I have played both twin lakes the lakes course and the oaks course. They are in great condition. They have a nice club house and the range is nice as well. I walked the first time I played and rode the cart with my buddy this time. It's walkable if you're up for it. They have a small restaurant serving hot dogs, burgers and drinks. Nice view of the course from the restaurant. The course was in great condition when I played. It's one of the nicest public courses in the area and very hard to get tee times if you miss booking at the right time. read more

Two 18 hole courses the Lakes is more forgiving in that it is more open to wayward tee shots the Oaks more demanding. The price is fair considering the conditions. Be prepared to be frustrated by the "I don't give a F" attitude of folks that work there. Really dumb policy regarding frost delays, no water on the course on an 80 degree day, nobody monitoring pace of play. Pretty sure the folks in charge don't play golf because if they did they'd care more about the end user experience. This place could be so much better than it is. If you want a great golf experience go a mile down the street to Westfields and pay twice as much. read more

This a very popular public course. They have a nice driving range and a couple of nice putting/chipping areas. Nice club house with a snack bar with a seating area with a view. The outdoor seating is open but indoor is not. They have 2 18 hole courses: The Oaks and the Lakes. The Oaks is narrow with more trees. The Lakes is a little wider with more water hazards. It's a long somewhat hill course, so I recommend a cart for 18. I usually walk when playing 9. This course is enjoyable year round except you tend to lose more balls in the winter because of the trees. read more

Note: Review for mainly the Oaks Course. I cannot believe it took me this long to play this track. Well worth the money. Played the Oaks course which starts and ends on tough but wonderful notes. First two, the 10th, and holes 13 to 18 are standouts to me. All are tough but all reward good shots. There are some boring ones mixed in but that finish here is fantastic. There may be some drainage issues here and there and the greens can be boring at times, but I really enjoyed my round here. Lots of trees of course but it is very playable under them depending on where you are. Just a well laid out course and it was in pretty good shape in the middle of the summer. I hear the Lakes course is a little more wide open and playable for everyone. Range was fine and the starter was nice enough. I will definitely be back. read more

Is usually a nice kept course, all around. Cons are very long rough, makes it very difficult to find your ball, which makes the place of play slow. I only found some balls when i stepped on them. Do like the course, and will be back. read more

This is one of my favorite courses. I had some open time on an early week day morning so I just walked on. They paired me with 2 others who rode a cart. The walk around the course for 9 holes was really nice. Staff is always friendly and the course is a 'real' course. I had no choice but to review Twin Lakes again. Been a 8 times per year player for the past 5 years. For the money, this is a terrific muni course. The Lakes Course was upgraded last fall (specifically the bunkers) and it was in pristine condition in November. The Oaks is the more difficult challenge but genuinely a good looking, well kept track. As for those folks who don't like the service provided, how about growing up? Are you aware that most if not all of these guys and gals are not getting paid a cent? They're putting in the hours to gain access to the course. Honestly, I've never had a single service issue other than some mild confusion about which shack (the lower or the upper) to notify that I'm ready to roll. The range is underwhelming but I'm not going to be stingy with a proper muni course Yelp rating because the grass is not Augusta level quality on the range. For the record, I'm a 13 handicap, play to the rules and save my imbibing for the 19th. Perhaps that's what's troubling the sour pusses who unload on a good course. read more

I have played over 30 rounds at Twin Lakes. There are two courses. The Lakes is the oldest one. If you are looking for a wide open track, this course is very golfer friendly for people who spray the ball. The Oaks is a tighter course with more challenging holes. I find both courses easy to play. The greens get a lot of feet on them, very bumpy rolls when putting. I'd like to see more sand in the traps and someone tell super to roll the greens. There is a pro shop, cafeteria type food, beer, and putting/driving range. Walker friendly. read more

We had a nice day here. We didn't have to wait around much for other people during a summer afternoon. We kicked off at 3:54pm and barely finished as they were blowing the horn for the sun being down (8:30pm?). Staff seemed friendly and were acting reasonable in these COVID times. I Played here the first time and probably last, could have rated 4-5 stars because of the course but the staff at the counter and the starter nailed it . I walked up and they was like " what is it?" In stead of " Hi how are you, how could i help you with?" Which is a very normal way to greet your customer, customers paid their money to relax and get away from stressful daily life but not here, here at Twin Lake you got some "spits" on your face twice before you can play. read more

I don't know how expensive normal golf courses are but man, $40 to play with an electric cart? And that's only nine holes (no military discount btw). Also, if you are playing with friends, even if you are riding passenger in the golf cart you still have to pay $40... Just for nine holes. Golf course if kept pretty well, some fairways are pretty thick but it's still very playable. Staff - The past three times I've played here I have had a negative encounter, very rude tones have been expressed towards me. When I played today, I was told to have my cart back in two hours, nothing over. Who plays nine holes in two hours? read more

To the guy working the pro shop last night: sorry! I showed up at 7:15p. Wanted to get a range session in. He says range closed early for maintenance. I was a little mad. Typically hit Oak Marr, which is 15 minutes closer (to me). But sometimes l mix it up at Twin Lakes (better short game area and great views). Anyway, I asked to use the SG area instead. He politely said yes. Then I thought, maybe I can pay for nine and get seven or eight holes in. I went back in, and he told me I could play a few holes--no charge. This isn't something they (or any course) does often. So I was super appreciative. The only catch he said was to "be in by dark." I didn't think much of it. The dark would stop my play naturally. And I didn't take a cart out. I went out, played several holes, and took dusk down to the wire. When I got back, I was one of only three cars left in the lot. I see the guy race out of the pro shop, into his car, and speed away. Wasn't sure if he was waiting for me, or if it was coincidental timing. I put my clubs away, and sat in my car for a good 15 minutes. Was resting from the round and catching up on texts and email. To my surprise, the guy came back and knocked on my window, saying "You gotta go, buddy. I gotta lock the gate." I felt horrible. It didn't cross my mind that the course was gated in, and he needed me to leave. Felt esp. bad since he did me a favor earlier and let me play. So yeah. He was pretty pissed--but still pretty nice about it. As for the actual courses/facilities, I'd echo a lot of what's been said here. Lakes course is in solid shape and wide open. Fun course if you're not super accurate or working on your swing. Oaks course is a little nicer, harder, and less foot traffic. Probably better for single-digit handicappers. I'm a ~10 and get enjoyment out of both. Just depends on my mood and how well I'm playing. Price-wise, it's maybe $10 or $15 more than it should be (IMO). But all-in-all, great golf spot. read more

Twin Lakes Golf Course is by far one of the best public golf course in Northern Virginia. Laurel Hills is number one. Twin lakes features two 18 holes courses, the lakes and the oaks. The lakes is a little easier than the oaks. Both courses are in great shape.. read more

Course is normally in good condition. Staff has gotten better with their customer service in recent months. My only complaint here is that the ground crew seems to have total disregard for players. They drive work carts all around the players when you're over your shot. read more

You have to rate things for what they are: This is a municipal golf course. For that it's excellent. In Fairfax, golf tends to be on the expensive side. Pleasant Valley wanted $67 - for a twilight rate!... With Twilight rates of only $30 walking, I was excited and ready to go. (It's $17 more for riding.) With its beautiful views, well kept fairways, (carts come with actual green divot repair sand) this place is a good value. We'll kept course (except for the sand, which was really just from the rain_ - most NoVA courses under $80/round have "dirt" sand, that I generally just pick up from. These guys have actual sand. Greens still showed some signs of aration, but overall they are kept clean. Pro shop guy was friendly as was the starter. I played the Oaks course, which now that I've straightened out my drive, was moderately narrow and actually fun (for higher handicappers, recommend the Lakes course.) Also, the greens on the Oaks course had some undulations that made for a good challenge. Twin Lakes has 36 holes - One course named Lakes, the other is called Oaks.I will say I was tired by the end of walking all 18 on the Oaks. However, next time, I'll likely rent a hand cart. There are nice changes in elevation, several places where you'll be hitting above/below your feet if you don't hit it just right. Overall, a really good golf course! It was so pretty, actually whipped out my cell camera and took a picture on 17th hole; it was a really zen experience - (maybe just cause I live in DC, and it's nice to see nature)-- and it's nice not to be playing East Potomac Golf Couse (Haynes Point) for a change. read more

I probably play golf here (on the Oaks course) 25-30 times a year -- it is one of the best courses in the area for the money. It can have some of the muni issues (slow play) -- but is usually in very good condition and a very accurate test of golf -- playable, but pretty difficult -- long and fairly open. My only complaint is that the greens are usually a bit slow and not a lot of contour. read more

I'm surprised at the lackluster reviews of Twin Lakes. I played here at the beginning of July and thought the course was in great shape. I played the Lakes course, as the Oaks course was hosting a women's tournament. I found the pro shop staff to be fairly friendly, if they had been friendlier, I would have given them one more star. The starter was very nice though, and offered us balls that he had found to use during our round. I've never seen a starter do that before. The course was in nice shape. The greens are slow, but it forces you to really practice your touch with the putter. I found the tees to be pretty lush and the range markers accurate. I even saw a few deer grazing around a couple of the holes. There are a few lakes on the course as well. This course seems to demand that you think about your yardage, club choice, etc, which to me is what golf is all about. The pricing was also very reasonable for the area. I would definitely play here again, and recommend that people try it at least once! read more

I am always amazed when I play here how rude the staff is!! The gentlemen at the desk act like they are doing you a favor by taking your money and letting you play. The only polite person was the woman at the lunch counter. When I played Lake Presidential a couple of weeks ago, the general manager came out to introduce himself and thanked us for playing. Played: Oaks Course - Once 11/09/2012 (Friday) Price: $39 (walking) + $7 (range balls) Pace of Play: 4 hrs. 15 min. The Oaks Course is a beautiful golf course. We had the pleasure of playing it on a Friday afternoon with no groups ahead or behind us, allowing us to fully appreciate the beauty of the course on a nice fall afternoon. The course was in EXCELLENT condition for a municipal course and was a VERY reasonable price. The greens could have been a bit faster but they were well-maintained. This course isn't very long - even from the blue tees - but there are some long holes, namely #2, #10, #13, and #16 (par 4s) as well as #8 and #15 (par 3s). The fairways are plenty generous but if you miss the fairways you will likely be in trees and 1 foot of leaves. So if you don't hit it straight you'll need to bring extra golf balls. I didn't appreciate being charged $7 for about 35 range balls, though. Other than that, I don't have anything negative to say about this course. We actually took our time (since we had nowhere to be) and played in 4 hours and 15 minutes. I'm sure it takes a LOT longer to play on a summer weekend, though. read more

Played the Lakes course on June 12, 2015. Found it to be in very good shape. The greens were the best that I've ever seen them and I've played this course a half dozen times over the past few years. Fairways were also in very good shape as I found very few dried out, brown areas. The bunkering is good, not too penal, and were in good shape with plenty of sand. The course is enjoyable to play with wide fairways and generous greens. There is decent variation in holes with a short par five (#9) and a short par four (#15). Hole #8 is a fun par three over water. I will play there again! read more

I've lived in walking distance from Twin Lakes for 22 years and never knew they had a beautiful ballroom inside the clubhouse. I needed a large space for a Celebration of Life service and reception and while looking on-line, Twin Lakes popped up. Everything from beginning to end was perfect. Kara, the event planner, was super friendly, efficient and helpful. They allowed us to bring in everything for the reception, except the beer, which had to be purchased from them. They had everything set up and ready to go for us and the service went off without a hitch. They have a huge projection screen and electronics/ audio equipment that worked perfectly. We are very grateful to Kara and the folks at Twin Lakes! This place would be a great place to have business off-site meetings, weddings, etc. read more

I only play here because my friends insist on it. But it is a bad layout and the conditions are bad, even for a public course. That is not the bad part though... What really makes this place bad are the old men who sit inside at the counter with a really bad attitude. Whoever was the old man who worked the counter on December 2, 2016 mid day was the worst grumpy old man. He must have lost his stash of viagra because he was mad at something. Whoever manages this course needs to reset the attitude of this old man. So..eek, methinks not. Go elsewhere. read more

I've only played the Lakes Course so my review is based on that course. I like the layout of the course and it's generally a good challenge. The hazards are visible which allows you to strategize properly except for hole 10. For this hole, there'a a creek that's not visible from the tee which is easily driveable. The other water hazards though are easily visible and the course is fairly forgiving toward errant drives. The course is very walkable as well. The distance between the holes are short and the course isn't terribly hilly. The course condition is pretty good - fairly lush without a lot of dead patches. My main complain is the terrible customer service. I arrived 15 minutes before my time. There are two starters on the course - an initial starter and then another starter by the first hole. For the initial starter, I checked in and he mentioned that my group was "waiting for me" with an annoyed tone. I was told to then check with the clubhouse which I did and then I started to walk back to the tee when the starter called me over. In an patronizing tone, he said Twins Lakes had a 30 minute prior to tee time check in policy and if I ever pulled this crap again, he would immediately cancel my tee time and I would lose my money. Stunned, I said OK and walked away. I've been playing golf for a long time and I've played at many different public courses and this is the first time I can recall a starter being an utter jerk. He could have politely mentioned the 30 minute policy, their cancellation policy, and then reminded me to check in earlier next time instead of lecturing me like I was a high school student. I wouldn't say I will never come back but I'm definitely reluctant to give Twin Lakes another try after that experience. read more

POO-POO. Twilight with cart on a weekday is $50?! Me thinks not! Yardage markers are very VERY off. When you're at the 150 yard mark and I swing with a pitching wedge choked up AND I still overshoot the green....something is very very wrong. My problems were not with the course it is a good course in really good condition, but with the employees at this establishment. I felt discriminated against because of the color of my skin while playing for the first time. The ranger and older male in his mid 60s was harassing my group while we were trying to play. The ranger, a white male who looks to be in his mid 60s began to yell at us, "Why the fuck are you boys playing so slow. Are you jerking each other off in the club house..." He then proceeded to harass us as we hit our tee shots. "Y'all better hurry up, before I speed y'all up" I was frustrated. he then proceeded... "Did y'all even pay to play? or did y'all just sneak out here.." He then asked the 3 african americans in the group to show our receipts, but did not ask the white man in our group. I was obviously upset. I showed him my receipt, and began to walk toward my ball on the fairway. He still didn't believe we payed after seeing our receipts... He then yells, "Hey boy don't walk away from me when I'm talking to you, you need to learn respect." I was really pissed now. I responded kindly as I have been taught in such situations, "Sir, I'm just trying to speed up the pace of play like you said. But you harassing us isn't helping the cause, sir..." He then continues with his harassment. "You better fucking play faster or else..." I was pissed... I was scared... I began to cry tears of frustration... Our group played in complete silence until I finally spoke up 3 holes into the back 9. It ruined our experience at this establishment but I wanted to make sure the employee was held accountable. I complained to an employee in the pro shop after and explained my frustrations but he just rolled his eyes as if what I was saying was a complete lie (another white male in his mid 60s). He said he would "talk" to the employee. And offered my group a free round next time. I am still furious... And this kind of culture, and behavior is unacceptable to me. read more

Twin Lakes is a solid golf experience, it has (2) courses which allows more opportunities for someone who is trying to walk on without a tee time. The Lakes course is open and forgiving, wide fairways, longer rough, less water, more forgiving, larger, flatter greens. The back is more challenging than the front. The Oaks course is a traditional " walk in the woods". Demanding in every way with the test starting on the first two holes. The last four holes are great and provide a nice finish to this wonderful County course. Pro's- easy access, reasonable pricing, conditions are usually pretty good. Con's- untrained staff, if there's a frost delay their response is unpredictable, bunkers are usually in bad shape, no one fixes their ball marks for some reason? I keep coming back and I'm pretty picky about how I spend my golf dollars. read more

For some reason, the Budweiser seems to taste better out here. I am not much of a golfer and I never care where the ball goes so long as I have enough Budweiser. Hell, I actually hate golf. I am just out here to drive those cart things and drink Budweiser. In the fall, I bring my shotgun with me. I like to load up one of the cart things with Budweiser and drive it down by the lakes and shoot ducks and gooses. It is best to get them over the land so you don't have to go into the water after them. No dogs allowed. read more

The Oaks Course is a great public course along with the Lakes Course as a part of the Twin Lakes golf complex in Chantilly, VA. A driving range and short game practice area make this a must visit facility for Nova golfers. Both courses are in top notch condition and are managed by a top notch maintenance team. As a course it would rank as a 3 out of 5. However they by far have the worst staff at any course in the country. I grew up playing this course throughout high school and college. The staff here has always been grumpy old men who act like they are paying you to play here. As with most fairfax county public courses the staff is paid by the county and unlike privately owned courses they have no incentive to be customer centric. I had not played this course in over 8 years, but I had a friend from high school in town and we decided to play here. BIG MISTAKE! We scheduled our tee time 2 days in advance for a foursome. Their online booking was not working so we had called the course directly (minor strike 1). When we got to the course they had booked it as a single and even though we had booked first they gave it to the threesome they double booked us with (strike 2). They then gave us a tee time over an hour later (strike 3). Then when our 4th was paying they asked his sons age (5), and said he was not allowed on the course under 6 years old (he is very well behaved and has been going to courses with his dad since age 2) (strike 4). During all of these interactions the staff was not apologetic in the least and were rude as can be. This course has seen a drastic decline in patrons, to the point where they allow "footgolf" to try and fill in tee times. One suggestion might be to not be such giant a******s, and maybe u won't drive away so many customers. Luckily this area has many great courses with friendly staff that encourage youth golf, and a customer focused attitude. Try these instead: Old Hickory, Generals Ridge, Westfields, Bull Run, Bristow Manor, Potomac Shores, just to name a few far superior options! read more

Played the morning of 10-14-2018 on the Lakes Course. The fairways are wrecked. All of the rain from remnants of hurricane Michael must have finally done them in, and the recent steep temperature drop can't have helped. We tried to lift/clean/place in the fairways but there was often nowhere to "place" because there was no grass! It's sad, the course is bordering on unplayable. Twin Lakes is one of my favorites, but at this point I just hope it can return to what it used to be. We need dry weather - maybe next year. read more

THis review is for the Lakes Course, I have not tried their other newer course. I have played this course 5-6 times this year. LOVE this course. Good friendly staff, and the conditions are always very nice. Lots of water if you're into that sort of thing. This is my favorite course around the Washington DC/ MD area.
