Most everything is one of a kind from local artists and designers, as well as artists from all over the US. When I am seeking a special gift for myself to commemorate a special occasion or milestone, I head to directly to Twist, don't pass go. I have been shopping here for years, how is it I have I never written a review for Twist?!! There are not many, if any, stores like this in Portland; it is such a treat to shop here. While there are many expensive pieces of jewelry, there is also a large selection of affordable items so don't let price tags scare you off. Just keep perusing the dozens of jewelry cases filled with earrings, rings, bracelets, and necklaces. I walk around one direction, slowly, then turn and go the other direction to make sure I don't miss anything! There are so many treasures! Jewelry is arranged in cases by designer. Some that I particularly like are Cathy Waterman, Sophie Buhai, Spinelli Kilcollin, and Jill Platner. You can even view the jewelry online by designer, by type and even by price range. Those working here are exceptional. Very responsive and helpful without ever being pushy. They understand that jewelry is very personal and these are big decisions. They will let you try on whatever you like, and take as much time as you need, and will be friendly and gracious even if you end up not buying anything. In addition to the jewelry, I love the collection of unique glassware - cocktail glasses, brightly colored drinking glasses, vases in unique shapes and vibrant color combinations and candle holders. They would definitely be the centerpiece of a room. The store itself is large, bright, airy with plenty of room to walk around and take it all in. I have had the absolute best experience with Twist. I recently worked with Dré who helped me track down a piece that was out of stock but that I've long admired. For Dezso website. Buyer beware - I bought my wife a pair of 18k gold and poika diamond earrings made by Dezsosara from Twist, when the stone fractured after routine use and we inquired about repair/replacement the policy was that we would have essentially been buying a new earring ourselves and this was after shipping the earrings back to the store and waiting 12 weeks for an update from the jeweler. Neither Dezso or Twist seemed surprised the stone broke and did not help to replace the broken stone. We did not receive an email back from the jeweler after we inquired about this directly. read more

This is the place I send my significant other any time I am due for a special treat. The sales staff here are amazing. Never have I encountered a store like this one where I love every single item I lay my eyes on. You can tell each collection of items from jewelry to sculpture are handpicked. Each piece is a beautiful work of art. I had ordered from their online website a few times over the last 10 years or so, but visiting the shop in person surpassed all my expectations. I want to give a shout out to Megan, who helped my husband pick out and purchase a gift for me on the sly while I was looking around - I had no idea a transaction happened! The goods are all from artists and craftsmen, usually local, and have a twisty edge or a quirky point of view. I didn't even know my heart could skip a beat just by looking at a necklace. This was a $5500 necklace mind you. Why would I even ask her to look at it? I have know clue. I don't like people altering their thoughts to what they think I want to hear-just to get me to buy something. Happy to say, there was no B.S. here. We were having fun talking together about art, clumsy loved ones who break things we love, and the conception of Twist. Which started in Eugene, in case you were wondering. They have a wonderful selection of jewelry, all made by artists, some local, most not. There are unique housewares, and even some cute Christmas ornaments. I may have scared you off by the $5500 necklace, but as someone mentioned before- there is something to accommodate a range of budgets. I bought a very cute pair of handmade earrings by a local artist for $22. It's my Christmas present from my grandma. I can be in this store for two hours and not buy one thing! They have jewelry ranging from rocker Chrome Hearts to rings with rubies that used to be on crowns of royalty. They also have every day costume jewelry from local artists, one in particular is from an artist that has OCD where she ties twine and other fine pieces of fibers and make the most beautiful pieces. Magic! The more 'affordable' pieces are every day fun and unique gift items ranging from kitty bowls to 'saint' candles. The customer service here is absolutely outstanding!!! A gal by the name of Molly P went above and beyond to help me. My husband bought a few Slane & Slane pieces from this store several years ago- they are my absolute favorite go to's. Last weekend I lost the bracelet (heartbroken!). I called here Saturday morning first thing trying to track down the collection name and replacement cost for the piece and Molly was great- asking me to send a photo if I had one, slogging through past transactions with very little info from me... we ended up with an estimate that I can work with. The thing that was amazing to me, was this: Molly had no incentive to help me- I am now located in the Bay Area and she knew it. It's not like I am going to walk into her store tomorrow and buy something. It didn't matter at all to her, she was world class. What she didn't know was that I did grow up in Portland and you can bet I will be recommend ing that all my friends and family frequent Twist at every opportunity. Ok, not sure when carrying expensive items = low ratings? I can't believe someone would give a bad rating for that reason. A bad sales experience is one thing, but carrying the best of the best? Come on. Not to mention they actually do have a lot of moderately priced items. I travel all over, and this is the single best collection of jewelry, glass, etc. in the country. The owners/employees are all really cool people and can tell you why every piece is special and was picked to be in their store. Not to mention, these fine people support up and coming artists that need to get their work out in the market. How wonderful is that! I have bought many unique and special pieces from this store that I will enjoy for a long time. When I have a problem, which has been rare, they have always taken care of me. And my friends love the gifts I pick from this establishment. They have come to recognize the "twist gift wrapping" immediately. :) If you're looking for cheap, mass produced costume jewelry, I would recommend heading somewhere else. The jewelry is also tons of fun, with an emphasis on whimsical modern designs in unusual materials. Small artists from all over are featured here. Gift shopping for mom, a housewarming gift, or any big day is well spent here. I love this store! I have purchased a number of pieces here over the years and am always impressed with their customer service and the selection. I live out of state, but visit family and friends in Portland as much as I can. Every time I come to Portland, I come here. I've worked with Aleathea for a number of years and she's always extremely helpful when I come in, even when I can't find something I love. She is also very good about trying to get pieces I like from artists and letting me know when new items that I might like arrive. The shop is well designed, light and airy, with plenty of seating and fun cards to go with any gifts purchased. I always try to find jewelry when I travel, so I am always on the look out for a good jewelry store and I have yet to find one with as much selection, quality, and excellent customer service as Twist. read more

My wife and I loved Cathy Waterman's work and so I started to search online and found that Twist had an incredible selection of her jewelry. I was nervous about spending so much on a ring I could not see in person but Akira helped me every step of the way to feel comfortable about the purchase of the ring. Everything went smoothly and stress free and we both loved the ring. A few years later, the ring was damaged in a car accident and so I contacted Twist about the repair and rebuild and again, the customer service was stellar. Man, when did the update tool become available? I would have written an update to my scenario long ago had I known. Anyway, on to the reason you're reading this. So, third time is a charm, right? So they say...not so in our case. So, when we got the call that the third ring had come in, I told my husband I would go by and pick it up as I work downtown. When I went down, I looked at the ring and compared it to mine (we have the same wedding ring). The overall width of the band was the same but something still looked off. The woman (not our regular sales person) insisted that everything was AOK this time around and I decided it was probably just my own paranoia (plus, I love this place...I want this to work out!). She insisted that what we had previously ordered were the measurements that this ring was and that was the standard for men's rings. So, I took it home and showed it to my husband who said, "That's still not right." I pulled out the paperwork, including the color photocopy our original salesperson had made for us when we were shopping for rings the year before and realize that not only was it not the same but the measurements weren't the same. The woman I had just been dealing with had flat out lied about what we had previously ordered. By this point, I was furious. The following day, I marched back in with the ring, receipts, original order forms and color photocopy in hand. The moment I walked in, the salespeople recognized me and said, "You're here for X (I can't remember her name now), aren't you?" Our original salesperson came out looking timid and annoyed. I pulled out the ring and asked her to measure it. I showed her what was originally ordered and the color photocopy. She looked at me sheepishly and was floundering. She informed me that what was originally ordered was not a men's band and that was the reason for the difference. Ok, fine if that's the case, why didn't you tell me that in the first place?? Instead, they tried to play it off like this was exactly what we had ordered the first time around when it was not. So, she took the ring back, again, and told me she would be in contact when the next one arrived. Fast forward to whenever the 4th ring arrived. My husband and I both went in to look at the ring. By this time, our salesperson was noticeably irritated with us or the situation, it was hard to tell. However, this time, she was finally prepared. She measured the ring in front of us, we approved and were settling things out. My husband asked if the artist had just melted down the old ring to make the new (more as a means of making conversation than anything) and she said in a snide tone, "No, we had to eat the cost of that ring as the artist wouldn't take it back." Moral of the story?? I believe Twist hires inexperienced people to work with fine jewelry sales. Sure, they have wonderful casual/every day things (which these inexperienced people are great at and I have purchased many, many pieces of)...but I expect far, far more in service, not to mention not wanting to feel like some shady deal is being played when it comes to spending thousands on fine jewelry. Our salesperson, and whoever she was consulting with, really screwed up. The sad part is, I really do love Twist. There's nothing like it. I walk by there every time I go into the mall and lament the fact that I will never (nor any of my Twist-loving-family or friends) ever set foot in there again. read more

I use to live in Portland, and would visit Twist whenever I wanted to look at beautiful handmade jewelry. It was always a bit out of my price range but I loved to day dream. Well, the day finally arrived where I was ready to splurge, aka my wedding day, and so far the experience has been nightmarish to say the least. I tried to order from their on-line service, which I do NOT recommend. It kept telling me the address I had entered was incorrect, which it was not. I did this three time before I called the store. I spoke to the manager who asked me multiple times if the address I had entered was indeed the address linked to my credit card. It was was....and I think I know which address my credit card goes to! After multiple attempts, the manager could not figure out what the problem was. I finally had to use another credit card that is linked to another address and the manager asked, "are you sure this address isn't linked to the other card?" YES!!! I'm sure. I have two credit cards and i'm not a stupid, but you're obviously implying I am....AHHHH! Anyway, I've worked in customer service for pretty much all my life and I know for a fact that this is NOT how you handle this sort of situation. Had I not been purchasing the jewelry for my wedding I would've said forget this place a long time ago. I am now stuck with 3 pending authorizations on my credit card that have been there over 4 days and have received no calls or apologies. We loved Amy and Twist! We came in to look for an engagement ring and had a great experience. We did not feel any pressure to buy. Amy was only looking for us to be happy. The biggest and best part for me is how they handled issues as they arose. We love the ring we bought but there were a few small issues. We totally understand that these are handmade rings and there will be some imperfections. But when we brought the ring back in to show Amy, she was super nice and professional about it and sent it back to the jeweler to be repaired at no cost to us.
