I'll discuss that first because until the company fixes this issue, it will lead to the same problem for other as we experienced. Here's the problem: when you book the tour, it tells you to meet the tour guide in the lobby of The View Hotel. On the website before booking, it says "Please meet your guide in the lobby of the View Hotel next to the bronze statue of a cowboy riding a horse." In the email confirmation, it says "Your tour guide will pick you up at the beautiful View Hotel lobby!" Pretty clear, right? We're supposed to meet the tour guide in the lobby. No ambiguity here. We arrived in the lobby a full 15 minutes ahead of our 9:00am pickup - we were warned that the tour would leave precisely on time. 9:00 came and went with no sign of the tour guide or his vehicle. I call the office and get voicemail, but don't leave a message. A minute later I get a text message from their bot inviting me to start a conversation. I explain the problem, and get another automatically-generated response: "Thanks for letting me know! I'll check with our team and get back to you shortly." Over the next 10 minutes I send a couple more clarification messages, and receive no response at all. So we're starting to fret. We have a flight to catch later in the day, so if we miss this tour we won't have an opportunity to rebook. Then after a few minutes, a tour guide from a _different_ company comes in, sees us, and says that the meeting point for tours is outside. We walk out of the hotel lobby, and don't see anything at all, because the tour pickup point is across the parking lot and down a hill, completely out of view from the hotel entrance. We walk down, arriving 10 minutes after the "prompt" departure time, and join our tour. We could have completely missed our tour because of the company's inability to maintain an accurate website. But we lucked out today. The company never called or texted back to provide us with updated instructions about where to meet, and the tour guide didn't attempt to find us either. We are grateful to the guide from the different company who made sure we got on the tour. So, this could easily be a 2-star or worse review for this experience. But the fact of the matter is that the tour was really great once we got started. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and entertaining. He gave us recommendations about where to take pictures and took a couple creative ones for us. He shared Navajo history, mythology, and his own personal experiences growing up in the Navajo nation. We saw some beautiful scenery which left us wanting more.

Monument Valley absolutely lives up to the hype. Towering red sandstone buttes rise from the desert floor, creating one of the most iconic landscapes in the American Southwest. The vast open spaces, dramatic silhouettes, rich Navajo history, and ever-changing light make this a place that's impossible to capture fully in a photo--apparently the rocks know how to work a camera better than I do. It was easy to understand why this incredible landscape has been featured in so many classic Westerns, road trips, and sweeping desert scenes. Every turn looked like a postcard, every angle looked familiar, and every view somehow still felt larger than life. A truly unforgettable stop. Goosenecks State Park was a nice stop during our trip through southeastern Utah. It seems like it would be an even more memorable experience for those camping overnight. Unfortunately, it was extremely windy during our visit, which limited how long we stayed, but it was still worth the stop to see this unique landscape.

We enjoyed tremendous views of Monument Valley as well as interesting and thoughtful stories and explanations of how this area holds deep meaning to the Navajo. Our group was small, and our leaders were patient, funny, and helpful for those of us with next to no horseback riding experience. My husband, who can be difficult to impress, was awestruck by the views and the perspective that comes only with being on a trail, not in a vehicle. If you go, bring a full water bottle and cash for tipping, plus remember to wear your sunscreen and a hat. Special thanks also to Mack and Sideburns, our trusty steeds! We had a little trouble locating the starting point at the stables -- we thought we were supposed to park in the Navajo Visitor Center parking lot and check in at the tour booth at the far end of the parking lot. Turns out that tour booth is for vehicle tours. The folks there advised us to drive down a short gravel road next to the visitor center and park next to the stables that we could see in the distance. Easy enough, but this could have been clearer in the directions; a simple map or drawing would have been very helpful. We also didn't realize we'd have to pay a $10 per person entry fee to the Visitor Center parking lot before even getting to the stables. Maybe that was mentioned in the instructions and I just missed it? Either way, not a deal-breaker for us.

We booked a 1-hour horseback riding tour for 1:00 PM. Before it was our turn, another group arrived…read more(most likely booked for the 11:00 AM tour), so the same horses had already been out riding for 2 hours before it was our turn. The horses were given no break - not even a water break, before we were put on the same horses and started our 1-hour tour. The horses we rode walked slowly and appeared tired and dehydrated. We did not see any water in the horses' enclosure. We also noticed that the horses had no shelter from the sun or rain inside the fence area where they were kept. Otherwise, the horses seemed OK, they were fed and our guide was OK. I would have given Sacred Monument Tours better rating if I had observed that the horses had access to water and were given a break between rides before a new group of people went out.

A massive, monolithic rock on the lake Powell is called the Lone Rock. This free-standing sandstone rock is the namesake of one of the most popular beaches in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. This spot is very special because you can drive directly to the water's edge and camp on the shoreline. The campground is very big so there will always be a perfect spot for you. At Lone Rock Campground, you can swim in the crystal blue waters. You can also boat -- both motorized and human-powered -- or enjoy the only designated off-road area in Glen Canyon. The beach can be used for kayaking, jogging, swimming, fishing or sun bathing. Lone Rock provides more of a dog/family-friendly experience. Often. Campers over campfires is a regular occurrence. The area accommodates RVs, pickup campers, and tents alike. Unlike the developed campgrounds at marinas or in Page, Arizona, this one offers better access to nature and has a much more spectacular sunset and sunrise mountain/lake view. Yet, you will still be able to quickly and easily make it to popular destinations such as Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. At Lone Rock Beach Campground or anywhere throughout the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, you must pay $12 per night per car to camp on a first-come first-serve basis. There are restrooms and an outdoor shower for use on the beach. Camping is permitted just about everywhere in the park. Lone Rock Campground seems to be open year-round; perhaps , not during the winter. Weekends and especially holidays can be quite busy for camping. However, there is plenty of room to camp and there are no limitations to the number of campers allowed, If you are up to be off the grids, this is definitely your dream destination. Enjoy!

Here are the directions via website…read more Directions: Lone Rock Beach Campground is located on Utah Highway 89, 2 miles south of Big Water, UT and 12 miles north of Page, AZ. If you're coming from UT: a few short miles after Big Water look for signs to Lone Rock Beach--the turn off is on the left. If you're coming from Page: Drive through Page and pass the Glen Canyon Dam. In approximately 12 miles look for signs to Lone Rock Beach. The turn off is on your right. You'll be required to enter through the park gate and pay Glen Canyon entrance / usage fees. Once through the toll booth, drive until you see a small parking lot next to the restrooms / information pavilion. You can choose from among several dirt roads to the beach area. Be sure to stay on improved dirt/sand roads and away from soft sand, as vehicles can get stuck easily. Pay attention to that last part of the directions. I entered the beach after 8pm when the rangers had left and there was nobody to warn me about which way to go. I got my car stuck and needed to trek down to the beach and ask some nice people with big burly vehicles to help tow me out. Apparently they were accustomed to such requests as people get stuck quite often. When you enter take the path the farthest left you can. The sand is more compact there. There is no running water. Campgrounds are primitive but you have the most amazing view of lone rock and the beaches. Apparently Hugh Hefner and his bunnies like to beach themselves here and a certain infamous video by Ms Pam Anderson and Mr Lee was made here. It's a close drive to Lake Powell I camped two nights here and used this as my basecamp for exploring Lake Powell and the Antelop Canyons. The campgrounds here are much better than the ones in the Marina in my opinion if you want seclusion and nature. If you desire more civilities like running water, toilet, grocery store etc then I'd recommend the Marina.

All right, so first things first: the view is absolutely amazing. With that said, I booked an RV…read morespot at the campground but ended up leaving without spending the night. Extremely rocky, no campfires allowed, and a cheap/rough picnic table for you to use is all. There's no grass, it's just rough rock like someone turned a rough parking lot into a cheap campground by just calling it a campground. Also, to be honest, I didn't even go look at the showers or restrooms in the little hut that they have them in, I just left. I would recommend going for the sites for $10, turning around, and sleeping somewhere else, an extremely underwhelming campground.

It seems like they book out months in advance, fyi but I think I hit it just right. The cabins are small but very cute. Ours had a queen bed and a small alcove with bunk beds that had a door you could shut to separate for privacy. We had a fridge, microwave and Keurig. The bathroom was small but did offer a blow dryer and tiny bottles of shampoo and conditioner as well as a tiny round of soap. If four people are sharing you might plan to bring your own. There is a ceiling fan which helps with circulation. The porch gives you an amazing view of Monument Valley. Note: Cabins 1-17 have a row of cabins below them. You still get a decent view of the valley but I'd recommend booking cabins 18-29 which have unobstructed views. You are offered free breakfast at the hotel but it's really mediocre. I suggest bringing your own items/snacks. The hotel gives you vouchers for free water bottles every day and a $20 a day voucher at the gift shop for handmade goods. I wasn't going to use the vouchers, but with a sale going on and the two vouchers, I got a Navajo pot for free which was a nice souvenir. The restaurant is overpriced but unless you pack in your own food there's really nothing out here expect this or Goulding's Lodge. (There is a stand in Monument Valley called Linda's Frybread but I don't have enough information to post.) The food isn't terrible and the people are nice. Kayenta is about 30 minutes away and there is often construction on the roads so we didn't want to drive there for food. The thing is: this place is SO gorgeous and special. You feel lucky just to be hanging out in your cute little cabin with spectacular views. (We were in Cabin 12.) I loved my time here, took tons of photos, and would do it again. It's easy to overlook the prices or the inconveniences for what you get out of the experience.
