A very welcome addition to the neighborhood, we've been eyeing this place for a few months now as it's always busy with people playing board games, enjoying a meal, or even studying on their laptops. We finally decided to see what it was all about. Their menu is a bit overwhelming, I think they are trying to be an all day brunch place but also include small snacks and drinks for the board game cafe side of things. We ended up asking how much the minimum spend was for board games and it is $10 a person before taxes and tips. Their menu seems to be strategically priced so you basically have to get a food item and drink item to meet the spend, as most drinks hover around $7-8 and most food is not quite the right price to make it $20 total! For our first visit, we ended up spending quite a bit more than expected and getting chicken and waffles, nachos (which ended up being fries), and a pitcher of juice. The waffle and fries are recommended, but the nachos are a pass for me. They have a large variety of games and we ended up playing one for the entire time. It was a bit hard because of how loud some of the other tables were though - I think this can be an improvement point since they were screaming at some points and no one said anything. I don't think it would have been unreasonable for staff to address it. It is a hard because as a cafe they are doing so many things - a study spot, date spot, and board game spot - that everyone is working at different volumes on different things. We will definitely be back, but it would be nice to have an option to pay just to do the board games. I don't need food or a beverage every time.

Hit up A Corner Cafe last year to play some board games. The place has a fun, well-lit interior that's perfect for hanging out with friends. It's pretty much your standard cafe but with a cool vibe. We tried the Oreo waffle while we were there--yummy, but nothing extraordinary. They've got a good selection of games to choose from, which kept us entertained. Also, when one of my friend's phone died, the staff was nice enough to let her charge it behind the cashier, which was really helpful. Overall, it's a great spot to chill and hang out, especially if you're looking to play some board games and relax with friends.

Corner cafe is the perfect spot for brunch! Their menu offers brunch items but with an Asian flare! They have hand crafted drinks, bubble tea and freshly squeezed juice too. Come catch up with friends or grab a board game to play! I got fried chicken eggs Benedict and a Vietnamese latte. Other things ordered was fried chicken and waffles, duck breast eggs Benedict and pork belly and waffles. Everything tasted great, I think the drinks were a bit expensive. Service was pretty quick and I love the decorations inside!

Love this place! A board game Cafe with drinks and food, they have a minimum spend of $10 per person if you're going to be playing games. They have a great selection and I've gotten a chance to play some really interesting games! Had their brunch this time, really enjoyed the smoke salmon eggs Benny. Eggs were poached well and the potatoes were well seasoned. The table next to us got a pitcher of fruit tea that looked pretty good so will make sure to try that next time. Definitely recommend as it's a great spot for a night with friends!

Needed to find breakfast in North York and decided to try the brunch menu at A Corner Cafe in the Willowdale neighbourhood. I have been to the location in Markham and wanted to see if there were any differences. The restaurant is huge with plenty of seating. I came on a Saturday morning and it was a little short-staffed so service was a little slower than we'd like. However, the staff were very nice and apologized multiple times for the delays in getting their attention. I ordered the chicken and waffles, which came with a spring mix on the side. The chicken was fresh and the waffles were crisp. The chicken tasted a lot like the salt and pepper chicken you would find at a Taiwanese restaurant. Overall, I enjoyed the meal but it was on the pricier side, which I guess comes with the location!

It is surprisingly good breakfast with it was 168 tea . The deep fried chicken Benedict is perfectly done. I even order broccoli soup and seafood with squid black pasta during breakfast. They are all taste good. This was a busy Mother's Day breakfast morning. The service is good although there is only 1 server. The decorations in the restaurant is simple and casual. There are few bike in the middle of the restaurant. I wonder if the owner like to bike? As it is located on Yonge, you can only park on the street. I like to go in the Sunday morning as the parking is free until 1pm

We dropped by to try out their brunch since the previous visit was solely for working and only spoke to the drinks. This visit was very mixed and left me disappointed. FOOD (1/5) We ordered the Bacon Benny (benedict) and Piggy Benny which both come served with a house salad and homefries. Starting with the good: The salad was lightly dressed but worked well, and the homefries were crispy although could use more salt or seasoning. The piggy benny had a nice marinade on the pork. Now the sad downsides: The poached egg was simultaneously overcooked but undercooked and wasn't pat dry as there was lots of water that dripped into the muffin. The hollandaise was also quite runny and underseasoned. The biggest issue for us was that the himeji mushrooms used overpowered the entire dish and resulted in an earthy and heavy palate with no acidity to balance. Sadly bacon also wasn't crispy. DRINKS (5/5) As said in the previous review, drinks were solid. Iced Viet Latte and regular Iced Latte are both great options. SERVICE (2.5/5) This visit was plagued with service issues, but I can chalk it up to understaffing. As we walked in staff told us to have a seat an a vacant table. But we sat around for almost 10 minutes before being acknowledged with a menu and water. Drinks also took a noticeably longer time to be served. PRICE (2.5/5) I think the price for the food is normally pretty standard, but for the dishes served, I think it doesn't warrant the prices. Drinks are well worth the price! OVERALL (1.5/5) I'll give the benefit of the doubt and say poorer service this visit was due to understaffing, and that I selected food items not suited for my palate. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth (literally as well) and will come by another time to try other brunch dishes to see if it can be redeemed. Be weary of the food items you order, but drinks are great!

It's a cozy little cafe on Yonge Street. I came during Christmas and their decorations were very cute. Latte was great. I was able to taste the flavour of the beans. Highly recommended. Smoke salmon egg Benny was pretty good too. Food came out hot and fresh even though only one staff took care of the front.

3.5 I think, at this time, I prefer their other location in Markham a little more. I was quite happy they opened this North York location. I went recently during the heat wave days and it was a sauna in the restaurant. There was no ventilation and no air and it was just a very sweaty lunch hour. The restaurant was half filled and most had already ordered and were eating already.  I ordered the pork rice bowl and the server was not very friendly. He asked me what base I would like for the bowl and I mean the menu does not specify so how would I know what I can pick from? Anyway, when I proceeded to ask oh what bases are there? He curtly said rice or salad. I politely asked if I can do half rice and half salad and he shut me down with a no. It is okay to say no but I did not feel his attitude towards this was necessary. Our food came out pretty promptly and overall no complaints on the food items. Portions were decent and flavours were good.  If I am craving brunch in this area, I might just go to a different place in this area.

Visited this spot after I came in to quickly pick up some bubble tea with a friend - I saw a bunch of board games which drew my attention! So I had to come back again. I tried their chicken & waffles, and their shrimp pasta. Chicken & waffles 3.5/5: the chicken was crispy, tasty, and juicy, paired with the slight crisp and sweet waffle was yummy! Shrimp pasta 4/5: this was the favourite dish out of the two. The pasta was creamy, and the shrimp added a delicious savoury taste. There are a variety of board games. Service was okay!

Found this place while walking down Yonge street this morning, and really loved everything about it. The service was very friendly, the food and drinks were delicious, and they had board games to keep us a little longer.

This place been open for a long time in the area and finally decided to try it out. The food are decent, but other than the rice bowl, the portion is quite small, probably because it's aim to be a breakfast and boardgame place. However the worst thing is that the rice bowl is actually not that great according to my friend, and the omelette isn't as fluffy as I'd like. Worst of all, the service is very slim. When we wanted to play the board games, it took a couple of try to get them to clean the table, so that is quite unfortunate.

Came here for brunch with 3 friends on a Sunday afternoon and we were seated right away. We had a baby with us as well and they were very accommodating with the space and gave us a high chair. We got the chicken waffles, pork belly waffles and eggs bene - all were delicious! The space was quite spacious and they had boardgames there as well!

If you're GF Not Worth Jumping Through the Hoops…read more When I found this place online, I was so excited. When one must follow a gluten-free diet, it is so nice to find places where you can eat what everyone else gets to enjoy. This was anything but enjoyable. I was planning a little Halloween getaway to Kingston and searching for a new and exciting breakfast place to stop on my way there. I found Heaffles and read through their website--I'm always very careful and vet my restaurants before the trip and plan food meticulously, you have to when you cannot eat gluten. The site stated that if you want a gluten free waffle, you must call 24 hours ahead of time. I immediately thought that was ridiculous (that eliminates any possibility of a GF person walk-in from eating there) but messaged them on Instagram. I asked if I could message then and schedule or did a I have to call. They told me I must call the day before. Pain in the bum, but I set a reminder in my phone and did so. The next day, I show up. Such a cute place and the breakfast that kicks off a trip always makes me so happy. We don't eat out much at all, living so rurally. It had also been ages since I'd enjoyed a GF waffle, so excitement was high. This place has a ton of potential. The seating is cute, the bathrooms clean and so beautifully decorated. There is even a little cubby with cushions that would make it feel as though one was having breakfast in bed. I really did fall in love with the space. There didn't appear to me to be a traditional server comes to your table. You walk in and place your order at the counter. I ordered a Flat White to drink along with a water and a gluten-free coconut rush. The young lady at the counter was very quick to tell me that they had a customer coming in to get a GF waffle and that they only had enough batter for one waffle and that I would need to try again and call 24 hours beforehand. Right before I told her I was that customer, my brain was like, what? You have enough batter for ONE waffle??? I make GF stuff all the time. It is NOT that expensive. And what if you mess up that ONE waffle (and they did because she didn't listen to me)? I said, "Oh, I called yesterday." And I had driven a very long way. I would hate for anyone else to do that and end up disappointed. After that, I was allowed to order my waffle. Coconut is my favourite sweet flavour, but it came with strawberries and strawberry syrup. I told her THREE times I didn't want the strawberries or the syrup. Strawberry jam, jelly syrup...I hate them all, also cannot stand cooked fruit. She told me she could put the strawberries on the side and that they were uncooked. I said that was okay, but reiterated AGAIN that I do not want or like the strawberry syrup. I thought I might get my drinks at the counter, but she said they would bring everything to my table. I sat within view of the counter by the window. I assumed, as at most places, the drinks would come out first. I had started on the Terra Health heartburn kit to kick my PPI script and needed to take the supplements before eating. Some ladies came in after me and they got their drink order while I sat and waited. The waffle came out, and I was too panicked by not taking my supplements to pay that much attention and told them I needed some water and that I didn't have my coffee yet. They came back in a few minutes and in the meantime, I saw that the waffle I'd paid nearly $30 for, along with a very tiny flat white coffee, was drenched...every inch in yucky strawberry syrup. I'm a silver lining kind of girl, so I told myself to try it, maybe my tastes have changed. Nope. It was this strong, chemically strawberry flavour that made me gag. Talk about disappointed. At this point it was late in the morning and I was starving. I opened up the waffle (the size, even if they'd managed to listen to my order was not worth what I paid) and ate some of the filling out. The only waffle that had no nasty syrup was at the fold and I ate the four bites I could. The coffee was literally 3 swallows. I left hungry and angry. And in all that time, no one ever came back to ask me how the order was...and I knew I couldn't send it back because that was their ONE GF waffle batter of the day. I had to stop at Wendy's and spend another $10 for a bunless burger after. I would never go back. The ask and not having the batter available is beyond RIDICULOUS, despite the fact they don't listen, which makes a GF person VERY nervous. You couldn't pay me to eat there again. Poor service, poor value and food I couldn't stomach. Not for me.

Wish I knew more about beans, but just from the way they explained calibration and how ambient weather affects the espresso, I felt like I was in good hands. I even several times skipped morning coffee at home to have my first cup here. They try to reflect your energy too, so if you seem like you just want caffeine, they are efficient, but if you initiate conversation, they return the favor. The soups tastes like miso soup that you would buy from the store, very salty. All the seafood are very fishy tasting. Everything is drenched in either a spicy sauce or teriyaki sauce. The taiyaki was crispy on the outside and filled with red bean paste which would taste better if it were a tad bit sweeter. I did enjoy the Bulgogi, Kim-Mari and the spicy ketchup based sauce. There was no line up when we went, staff is friendly but there is a definite language barrier; I had to repeat my orders a number of times. My food was barely warm, maybe it's better during the rush hours. The soups, however, were piping hot! I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.
