Very nice time at karkumi cafe. I went here for brunch with my boyfriend. For food we got the chicken and waffles and their big breakfast (its served in a dim sum tray so cute). I would really recommend their big breakfast as it comes with garlic bread, sweet potato fries, a salad and egg in the style of your choice. Service was very generous and speedy. I visited Karkumi Cafe on a weekday to catch up with friends, and it turned out to be a lovely place for a relaxing gathering. It's located in a quiet plaza with plenty of convenient parking, which makes it an easy meeting spot. There were outdoor patio, I think they might have outdoor seating available during summer and the café itself has a clean, minimalist design with a cozy, artistic atmosphere. The large floor-to-ceiling windows let in lots of natural light, making the space feel bright and comfortable. The menu offers a good variety of food and drinks, especially coffee. You can tell that care has gone into both the presentation and preparation of the dishes, and the ingredients are of good quality. Everything we ordered was well made and enjoyable. Overall, the service was good. However, there was one male staff member whose attitude and facial expressions could definitely be improved. My first experience with him almost made me decide not to return. Fortunately, on my second visit he wasn't there, and the overall experience was much more pleasant. Because of the convenient location and comfortable atmosphere, I'd still be happy to meet friends here again. One thing to keep in mind is that weekends can get quite busy and noisy, so if you're looking for a quieter experience, weekdays are definitely the better choice. read more

I've visited this place a couple of times now, and both the food and service have been consistently impressive. Everything comes out well-prepared, and the staff is attentive, which makes each visit enjoyable. The Mixed Berry Croffles with ice cream were a standout. Beautifully presented and just as delicious as they looked. The contrast of the crisp croffle with the cool ice cream and fresh berries made it a memorable dessert. We were driving past recently and noticed this place. I think it used to be a skewers place. We decided to try their brunch menu today. Ambiance: 4/5 - we went around 11:30am and it was packed. Since we didn't have a reservation, we did have to wait a bit. It is a small cafe. They have more smaller tables which can be easily rearranged to larger tables. It gets very noisy very quickly. Service: 4.5/5 - other than the wait time in the beginning, it was good. They checked in on us quite a bit and was attentive. The have us plates to share. One of the plates was a little dirty. They changed it quickly and apologized. I also left something and didn't realize until one of the servers waved me down just as we were about to drive off. Super grateful for him! Food: 4/5 - they have both a physical menu and a QR code to order food. We used the QR code. The table next to us were given the physical menu. One side is in English. The other side is in Chinese. The servers working today can speak in Cantonese. We ordered the smoked duck breast benedict, chicken croffles and a hot hojicha latte. The smoked duck breast was the most flavourful of it all. The Hollandaise sauce was interesting. There's a flavor in it that I can't put my hand on. The chicken croffles was also good. It was my first time having croffles. The place was clean, when we got there , the place was half filled but packed by time we left. The PurpleYam Latte was delicious art. Great to look at but even better to drink. The Truffle Mushroom Benedict was fire and now I want it every morning. A friend of mine recommended Karkumi Cafe so you know I had to try it out! Arrived at about 12pm on a Sunday and was able to get a table for 2 right away. They do have an online waitlist on Google Maps, and strongly recommend that you do that for bigger tables as it was quite busy and I did see that larger tables had to wait a bit. Most of their tables were smaller - I only saw one table available for 6 but they may have just combined 2+4 person tables. Parking is also not the best. My fiance wasn't really hungry so we shared an app and a main together. I also got a black sesame latte and really enjoyed that - probably one of the better ones in the GTA. We shared the sweet potato fries that came with some cheese and spicy mayo, which was alright. Nothing too special about it but they were more than happy to give us additional mayo when requested. We also got the croque madame which was very delicious. There was a bit too much of the sauce for my preference since it made the toast a bit soggy (which I don't prefer) and it leaked onto the salad (though it still did taste fine with it). The ham has a smoky taste to it and was toasted to perfection! Love the chic white interior design with abstract art, fake greenery and grey chairs. It all blends together nicely. Even the washroom was not overlooked. They open until 4pm on the weekdays and until 8pm on the weekends. Opened in Jan 2024, the menu offers small/light bites, brunch classics (think eggs bennies), and pastas. There is only indoor seating which seats about 40-50 customers. The entrance is not accessible as there are a few steps to navigate. My friend and I dined at Karkumi Cafe on a Monday late morning. The restaurant wasn't busy and I was able to get a table right away. The menu is available via a QR code on the table. To order, you are also able to place your order on their website which eliminates the need for you to call a server over. However, they do have physical menus and staff to order from as well if you prefer that. We ordered the following items: - Cortado - Chicken croffles (crispy fried chicken w/ croffles and maple syrup) - Crispy chicken pasta with basil pesto sauce (baby spinach, basil pesto sauce, and crispy chicken thigh topped with parmigiano). Food wise, our items were prepared at a reasonable time. We never felt rushed to leave as the place was not busy. In regards to the cortado, it was average. I'd say if you really want good coffee, this is not the place to order one unless you're desperate for a caffeine hit. My chicken croffles is what you'd expect it to taste like. There were 4 pieces of fried chicken (with a side of spicy mayo) and 3 pieces of croffle. Overall, decent dish. The fried chicken was crispy and the croffles were tasty. Hot Purple Yam Latte This started off great, it looked nice and purple, and I could actually taste the yam. No latte art, but that's expected with a takeout cup. My only issue was the texture. As I got further down, it started separating, and by the time I hit the bottom, it was super thick and goopy. Not sure if that's just how they make it or if I got a weird batch, but I hope it was a one-off. I'd still try it again, though, and I'm curious about their other lattes. The honeycomb and crème brûlée sound solid, and if they ever make a peach latte, I'm all over it. Honey Garlic Wings w/ Lemon For $11, the portion looked decent at first, but then I noticed they cut the wingettes in half. Probably why they came out in under 10 minutes. You get 4 whole wings, split into 3 pieces each. I wasn't expecting much, but these were actually amazing--crispy, juicy, and packed with garlicky, honey-glazed goodness. There is also a fairly sized lemon wedge if you like a little tang. I'd definitely get these again! Iced Honey Lemon Red Tea Not the usual HK-style honey lemon tea that I love BUT I did enjoy this. It's got limes and lemons, which adds a different kind of tartness that works well with the honey. It was refreshing and sweetness as is was good (as someone that normally gets less sugar). I'd order it again. Side of Garlic Potatoes This one was a miss. The potatoes were dry and way too hard, and the garlic flavor wasn't really there. It seemed like they just used garlic powder instead of fresh garlic, which was disappointing, especially after how good the wings were. If they crisped them up more and maybe added some garlic butter or a dipping sauce, it could be way better. The service was friendly, and the space was clean with plenty of seating, making for a comfortable visit. Parking is limited but available for free. I'd definitely come back to try more, especially if they ever add a peach latte to the menu. Online ordering is available! Overall, this was a 4.5/5 experience for me rounded up. read more

We ended up getting two pastas, beef short rib benny, and a fried chicken sando. For drinks we got an iced americano, flat white, and blue butterfly pea latte. My beef short rib benny was nice and I really enjoyed the potatoes. The linguine was Al dente and had a nice amount of toppings. Sadly the chicken sandwich was very sad. It's a new brunch spot in Markham (close to J Town) that I have discovered recently! It's decorated in a camping theme, several camping chairs are placed in front of the entrance for pictures and queue. So my favourite will be the all day breakfast, placed in a Chinese style dim-sum basket the sweet potato is amazing and the scramble egg was just right!!! A friend and I tried this restaurant for brunch on a weekday afternoon. It's pretty nice at 12pm as there's fewer people making it a nice spot to catch up over brunch. It was nice and open with lots of natural lighting. We ordered the fried chicken and croffle and creamy mushroom linguine with black truffle sauce. The fried chicken looked a bit dark and dry, but luckily it was juicy inside and the flavour was good, the salad would have been nice with more than one type of green. The exterior doesn't do this new brunch spot that opened a month ago. As you walk in, it's so nice and relaxing. A hidden gem for sure! The service was so nice and friendly. Attentive but yet don't rush you. During soft opening they offer 10% discount until further notice and unlike many other restaurants, you can pay with your credit card with this discount. If you're always out brunching like me, you have to give Karkumi Cafe a try! Their menu is very diverse, with the brunch staples such as eggs Benny and chicken and waffles (croffles here), but also items such as pasta and pizza. We got the following: - Chicken Croffles - Spicy Shrimp Linguine - Crème Brûlée Latte - Tiramisu Latte The chicken was crispy yet light and I loved the combination of the crunch with the croffles layers. The pasta had a nice spicy kick with bacon, mushroom, alongside the shrimp. The two lattes were very unique and the tiramisu one even included a ladyfinger biscuit. There is ample parking around and while they don't have an online waitlist, you can call in to join the queueing if it gets busy. Another tip: credit is accepted, but there is a 10% cash discount as well! The staff were so kind, attentive, and checked in on us often to make sure everything was fine. Even they though they replaced, we found it pretty bland. The potatoes were nice and garlicky! Salad was fine nothing special though Tiramisu latte ($6 hot)- fine nothing special. Looked great but tasted like a latte but with more cold foam Creme Brulee ($6 hot)- Was expecting a brulee crack but it didnt have this. First off, I am flabbergasted that this place hasn't gotten more traction online! I randomly stumbled on it looking for a place to eat on a Saturday noon. When we got there, it was quite full - there were a lot of seats but loud and full of energy! We were the first on the waitlist so we were actually seated quite promptly (we didn't know at the time, but you can call ahead and they can hold your spot - I assume this will grow into a more robust waitlist as they become more popular). We ordered the following: - Chicken croffles: If you've never had a "croffle" before, it's a hybrid between a croissant and a waffle. Often, I struggle having chicken waffles due to its heaviness, but the croissant-like texture made the dish much less dense and so much better! The chicken was reminiscent of Taiwanese fried chicken - also juicy and crispy! Comes with a side salad, spicy mayo, and maple syrup. 9/10 - Spicy shrimp linguine: Looks unassuming at first, but I thought there must be a reason why it's recommended. Sauce wasn't very spicy but definitely a slow build. I was impressed at how many shrimp there were too. It could've used a bit more seasoning though - nothing the salt and pepper at the table could not fix! 8/10 - Tiramisu latte: Comes with a light dusting of cocoa powder. Not very sweet but I expected a bit of a "cheese foam" taste (like the mascarpone cheese in tiramisu) which very slightly disappointed me. This was all remedied by a ladyfinger biscuit which was delicious dipped in the coffee though! 8/10 - Creme brulee latte: This has a bit of a burnt top which I thought was unique! Sweet like the real deal too. 9/10 Overall, this place is so impressive - and they just opened not that long ago! It's in a very lowkey location but I think they have huge potential. I definitely want to come back and try some other items on their menu, like the BBQ eel pizza, half and half toast, big breakfast, and beef short ribs eggs benedict. Their drinks are also unique and unlike other cafes I've been to. Very good value for the amount of food you're getting (and a 10% cash discount as well!). Service was attentive and prompt as well! Was looking for a new brunch place to try with a girlfrd and came across Karkumi. Cute medium sized shop located at Gordon Baker/Victoria Park (next/close to Petro). Warning: very limited parking, but luckily there's only 1 restaurant next door and I think they're usually not busy until night time. It could also get quite loud and noisy when the restaurant gets full and you do have to kinda 'yell' at each other a bit. They take reservations, so it's better to call and reserve if you have an idea when you want to go. We ordered a smoked salmon eggs benedict, french toast, a hojicha latte & black sesame latte. My girlfriend said she's had better hojicha latte elsewhere. I should've asked for less sugar in my black sesame latte as it was on the sweet side (no wonder there's an option LOL). I got the omelette with beef patty. Inside the omellette there is purple rice along with a slight salty sauce. I could not derive what the sauce consist of, it was slightly fatty, slightly salty but not overly salty that you can taste it. The entire meal have a very "healthy" vibe, nothing was too sweet, or too salty.... it is almost... bland? But there is flavor. We also order the chamomile tea, the tea have a very good smell as they put some flower into it, there is also a slight sweet taste. The restaurant doesn't place too many tables to maximize the capacity unlike other cafes so that it felt very cosy and specious regardless of the size of the cafe. We ordered eel BBQ pizza, duck breast egg Benedict, lava cake, mix fruits tea and cream brulee latte. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food.
