Our Aunt and Uncle have been at the Gardens of GreenRidge for almost a year now and we are so…read morepleased to have found this caring home staffed with such competent people. Our Uncle is in the memory unit - he needs a higher level of care and the ability to be kept from wandering away. His wife is literally on the other side of a locked door, able to see him and visit with him at any hour of the day or night - but without the constant worry that he will fall or wander away when she is sleeping. It's a good solution that allows them to be together without worry. Our Aunt is quite mobile, active, and socially engaged. And although neither wanted to leave their home of 60 years, she is no longer lonely, and no longer worries constantly about the ability to care for her husband. When our Aunt took a fall, she was placed in the hospital care portion of the Gardens of GreenRidge next door, and received excellent physical therapy. She is now back up walking around and feeling great. She loves the weekly bath in the deep soaking tub (attended by staff member) and the in-home hair stylist appointment each week. She raves about the meals, and loves seeing so many people she knew from years ago with whom she had lost touch. My husband and I are very pleased that the staff welcomes our visits, never asks us to call ahead, and always seems happy to see us. The facility is brightly lit, well taken care of, and smells fresh. Our Aunt and Uncle have good things to say about everyone and about the facility itself. Yes, they miss living at home, but both seem less stressed and are adjusting to a new style of life. We feel so fortunate that my sister-in-law and her husband found this facility, made the arrangements to have our Aunt and Uncle accepted here, and have a peace of mind that our family is well taken care of. We highly recommend a visit. The only reason I did not rate it 5 star for activities is that I am not aware of any "outings" into the community to go shopping, etc. This would add additional costs, I am sure, but would be a nice bonus.

I can't thank the people who helped him enough...Steven, Candi, Elisa, Eve, Minette, and everyone else whose name I can't remember for their kindness and patience with him and with me as we moved through the journey from assisted living to hospice to the end of his life. It was a very traumatic experience for my loved one and myself. Putting that behind us, we tried to move on, we wanted to go back after a short stay in another facility, I was told by the director, at the Willowbrook, Mary Cook, in no uncertain terms, when asked about the availability of rooms for my loved one, she replied, "We're not taking them back" no other explanation was given. The treatment we have received at this facility from the Director and her assistant has been appalling. No customer service, no personal appeal, no people skills what so ever from this woman! We will be looking elsewhere to place our loved one, and would tell anyone considering this facility for a family member, it's all champagne and roses upon admission, but upon a discharge... it's "leave now!" and "if you don't get the bed out of the room today, you will be charged another month for the room!" No compassion, no regard for the resident or the family. If I had to work for this woman, I'd run after the first interview with her! Run from this facility!!! Poor customer service, poor communication all around! the two star rating is for the hard working caregivers there, and the food service.

The Country House first on the list. My wife and I were impressed as soon as we walked in the door. The place was immaculate. The staff was warm and welcoming. The rooms we were shown were perfectly adequate for my wife's simple needs. But just to make sure that we weren't missing out on an even better option we looked at two other facilities. They didn't come close the Country House. So we paid for 2 weeks care with the option of extending if needed. The bottom line is that my wife who vehemently resisted staying in assisted living felt immediately at ease and within a few days she was fully adjusted, made friends with other residents and, most surprisingly, she loved the food! The nurses were attentive to her needs and responded quickly when my wife presses the help button that she given to wear around her neck. With one minor glitch, they provided her 3 times a day with her medications. My wife has difficulty working her cell phone, so they help make calls. It turned out that I needed two additional weeks before I was ready to resume caring for her at home. She was such good hands that I never had to worry about her. That relief was priceless. It is without hesitation that I give The Country House a 5 star rating.

Due to several upsetting incidents, we asked about placing a camera in their room. We were informed cameras were NOT permitted by Kendal on Hudson (except in independent living). After our loved one passed away, our family arrived to clear out their room in the Sunnyside section and were shocked to find it had been left unlocked since our loved one had been taken into the hospital. Upon entering the room it was obvious many items were missing. We informed the administrator and were treated terribly. Ultimately, the incident was reported to the police. It was an awful time for our family, made so much worse by the treatment we received, and the complete lack of accountability or responsibility for protecting our loved one's property. Kendal's policy of no cameras throughout areas of the care sections, including residents' rooms, allowed them to completely control the narrative. This really made us question some of our earlier concerns. I wish we had a better experience because our loved one sold their family home to enter this facility. Unless Kendal on Hudson has changed their policy, I would suggest you consider a facility with a camera-friendly policy, as it's often the only witness these vulnerable residents have.
