry a conversation while not being too loud. Since we came around the grand opening, the menu wasn't up on the board yet so we ordered the 2.99$ specials- roasted milk tea. The milk tea itself was good - similar to the Alley in my opinion. I usually get less ice and extra sugar and it was just how I wanted it. It was nothing too excellent but it wasn't bad either. Not sure what the regular price is but for 2.99, it was a good buy. I was told to check out Twilight Cafe while I was visiting Toronto back in January and I don't regret it for a moment. After living in the Bay Area for years and having access to bubble tea and every corner, I wasn't sure what to expect. Their menu is extensive so I just wish that I had a week to sample each one of their drinks. The Red Bean Milk Tea hit the spot during the really cold weather (especially since I've been spoiled with California's warm beach weather) and the Taiwanese Fried Chicken and Takoyaki was soooo good! I'm definitely getting the Fried Fish Cake and Fried Squid Balls next time. If I lived in the area and wasn't in such a rush I would've tried to make a day out of it and have some friends come with me for board games. Big shoutout to Thomas who really made my experience here special. Thanks buddy, keep up the great work. You're a local legend. read more

We went on a weekday and service was extremely slow even though it was not busy. It took 30mins for someone to finally take our orders despite ringing the bell several times....ordering at the cash register would've been faster. The drinks took even longer to come, and were disappointing which was just sad honestly...not even worth the wait. I understand that its main focus is boardgames but if the catch is to order from their menu the drinks and food should at least taste decent. We ordered the mango green tea, blue velvet and original milk tea. The blue velvet is visually appealing and great for pics but it literally just tastes like milk with little to no other flavour. My friend paid over $7 for milk....? I had asked for less sugar for my mango green tea and really would have appreciated if they had informed me that less sugar means it'll just be watered down. Needless to say, we didn't finish those drinks. The boardgames were nice and new but that's not nearly enough reason to return. I'd much rather pay a flat fee somewhere else with drinkable bbt than keep having to be told every 3 hours to order another mediocre food/drink. read more

Policy is to order one item off the menu every 2 hours. I ordered the popcorn chicken but ketchup was an additional 50 cents. Other than that the inside is nice and spacious. Can get pretty loud also read more

Board game selection is okay and the rule of having to order once every three hours isn't bad when you divide the price of a drink (say, $8) over three hours. The quality of the food is a bit of an issue. The bubble tea and tapioca were pretty terrible. The tapioca was so mushy and the flavour of the tea...where was the flavour? The toast tower was much better than the tea, but even that could've been improved by small tweaks. It was far too dry, with too little condensed milk or butter, making half the tower essentially inedible and wasted. That being said, Twilight is an okay spot to hang out and play board games. The tables are big and we never felt rushed despite it being a Friday night. The food is just doodoo, so you should probably eat and mentally prepare yourself for that before going there. read more

Amazing food/service, and the board game collection was extremely fun. The bubble tea they served was amazing at a very reasonable and cheap price. Very fast service even when it is a Saturday night and is a long line up. Twilight is not a place to walk away from. read more

Let's just say, there are already great places at the Finch and Midland area. Bland drinks and small portions with rude staff who will harass you on Yelp will definitely keep me away. My brother picked up the vanilla milk tea for me and it was lacking a bit of tea flavour. Obviously the bigger chains like Chatime do have their drinks perfected, but maybe revisiting the recipe could help a lot. I guess their main focal point are the board games, which they do have a large variety of. There are also some questionable reviews on both Yelp and Google Reviews about this place being amazing with nice staff and a "handsome owner". If you're going to get your friends or staff to write reviews, at least make them believable. Not sure if this is true or not, but I guess if customers feel strongly about their opinion, then they are allowed to say those things. Update: manager or owner left a "compliment" and sent a message explaining the situation in a professional way which was a nice change from previous comments written. He accused me of not trying the drinks and only defending someone else who had a bad experience, but I actually have tried their vanilla milk tea when they first opened and totally forgot (always wanted to review but never really used Yelp and finally got around to downloading it). read more

The service in this place is honestly garbage. I don't normally give reviews, much less 1 star reviews, but this boardgame cafe only owns up to one part of their name: game, since all they do is play their customers. They talk down to customers and are generally super rude -- even online! If you check any reviews that are 1 star, their replies are all excuses or are offensive comments. It is very rare that they ever apologize and acknowledge their wrongdoing although bonds with customers are what sustain their business. It is extremely disappointing as well to see employees (Thomas Y., Who is mentioned to be an employee in other customer reviews and also in replies from the owner) play acting as a customer and responding to reviews by calling people names using homophobic slurs and saying they are "cheap ungrateful kids that don't understand business policies" and should "grow up". It's disgusting how you insult people reviewing your business objectively with personal problematic attacks and it seems that the only people that need to "grow up" is the condescending and frankly ludicrous "twilight family." What business bans a group of "ungrateful kids" that still paid money for what they bought for leaving reviews that expressed dissatisfaction and warned potential goers of your cafe of additional fees? Not only does this sound like censorship but it also sounds like you are intentionally scamming people who are unaware you charge extra for things boardgame cafes don't charge for usually (aka the boardgames) and are now angry that you have been exposed online. Through responses to reviews and the rude service in the cafe itself, I can promise that this cafe will no longer receive my business nor those of my friends. Goodnight, and grow up. read more
