When I arrived at the office for my appointment, I stood in the waiting room (with no one else present). The women behind the desk were talking about a jury duty summons. One woman glanced at me, then turned back to continue the conversation. The second woman also looked at me but didn't acknowledge my presence. After waiting a moment, I politely said, "Excuse me." The first woman responded, "Are you the 11 o'clock?" I confirmed, and she immediately returned to talking about her jury duty. At this point, I was stunned by the complete lack of customer service. I told them I was a new patient and had been completely ignored. I asked if their personal conversation could wait, considering I was here for an appointment. The first woman responded that it wasn't a personal conversation, but rather about her jury duty summons. I expressed that, to me, it was still a personal conversation, and I was there for an appointment -- not to be disregarded. She then stated, "Well, if I'm on jury duty for three weeks, this office is closed." I asked if she was the office manager, to which she replied, "No, I'm the DOCTOR." I was absolutely floored that the DOCTOR would treat a new patient with such disregard. There was no apology for her rude behavior. I told her that if the office would be closed for three weeks, perhaps it should stay closed if this was how new patients were treated. I then asked her to cancel both my appointment and my children's appointments, and I left. The second woman remained silent, though I could tell she seemed uncomfortable and perhaps wanted to intervene, as she nervously smiled while standing in the doorway. It's difficult to trust "Dr." Mahaffey with your eyes when she can't even seem to notice the people right in front of her. By the way, Dr. Mahaffey, you likely won't have to worry about jury duty if you claim hardship, considering you own your own business. I truly hope others have a better experience, but I won't be returning. I wanted to support a local business, but Dr. Mahaffey could definitely benefit from some customer service training to improve the patient experience.

Today I had my eye appt. Where is spent just shy of $1000 to get my updated contact prescription,…read moreand a years worth of contacts. During my exam (which was very good and thorough, Hartman does a great job) I asked for my pupillary distance so that I could order my glasses online, and my doctor said that I could get my PD taken when checking out up front. I go to check out and ask for my PD, when they tell me that they aren't allowed to give that out. I thought they were joking at first, but they really refused to give me my own medical information. Obviously so that I'm forced to buy glasses through them, which I refuse to do. It appears that if I'm not buying my glasses through them, Clarkson eye care would rather have me get an unreliable measurement on my own. Very disappointed by this. I just want to order a cheap pair of glasses for when contacts aren't an option. If I can help it, I will NOT be returning to Clarkson eye care, as I refuse to support a business that is clearly not in my best interest. You'd think after spending $1000 they would be willing to give me my PD. Hell, before today, I would've thought withholding my medical information such as my PD would be ILLEGAL. screw you Clarkson, you ruined my day.

Worst place to get glasses, contacts, or an eye exam. I wanted to give a local place my business…read moreinstead of going to WalMart. When I called to schedule the exam they asked for my insurance, I told them I don't have eye coverage that I would just pay the full cost up front. After the exam I saw a pair of glasses with a sticker price of $150 dollars. I sat down with the secretary to purchase them, and after she filled out the form the final cost for the glasses was almost $800. I told her never mind I'd just go with the contacts which they said were $68, I said fine. Then they give me a cost for double that (two boxes) plus about $150 for the eye exam. I know contacts are cheaper online so I declined those as well, and said I'll just pay for the exam (last time I went to Walmart and got the exam and contacts for about $150). They again asked me for my insurance, I told them I don't have eye coverage and I'd just pay the total now. They ran my card for the total. Three weeks later I get a call from the office asking for my insurance. At this point I realize what type of bad business this company does. I told her "I already paid the total why would you need my insurance", and she was like a broken record "we just need your insurance to bill them it's probably covered" and I'm like "I don't owe you any money?!" She says ok and next thing I know I get a bill in the mail for almost another $150. So almost $300 just for an eye exam. (The average price for an eye exam is under $100). This is a business that preys on probably an older customer base who don't know there are much cheaper and equally good alternatives.
