I was happy with my extensions, however my hair cut, color & wash was not what I have ever experienced before. I specifically asked for layers on the BOTTOM half of my hair where my real hair ended & my extensions started. Jan ended up layering my WHOLE head with a razor. I have VERY thin hair, so you can imagine how disappointed I was when i returned home & found most of the top layer of my real hair, legit chopped, to a very short layer, after years of growing it out. Legit botch job! I specifically gave Jan a prescription, in writing even, from my previous colorist, of what I wanted as far as my high lights & low light as my previous colorist recently left the hair industry and was no longer available. My previous colorist was using the same two colors on my hair for years. Nothing special or out of the ordinary. A high light & low light. In fact these Colors are what Jan matched my extensions to. Jan's response when i handed her the prescription was, "you don't need that" and ended up using two tones of bleach on my hair instead. No low lights. Not only was the color not what I specifically asked for, she refused to do it. She also did not color the sides of my hair or my bangs/front of my hair. She only colored the very top of my head, in my "part" direction, which she failed to realize, I part my hair on the opposite side, she colored my hair on. I was truly perplexed. When she shampooed my hair after bleaching it, she didn't wash my whole head. Only the top where the bleach was applied. The bottom 3/4 of my hair was dry the whole time & was never touched by water, shampoo or conditioner. Jan is a lovely lady and very kind however in my case she did not perform, as a stylist, what I considered to be a professional service. At. All! I recommend Jan for hair extensions, even though she is on the highest end of cost, however I do not recommend her for cuts, colors, shampoos or conditioning treatments. read more

I recently got a cut and foil from Heidi at Twist, and I have to say I was not very pleased with it. The haircut is fine, if a little shorter than I wanted, so 3.5 stars for that. What really upset me was the color, which I felt was pretty slipshod. It's a bit streaky, so the highlights don't look very natural. Worse than that, she didn't get very close to the roots in a lot of places. I booked a two-hour appointment on their website, but the whole thing took only an hour and ten minutes. That's a really fast full foil, in my experience. It shows. My favorite part was at the end, when I was paying, and she told me I should come back in 6-8 weeks for another $130 haircut and partial foil. Well, of course I'm going to need a touch-up in 6 weeks if I leave the salon already looking like I got my hair done three weeks ago. I will not be back. read more

I called several times and left messages which received no response (annoying!), which is partly why I can't give a higher score. Eventually I got in touch with the owner, Jan Zweig, who told me to book online since I was a Groupon customer. Jan was brusk on the phone, which was a big turn-off. But I really needed a haircut, and now I'm glad I went. My stylist was Angela Holliday and she does excellent work. I came in with a couple of pictures and she gave me exactly what I wanted, as well as making some suggestions for styling my new cut. Angela is very experienced and it shows in the quality of her end-product. I'm getting tons of compliments on my new bangs. Thanks Angela! Twist Studio is a little hard to find--they're buried in the back of the building, so you have to walk down multiple hallways, past several other businesses before you find them. Also, Twist is a pet-friendly salon. The client seated next to me had her small dog in her lap, and there is evidence of pet hair on the bench and pillows decorating the entry. If you don't like pets or are allergic to dander, this is not the salon for you. Angela's work deserves 5 stars. However, I can only give Twist Studio a 3 because of the difficulty I had contacting them, the awkward location, and ultimately the pet-friendly policy. I love animals... but I don't want them in my salon. I hear enough barking dogs in my apartment building, so when I spend my money at the spa, I expect to be pampered and relaxed. And a barking five pound yorkie-poo is the opposite of relaxing! read more

When I first came to see Angela a year ago, I was a hot mess!! A different hair lady had cut alot of fusion extensions out of my hair. It was alot of different lengths and I felt terrible about it. Now that a year has passed, Angela has saved my hair, she truly can preform hair miracles!! I only will be seeing Angela for any hair need I have. I love how honest she is. But actually this is the most friendly salon I've ever been to! To get to the salon is pretty easy. It's inside the wellness building, so you have find the building first, and than go inside to get to the salon. Pretty easy. Staff is pretty good. I felt welcomed right when I walked in. Staff was attentive. I went in for extensions, and Jann helped me get reedy. She's really good at what she does, and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to extensions. I had come in with lots of horror stories of extensions, but Jan was very professional and assured me that she knew what she was doing. There is a dog, a very friendly one too, so if you're not an animal person I wouldn't recommend that you come here (which by the way doesn't shed, so it's hygienic). The final product looked incredible. I'm so happy I came in. Never before would I have thought my hair could look so great! Thanks Jan so much! P.s. They have really great products too, and seem to be knowledgeable which ones to use since I had no idea what to buy after I got my extensions done. read more

Came here because: 1. They offered a groupon, 2. They sold moraccanoil which is my brand of choise, and 3. They are just blocks from my house. I loved being able to book online. Heidi Konke did a great job with my hair, getting a partial foil and first cut in far too long. The value for the groupon was obviously great but looking at normal pricing, I will continue to come to Twist. In the past I've been accustomed to large, popular salons with a ton of chairs and people constantly being swapped out and constantly waiting. The quiet, more private atmosphere of this small business was a great change of scenery. I was there on a Thursday evening. It was pretty warm in the salon as it was one of the first nice spring weeks, but it was actually beautiful to people watch through their open patio doors while relaxing. read more

Went to see Heidi about 3 times over the past year and after the last appointment, I just couldn't take it anymore. The first time I saw Heidi, I loved my hair - I had previously had a bad haircut, and she was super accommodating. The second time was okay, but the way that she talked poorly about other clients was super irritating. I liked my hair, though, so I looked past it. After the last time though, I was so dissatisfied and disappointed. She left me sitting with color on my hair way longer than she should of; she said she would let me process for about 5 more minutes and came back --- I kid you not --- 25 minutes later after dealing with an upset customer who she then continued to bash. My hair ended up streaky and a very off-color blonde/orange, which is not a good look for a natural dark brunette. Luckily they are just going into an ombre and I will hopefully be able to find someone to fix this, but the way that Heidi acted like that's what it was supposed to look like was appalling. I will not be returning not only due to my strange hair, but because of Heidi's unprofessional demeanor and gossip (towards people I don't even know!) LIkewise, she has clearly deleted negative reviews posted about her on StyleSeat, which I think is a poor business practice -- clean up your work and attitude, not your negative reviews. read more

I purchased a groupon for a full foil, deep conditioning treatment, and a haircut. It was a pretty sweet deal and I've been looking for a new salon since the girl I used to see at a different salon left. At first there was some confusion as to making an appointment. If you google "twist hair salon" a website pops up with one phone number for the owner, Jan. so I called it at it turned out to be her personal cell number which was kind of weird. She told me to call the number listed on the coupon. I called twice and left messages but no one called me back. I realized that they didn't have a front desk. Finally a bit frustrated, I went to call again to leave a third message and actually listened to the pre recorded message. You apparently need to book online with one of their stylists but the website you need to go to to do so is www.twist-uptown.com. From there booking was super easy. I wish I had paid more attention to the message the first time! I booked with Angela and she knocked it out of the park! She was friendly and personable and the color turned out perfect. Even though I used a coupon to see her, I will definitely go back to her and pay the regular price. It was worth it. I'm only taking away one star just because it was very confusing as to how to book with a stylist but other than that, I had a great experience. read more

Angela Holiday is the best hair stylist I've ever had! My color and cuts are always AMAZING and she always knows exactly what I want and what's going to make me look great. Fantastic salon! I have been going to Jan Zwieg for the past year for hair extensions and I feel so lucky to have found her! She is truly an expert on hair extensions and helped me find the right product for my fine/thin hair. She is professional, warm and courteous and so efficient taking the extensions out and putting them back in. I always feel like a million bucks when I walk out of there. The salon is easy to find, plenty of parking behind the building and on the street, and always clean and welcoming. I contacted Jan at Twist Hair Studio in order to learn more about hair extensions. I've worn my hair no longer than my collar bone for the better part of the last 10 years and have wanted to grow it out, but find when it gets to a certain length, it drives me crazy and I always cut it again! At my free consultation, Jan took the time to explain the pros and cons of multiple extension options with me and we ultimately ended up choosing to use the fusion bonds since I have fine hair, I want to leave them in for as long as possible, and I didn't want to keep regular maintenance appointments. I was worried about them looking fake, but Jan did an amazing job selecting colors that matched my natural hair, placing them well, and cutting/blending them to look natural. We went over how to care for them to make them last as long as possible and they look great whether styled down or thrown back in a pony tail. I'm confident that I'll be able to allow my hair to grow while wearing the extensions. My only concern now is that I'm going to want them over and over again! After my visit to Twist I just had to write a review. I bought a Living Social deal online and honestly had no idea what to expect. Yes, it was a little difficult to find, but they have maps on the walls that lead you to the salon (there's barre studios there). Somehow my appointment didn't go through on the StyleSeat website and Angie ended up with two of us there. I was unable to find any proof of my appointment (yay technology), but Angela allowed me to keep my appointment. Both stylists there made me feel welcome and I felt at ease, not like I was in some uptight salon. Definitely worth the Living Social buy and I have become a client myself. Angie listened to my concerns and cut and colored my hair just how I asked. Great service ladies and I will definitely be back! ps - I believe they are closed Sundays and Mondays - best to visit their website and book online as I had a difficult time calling the salon to schedule. read more
