Consistently good food and good prices. They are easy to deal with, food always ready when I arrive to pick up.

I went to an event yesterday that had catering from this restaurant and it was honestly okay. I'm not sure how the menu was decided but the options chosen were a bit out of place (not the restaurant's fault I'm sure) but even in tasting it, I wasn't a fan. There was mac and cheese which was just loaded with too much cheese, a hummus and pita station and the pita bread was very dry. There was a bruschetta station that I didn't get a chance to try so I won't comment on that but then there was asian hot and sour chicken which was a bit soggy. I wish there were healthier options too. However, their service seemed really good as they kept replacing items as they went low and they also served mocktails which were good! read more

We selected twin oaks because they were the most responsive to our questions and needs. They emailed and called and worked with us to provide confidence in their service. We worked with Mike and his team for an 80 person kids first birthday party at our house. They put together a fantastic bbq spread with high quality burgers and dogs, bbq chicken and sausage and peppers. Surprisingly the biggest hit was the veggie burgers which were fantastic. Everything was good, we loved the chili and pesto pasta veggie salad. The ice cream sundae bar was worth the upgrade as it had all the fixings. We will recommend them to everybody and certainly use them again. read more

I've been sitting on this review for a few months. I didn't want my newlywed bliss to unfairly bias my review, but even 5 months after the wedding, I am still absolutely thrilled with my entire experience with Twin Oaks. I had already known about Twin Oaks after attending another wedding they catered. I was impressed with how seamlessly the event flowed, and was excited to use them for my own wedding. In case anyone didn't know, they've been the preferred caterer at Rutgers Gardens for a very long time - and with good reason. They know the venue extremely well and are trusted by the RG staff. For our wedding, we signed our contract with Mike about a year out, maybe more (my memory is rusty). He worked with us to make sure we had the best options for our budget. One of the things we liked most about the options Mike gave us was that everything was included - staff, setup/breakdown, china, linens, glassware, flatware, etc. We didn't have to worry about any hidden costs later on because there wasn't much extra to add on. The only things we had to pay for outside of our contract were the bartender and alcohol, which TO assisted us with procuring. We opted for the Gourmet Grill package, which included: -Cocktail hour (I heard it was tasty, I was a bit busy!) -Mixed greens with a citrus vinaigrette dressing -London broil carving station (some of the most tender beef I've ever had) -Jumbo shrimp & scallop skewers (our guests said they were the most perfectly made scallops they'd ever had) -Grilled apricot pineapple chicken breast -Fresh mozzarella & tomato (lots of herbs, yum) -Red bliss potato salad -Vegetable antipasto (lots and lots of delicious grilled vegetables) -Sun-dried tomato & basil ravioli with roasted red pepper cream sauce (*drool*) -Garlic mashed potatoes -Fresh steamed seasonal vegetables Our package also included a tiered wedding cake from Palermo's, which was also delicious. I can't think of a single thing we ate at our wedding that wasn't wonderful. In fact, there isn't a single thing about our experience with Twin Oaks that wasn't top notch. The staff set up and broke down not only our reception but also our ceremony, making sure we wouldn't have to lift a finger. The serving staff was friendly, courteous, and kept everything moving along smoothly. Our bartender was fantastic and kept our guests well lubricated. We literally didn't have a single complaint about how our wedding went. Mike and his staff were a pleasure to work with. They were total professionals and they really know what they're doing. Mike also did a great job of calming the nervous bride with his confident yet laid-back approach. He responded to questions promptly and made sure we felt sure of the decisions we were making. When you read all the reviews here, everyone raves about the food. It's very well deserved. They provided the food for my brother's wake and I was very anxious that everything would go well but the one thing I did not need to worry about was the food! Rich came and quickly set up a very attractive spread. Later, I found out he was also our chef. Everything was superb! All the guests wanted to know who the caterer was. I can't say enough nice things about working with Mike Pelligra and his crew for our daughter's outdoor wedding! Our planning started pre-pandemic - the wedding had to be rescheduled twice (with plenty of notice), but Mike took it all in stride. He answered our emails and calls promptly, and coordinated the tent, bar and table set-up with our other vendors. We requested several COVID protocols and they followed through. Mike Pelligra and his crew did an outstanding job yesterday at my daughter's wedding barbecue at Rutgers Gardens. Anything I needed for the day was handled by Mike. He arranged for a handicapped Porta-potty, 2 industrial fans and wine and beer as well as the delicious food that was served. Mike was responsive to my questions and answered them in a timely manner. Rosa and Linda, the setup and server ladies, were personable, efficient and a delight to work with. The food was enjoyed by all of our guests. The pulled barbecue beef and the barbecue chicken were the favorites. The salads and the veggies were fresh and creatively presented. The fruit and cakes were fresh and delicious. Twin Oaks catered a party that my food allergic child recently attended. When I called to inquire about the food, they went out of their way to accommodate me. They answered the phone outside of regular business hours, went through the menu with me and even took the time to read product labels so that we could make wise choices. I have used Twin Oaks catering several times before and it has always been amazing. This past weekend we utilized them for my sister in laws baby shower which was outdoors under a tent. Twin Oaks helped to order all of the outdoor furniture items that we needed, a tent, tables, and chairs. They coordinated the set up and delivery and all of that went well. When we booked Twin Oaks we selected one menu and then after a lot of review and deliberation we chose a different menu to order from and TO did not give us any issues with the last minute switch. The day of we had torrential down pours in the morning and then it was sunny for the majority of the event. We hired two servers who were amazing. They showed up and as they came in were actually helping a guest carry in their shower gift. The servers made sure everything was all set up from the food to the drinks to the garbage areas. They prepped everything, cleaned everything and then when it started to pour again had no problems bringing everything inside. They packed all the food away, cleaned all of the dishes and were the most amazing women who truly represented Twin Oaks well. We will definitely continue to order from TO for all our major events. read more

With mike's help we planned our daughters engagement party. Mike and twin oaks were amazing !! Twin oaks was right on time. They did the complete set-up with recommendation where each station should be. The food was hot and excellent. His recommendations were spot on. I recommend the salmon and chicken. It was the hottest day of the year and everyone was eating. Denise and Lori were the best. What more can you ask for when they offer your guests food and drink all afternoon? My kitchen has never been cleaner. The party ended 4 hours ago and the calls have started about how great and plentiful the food was. They accommodated all our requests, helped with organization, set-up the entire venue for us, and managed a fantastic staff at the wedding! People still talk about how wonderful our wedding was and how the food was also incredibly good (including the pig roast and all the special Brazilian themed requests we had). Twin Oaks catered my wedding this past weekend. They FAR exceeded my expectations. So many guests have commented on the quality of the food. (We went with selections from their American Bounty menu). Their staff was amazing and set up all of the linens, center pieces, and decorated the various other tables. They also provided two experienced bartenders. Then when everything was done their entire staff cleaned up and broke down everything. My whole family was extremely impressed. Everything they did went above and beyond. Working with Twin Oaks & Mike Pelligra for our wedding couldn't have been better! From the initial email discussing options for the venue at Rutgers Gardens to the weeks & days before the big day with the MANY emails of me confirming all the details & decorations. Mike was always quick with responses in the utmost professional manner and was very personable. Working in the restaurant industry for over a decade, I was very very impressed by the staff and their attention to detail and being so helpful. They also made sure the bride & groom ate! The day goes by so quick, sometimes you just forget to really sit down! We opted with a buffet style dinner and we did add a PIG ROAST to our menu, which we highly recommend. Mike was carving the pig to order and had a variety of bbq and hot sauces for people to choose from. The presentation was epic & that piggy pig pig.. everyone was talking about it for days! We also had some leftovers that the staff wrapped up for us.. mmmm :) Twin Oaks handled dietary restrictions wonderfully, as when we were first getting into planning we were the most nervous about. This wedding was the ultimate test: Bride having Celiacs (gluten intolerance) & a dozen guests were vegan. Mike made sure every menu was properly labeled (even double checked labels to make sure everyone could read them properly) & everyone was fed, with vegan guests getting their own meal. Overall, I would recommend Twin Oaks to anyone looking to have an exciting meal on their big day with great staff to back it up! I was a bridesmaid for my friend's wedding, where Twin Oaks Catered her wedding at Rutgers Gardens. While I didn't get to enjoy the cocktail hour (busy with party photos), I did get to enjoy the hor d'ourves prior to the buffet dinner. Considering the bride to be was a bit disorganized, I was super impressed that at least she chose a very good catering company that 1) could help out and make the necessary arrangements/support, 2) had a great waitstaff that made sure water pitchers were filled and tables were cleaned, 3) food--especially the whole roasted pork- was super tender/moist and delicious (I was at another friend's wedding with a roasted pork menu and by far this one much tastier). The head caterer lead offered to help us with last minute decorations after seeing how frantic we were trying to hang up ornaments on a tree, to a last minute 'cake decoration session' another bridesmaid friend and I did right before the cake cutting ceremony (as the bride & groom apparently had plans to do the decorations on a white cake themselves and "forgot"). They were responsive to the crazy requests, and offered to help when needed. at the end of the day, the main part of the wedding people remember is usually the food and good party right?? I think this catering company really helped to ensure making the event a memorable one! read more

Twin oaks catered the GMC wrestling Coaches Association All Star Awards Presentation today at the Milltown American Legion today. They did an absolutely amazing job. Some of the BEST catered food I have had in a long time. And I am a self acclaimed "foodie". Beef stroganoff was full of flavor tender and tons of mushrooms. Chicken Francaise was perfect and lemony. Swedish meatballs and butter noodles. And that'd just to name a few of the dishes. Plenty to offer for the dinner. Dessert was fresh fruit, perfect in ripeness and assorted pastries, the only downside was desserts ran out before everyone got served. Servers were very plesant and on top of it all. We hired Mike and his team at Twin Oaks Caterers for our wedding this past August, and they executed the entire event perfectly! Our reception was quite a drive from their office (almost 2 hours away), but they still managed to get everything organized and setup without any issues. The venue we chose, though beautiful, was very bare bones, and literally only came with tables and chairs. There wasn't even any running water onsite. We definitely needed a caterer that was full-service AND could handle an outdoor-ish venue. Twin Oaks had absolutely no problem with any of this and managed to get everything to run smoothly on our big day. The food they served was also amazing! Everyone is still raving at how perfectly the steak was cooked and how delicious in general everything was. One of the major reasons we hired them though was for the outdoor brick oven pizza they offered for cocktail hour. It was a total hit with our guests, and the pizza was awesome! Mike was also extremely responsive to e-mails and just so easy to work with during the planning process. He did our floor plan, timelines, and was basically a second wedding coordinator for us. His staff was also extremely helpful, and when Mike was away the week before our wedding, they didn't miss a beat. My husband and I met in New Brunswick so when it was time to plan our special day Rutgers Gardens was the place! Luckily for us Twin Oaks was one of three caterers to choose from, they are literally down the street from our house. Mike and the entire staff were great leading up to the day. Even when I called with a billion questions and suggestions, they were with us every step of the way. They were flexible when we had problems with the scary budget and made it easy to complete our vision of our perfect day. My husband is a restaurant manager in NYC and he has very high expectations as well as myself who also worked in the industry for many years. When we went for our tasting we were blown away and on the day the food was even better!! worth every penny. His staff took such good care of everyone. My mother will always find something wrong but she had a smile the whole time and loved all the dishes we chose for our wedding. At the end they packed up the left overs for us to take home. We had made plans to meet up with our family in Wildwood and they were so happy to eat the food with us! Excellent Excellent!! Our day was fantastic!! We were offered a choice of three caterers for our event (Bar Mitzvah) at the Rutgers Log Cabin, and we picked Twin Oaks. We could not have made a better decision. From Mike's expert help in planning our event, to Twin Oak's setup of the cabin, to the elegant and delicious buffet dinner they arranged and served for us, everything was perfect. To echo what other reviewers have said, Mike and his staff were professional and friendly, and did whatever it took to make sure our event went off without a hitch. We've had so many compliments on the food from our guests, all of whom returned to the buffet again and again. Even our two vegan guests were thrilled that we were able to accommodate them, all with the help of Twin Oaks. I'm guessing that it's the rare Bar Mitzvah that takes place in a real log cabin and that serves country western/BBQ food, so ours was wonderful and unique.
