Went 7/26/16, lower falls were flowing very hard due to Darby storm, swam there and was great. Got there at 9:00am and was second person in the water. Even when more crowds showed later was still not too crowded in the water. No bug problem at all. No vehicle theft problem. Easy hike. read more

I don't know why the call them twins?! They aren't even the same size. It rained and was muddy out. There were hippies and kids from the wrong side of the track everywhere. My flip flop broke. The water was cold and clear; I think they bleach it. Maybe it's a side effect of those monsantos. The waterfalls were too loud and a mosquito bit me. My go-to hike in Maui. The trail is not hard at all and the waterfall at the end of the "long" hike is worth the trek. Definitely wear a swimsuit and pack a towel so that you can jump in the waterfall at the end. There are two sections that require you to walk through the river so be prepared with sandals or water shoes to change into if you would like. Also, bug spray is a must since there are lots of mosquitoes. read more

It was our first time here, and the lack of signs or posted information made it confusing. Just a short hike from the main gate, there is a little water fall to the left when you see the portable potties. If you take the left trail, you get to the bottom part of the small waterfall. Very cooling but lots of mosquitoes. But to see the actual twin falls, the hike is 25-30 minutes from the main gate. You have to go past the portable potties, and you have to open a huge brown gate to continue the trail to he twin falls. There is a sign on the brown gate that you need to be an experienced hiker for a 30 minutes hike. It took us about 20 minutes. The beginning portion of the trail is not difficult at all, but the path starts to get narrower and splits due to private farm properties. Make sure you take the far left pathway so that you don't venture to the farm. Then you have to cross some shallow water to continue, and there is no way to cross that small body of water without getting your feet wet. The rocks are slippery, and the water is deep enough to soak your feet. The last portion of the trail is the most confusing part. You come to what looks like an old and abandoned mini dam, and with the plants around, there is no clear pathway. It makes you wonder: now what? So you actually need to climb on the stone wall (about 5 feet from the ground) to continue. There are some worn out steps to get to the top of the wall, and the wall is only two feet wide. So that part is challenging. Then you come to another body of water. You can see the Twin Falls from there, but again, you cannot get to the waterfall without getting your feet wet or having to balance yourself on the slippery rocks. When we went, there was not a whole lot of water, so I was underwhelmed by the twin trickles. It was a lot of work to just see that small streams. But it is kind of neat because there is a cave under the waterfall, and people seem to have fun swimming in the pool in front of the cave. Would I do it again? Probably not. read more

Easy hike to beautiful waterfalls. My husband and brother (local) jumped from the top. You need to jump just in the right spot and tuck in (they still touched the bottom) so I wouldn't recommend many people jump unless experienced. read more

You could easily spend a couple of hours here if you take your time checking out all the different tropical plants, bamboo, flowers and do some cliff jumping and swimming at both the lower and upper waterfalls. Great place to spend a shadey afternoon exploring especially if your not driving to Hana- Support the fruit stand to keep this private property open to the public- snack on homemade banana bread, pineapple popsicles, sugar cane slices coconuts and smoothîes while enjoying this tropical Maui rainforest- prepare for mosquitos and to get wet- rain, swimming and crossing two streams to go all the way to the upper falls- you can barefoot the streams if your tough, easier to wear flip flops or even better water shoes! The "hike" itself was more like walking up a fire road. A few local slow moving cars actually passed us on the "hike". Would be fine for strollers and parents with small toddlers. The waterfall was not as cold as everyone makes it seem. Maybe 68 degrees at the coldest. We were there in December 2014. Flip flops are fine for crossing the stream on the way to the falls. My son and I used the GoPro under the waterfall and we got some great video of the water pummeling us. read more

If you are looking for a close-ish waterfall to check out from Kanaapali, then Twin Falls is it. You get there without the nauseating switch backs within 1 hour. The "hike" itself was not hard at all. If you are looking to go check out the falls and head back out - it took my husband and I 20 minutes to and from the car with a stop for pictures. Personally, I like to work for my waterfalls. I like to wander in the woods and finally get to hear the babbling brooks that tells you that you are closing in. So it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. But hey, I chose not to do the switch backs so it was worth it for me. We went on a day that there was a run so the opening was so crowded we actually ended up missing it. But there is a big sign on the gate that says Twin Falls so any other day it will be right where your GPS drops you. A little bit of advice... if you have the sweet blood like myself, bring bug repellent!!! What I thought was water splashing on my legs ended up being 23+ mosquito bites within 20 minutes. read more

I would call this more of a forest stroll than a hike; it took us just an hour and a half to cover most of the trails, including going up to the top of one of the falls. The trails are lined with tropical fruit and flowers. The terrain is sometimes muddy or uneven and there are some old waterworks you have to scrabble over so real hiking shoes are a help, but mostly it's s short wander around the woods and several sections of really nice waterfalls. If you come prepared, it is fairly easy to get to the pools underneath the falls for a dip, although the day we were there it had just rained and the pools looked more like mud baths than swimming holes. I found it easier to park in the lot across the bridge instead of trying to crowd into the lot at the trailhead. read more

Good hike for all ages because it's relatively short. Waterfall at the end is well worth it. You have to wade through ankle high water in a small stream right before you get to the waterfall so dress accordingly. read more

Keep valuables locked in trunk or bring them with you. There are signs all over warning of car break-ins. At least seven break-ins in the 3 days prior to us visiting. Our vehicle and another just a few vehicles down had a front window broken to grab whatever was quick and easy to take and run. Luckily, the thieves skipped the higher value items in the glove box or trunk to grab a change of clothes from me and a diaper bag from the other guy. A nice easy hike, but be warned and park within sight of the fruit stand/entrance. When the police came to investigate/report the incidents; they mentioned to me that they just busted a group of thieves a few months prior and as soon they get out of jail; they end up continuing the same crimes. The police described it as "a revolving door" for these same criminals. Stay Aloha, but be skeptical.. Criminals are present in every tourist location. read more

Before I chose to do any activity with my kids, I yelped it to see if it was suitable. Here are my thoughts based on our recent experience with our kids. Hope it helps! Here are some tips: 1. Buy the banana bread BEFORE you trek to the waterfalls. They will be sold out once you get back! 2. Use a bathroom before you get there. The one porta-potty has no tissue. But here is a tip within a tip: someone in my party ripped a paper out of a book. 3. Don't bother asking people along the road, "how long till we get to the waterfall?" Everyone I asked gave me a different answer. It's all relative. You get there, when you get there. 4. You would be wise to use mosquito repellent. OFF has DEET. We went to Longs and found Organic bug repellent in the "Hawaiian Product"section. Here are some tips for families with small children (we had ages 4,6,7,8) who walked through steady rain to get there: 1. The entire walk is not suitable for 4 years and younger. Just know that you will be carrying your child at some point. There are a few places that can be questionable when walking to the falls. For instance, you have to go up a few steps and walk a few steps on a wall (sounds worse than I am describing) but if you walk slow and steady you will be fine. And go slow in the water, the rocks are slippery. 2. Bring towels. The water is cold. They will complain. Bring towels. And banana bread (see above). 3. If they are coordinated, they can make it through the water but flip flops will slip off. So just walk slow. Crocs work (with the band behind the foot) and will keep their shoe in place. Crocs over flip flops. And a bunch of people had tennis shoes which does not make sense. They will get wet. I even saw people take their shoes off. Should you buy water shoes? Up to you but we didn't. Travelling: Took about an hour from Kaanapali to Twin Falls. The Twin Falls experience (walking and swimming) took about two hours. We were hungry and were planning to eat in Paia but decided to go back and not get stuck in traffic back to Kaanapali. We stopped and ate at Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop (that's where it can get backed up) which was the best decision. We had plenty of time to get back to our resort and warm our bodies in the jacuzzi and go swimming at the pool. read more

FOOTWEAR ALERT: wear Keen's or some kind of WATER SHOES for this simple hike. This is a very simple walk through the forest and no technical expertise needed. My 6 year old walked it, even through an area that warned us that it was advanced, with no problems. Here is the deal if you are looking to see a waterfall: there are several points where you will have to remove your sneakers because the little river in front of you will soak your shoes if you wear them. No bueno. If you are wearing water shoes/aqua socks/Vibram 5 Fingers, or even flip flops: you can easily cross. THE ROCKS ON THE FLOOR OF THE RIVER HURT LIKE CRAZZZZY if you are barefoot. It is almost excruciating if you do it like I did barefoot. This place is pretty and is a nice place for pictures. The walk along the trail is easy. If you wear the footwear I described, you will have NO issues. Again, easy for kids older than 5 years old (younger than that: they might whine). read more

We really enjoyed this trail. We found the warnings on the gate to be a bit strong, but we are also frequently hike strenuous trails. I highly recommend well-fitting waterproof sandals with thick soles i.e. chacos. I saw several people doing this trail in flip flops who then turned around when they reached the water. Bug spray is a must. Especially after you get out of the water, the bugs are everywhere. read more

Very pretty views. Little bit of a walk, through trails and through some creeks. Some of the water at the creeks may be about knee high. I would suggest wearing water shoes or shoes you dont mind getting messed up and wet, cause they will get wet. No way around it. Waterfalls are very pretty. Wear a bathing suit if you want to go for a swim, few places to go for a swim. Water is a bit dirty though. Also a few places to jump off the cliffs into the water. read more

If you are traveling on the Road to Hana, Twin Falls has to be one of your stops. Twin Falls is very relaxing and an awesome view of a waterfall. There is a fruit stand at the entrance of the trail. They sell coconuts, smoothies, snacks, and other items for a small fee. You walk for about 1 mile on the trail before you reach the waterfall. The trail is not strenuous at all but there are some increase in grades for a short amount of time. This spot gets packed later in the day so I suggest going early in the morning if you want the area for yourself. I tested the layout of the waterfall and found out how the layout of it is. There are rocks all around the waterfall so you can approach it on either side in the water. When you get to the area where water is falling, it is deep. Take your time navigating through the water and wear water shoes. The rocks are slippery so sandals might not do the trick. Have a blast! read more

This is definitely an easy hike worth going to. It is one of the first stops along the road to Hana. However, since we were staying close by we decided to come back a separate day for this. Make sure you get there early as the parking lot does fill up. The hike is free and it is pretty easy. There is a part you have to go through a very shallow stream. We just took off our shoes and socks, but if someone brought sandals it would be easier. The hike is not strenuous at all and is pretty well shaded. At the end you see a beautiful waterfall. We didn't bring bathing suits and the water was a little cold for us, but if one came prepared it would be really cool to wade into the water. At the entrance of the park where the parking lot is, there is a great fruit stand. We bought pineapple smoothies at the end of our walk and ended up getting seconds. I think the whole thing took us an hour and we took our sweet time. read more

I'm 6.5mo pregnant and have a 5yo. You can make this short hike as easy or as difficult as you want. Its not so much a 5 star waterfall as it is a 5 star experience. We hiked to the top of the waterfall for fun then back down to wade in the pool a bit. Great for the much needed waterfall photo op with minimal effort. read more

Nice easy hike. Mostly flat. It takes about 20 - 30 minutes depending on witch trail you go on. Swimwear and water shoes or flip-flops suggested because there is water about 2.5 feet deep and at the end there is a waterfall that you can swim in. There is a little stand that sells drinks but you can bring your own food and drinks. read more

In the old days was a Twin Falls as a local hideaway, now just FILLED with tourists. No peace and quiet to enjoy the spot...

The falls are beautiful and are next to a farm ( where you cannot go ). The hike itself is very short but it gives you a feeling of a real Tropical forest. ( something like the tropical forests in the Animal Kingdom @ Disneyworld - but real ). You can take pictures of banana trees, bamboos and a host of other vegetation. The water itself was very soothing. Be prepared to get your shoes and feet soaked in mud. We did not have any bug spray, neither did we feel the need. We enjoyed cane juice, coconut water and the banana bread at the fruit stand outside which was very refreshing read more
