A very nice yoga studio. I live in Gladstone which doesn't have a studio to practice in so I went in search of one nearish and found this place. I have attended the prenatal, yin, and power 2 classes. I liked them all but the prenatal was the most special. Low attendance, with check in time, lots of attention, and tips for labor and pain relief. The power 2 class is a fast paced vinyasa and is usually very full. Throughout the pandemic I have developed a daily home yoga practice with the help of on-line teachers. But in late 2021 I was ready for in person instruction again (having had such on and off for a decade prior to the pandemic.) I was thrilled to find a safe and flexible studio 9 minutes from my home in Durham, Oregon. I have taken a wide range of the classes offered, with many different teachers and I have never been disappointed. I find the teachers kind and knowledgeable and sometimes inspirational. I appreciate the requirement of vaccination for in person participation and the options of zoom and on-demand classes. I think my favorite teacher is Cynthia, but honestly it's hard to pick. Twist is enhancing my yoga practice and I am so grateful. read more

They have great yoga instructors. I love Jessica Baker and Cynthia Pedraza, they are my favorites cos they are both so powerful and graceful! Not that the other instructors are any less, my busy schedule just allows me to frequent the teachings of these two amazing instructors. Because of remote work ( or work without boundaries), I can only attend yoga sessions at the last minute. This is why the virtual classes fit my schedule so well. And if meetings take up all my time, I can learn from Cynthia anytime following her from one of the 360+tutorials on-line. I decided to give Twist a try when I had outgrown my gym yoga classes. I didn't really know what joining a "studio" meant and I was nervous about being a newbie amongst expert yogis. From Day 1 I was made to feel welcome and quickly realized that the instructors were all about meeting students where they are at. I left class feeling encouraged and soon I got the yoga bug. There are so many types of classes - I meet my need for a butt-kicking workout in the early AM "Shred" class (cardio boot camp with a bit of yoga) and find my Friday lunchtime​ Zen in Cynthia's flow class. They are always adding new ways to change things up, which I love. But truly the best thing about Twist is the community. The instructors are fabulous​ and I've met many new people since joining "the tribe". For me that is big (and surprising) as I'm typically a "get the workout done and get out kind of gal". I was the "yoga's just not for me" person forever. I envisioned it as something that would require me to be super bendy (I'm not) and mentally still (also not a strong suit). Two years ago, I injured my hamstring running and could no longer run ... and so I decided to try yoga. I was pretty intimidated when I first entered Twist's studios, but everyone was SO welcoming, and I quickly learned that my perceptions about yoga were, well, wrong. I don't live in the area, but I dropped into this studio a month ago to pass the time while my husband and father in law were playing a round of golf for Father's Day. I'm a yoga newbie and was quick to blurt this fact as I paid the drop in fee at the front desk. The instructor, Chelsea, and the owner, Jennifer, were both present and both very welcoming, assuring me that my inexperience was no issue. I got a tour of the facilities as we waited for the other students to arrive and class to start. Twist Yoga is an exquisite studio. All the details are handled here: if you forget a water bottle, they have bottles on hand to lend; they have full bathroom/changing rooms equipped with showers, soap, moisturizer, hygiene products, towels, hair dryers, yoga mat cleaner...the list goes on. Neatly stacked inside and outside the studio you can find blankets, straps and blocks. Mats and towels are included in the price of the drop in fee, as was a welcome snack in the form of almonds. Chelsea was no-nonsense but kind, informative and attentive to all the students (of which I was by far the worst) in her class. The pace was quick but not grueling, with pauses supplied for reflection and meditation as the practice required...along with gentle reminders to breathe or step outside if we were getting overheated. I learned more about maintaining balance and form in an hour of this pleasant hot hatha class than I learned in all three miserable years of high school PE. Pros: Friendly staff and students, obvious expertise in what they teach, gorgeous and secure space, full amenities, offers both hot and regular yoga classes. Cons: Higher prices (drop in fee is $17 as of the date of this review, though it *is* all-inclusive), not so sure I'm personally a fan of hot yoga and I will avoid it in the future. In other words, the cons are pretty much non-existent. For what you receive as a member of this yoga studio, I can assure you they are well worth the price. This is not my normal studio, but you can bet I will come again the next time I'm killing time before visiting my in-laws. read more

I'm in that same boat of being torn between wanting to tell the world how much I love this place and keeping the secret to myself so it doesn't get too crowded. While I wouldn't call myself a loyalist, I had pretty much been a CP girl for the last several years. Because $$$$$$ (ahem), I started looking for a new place to practice and Yelp told me to come to Twist. Twist is the studio I've been looking for. I feel like I've learned more in just the last few months at Twist than in the last eight years I've been doing yoga. I love all the teachers - I usually get myself out of bed for the 5:30AM classes, and it's so worth it. Each instructor has their own unique style of teaching and I come away with something new almost every class. At other studios, there were so many asanas and postures that I wondered where on earth people learned them - they definitely weren't teaching them. Twist will break down the more advanced postures and help you progress in so many ways. The Shred classes are tough, but are addicting and a ton of fun. The Power classes don't have the cardio aspect of course, but I always leave feeling like I got my butt completely kicked anyway. Plenty of core and strength work here! And I come back, day after day. Twist, you are awesome. read more

I just finished up 15 weeks of classes at Twist Yoga, and enjoyed every single class. I took Jess's evening Flow Yoga class, so I can only speak to my experiences with her - but everything was great, and I plan to be back when I can. Highly recommend! Classes were perfectly paced with some poses you hold for a while and really get into, and some fast paced flows to balance it out. Jess always balances what we did from week to week (twists, lower body, upper body, faster classes, slower classes), so after so many weeks I feel stronger in every area. I found her to be really helpful, a great mix of instructional and motivational (especially on the longer holds). And the music in class was always spot on. The studio is small but really nice. It can get pretty warm in the room, especially when you're working hard. Only downside is parking can be a bit limited, but that's not something Twist Yoga can really control. read more

I first heard of Twist Yoga when I went to one of their retreats last October with a girlfriend of mine. Since then I have been hooked! My schedule only allows for at home workouts and the occasional in studio class and this is why I love Twist! I have been doing online classes for over 5 months now and Love the convenience of them and the variety! I do try to get in studio as often as I can, but I love the fact that the classes I take online are the same teachers as in studio, makes me feel more connected to this tribe! read more

The teachers are friendly and seem knowledgeable, i did a bunch of power yoga 2 classes and a couple fusion 75 minute classes and they were just ok. I've been at corepower for a couple years and was looking for something a little more challenging and less scripted, more innovative with new poses and the flow, etc., but this was definitely a step in the opposite direction and made me really appreciate CP. The classes were slooooow and without any extra technique or new poses added in to justify the pace. So it just means a lot more time in down dog or on your back. The hour long classes probably went through less than half the poses you'd get in an hour at CP, and of course getting through more poses isn't the point, I'm just mentioning it for reference and because it was frustrating not to ever be in much of a flow during class. When arm balances or inversions were mentioned it was in passing like "if you want to take them" with no instructions. And also no room to do them, which brings me to my other complaint, this place is so tiny. SO tiny. To the point of fostering a stressful experience rather than peaceful. Not to mention not getting as much out of one's practice. Yesterday the instructor said: feel free to take hurdlers, and i had to laugh because there was no way for anyone to do it without kicking their neighbor. I took weekend and week day classes and there was never more than 10 inches between my mat and the ones on either side. the entrance and the hallway are like a closet - from the minute you walk in you're on top of everyone else and I felt like I had to do that thing where you fold your shoulders in and stand sideways just to get around the studio. I got splashed by someone at the drinking fountain because there isn't much room to get around it, i always felt like i was in the middle of people's conversations, there's no way to browse the merchandise without blocking the front desk, and so on. Also, they let people into the yoga room late, even if it means asking half the class to stop their practice and drag their mats around to squeeze in one more. That would never happen at CP or any other studio class I know of around here. read more

I really never thought I'd do yoga. My mother used to beg me to go, I thought I had to "run it out" to "get it out", then came TWIST. This community of really knowledgeable, compassionate, grounded yoga teachers, the owner herself, and the lovely yoga studio has changed how I "get it out". Mostly, it's taught me to go inside, to breathe, to listen, and to go out into the world with more intention and compassion. But did I mention the workout? Best in town! After struggling with Bikram's I tried Twist hot yoga. I'm in love. I cannot wait to go back. This could get addicting! I'm a 1-2 level at best and there are very talented students in their class but I didn't feel out of place or shamed (yes, I've been to yoga studios that made me feel shamed). I miss this place already! I was in town for 3 weeks over the holidays and selected them just because they were nearby and had an excellent "new student special." I could not have been more pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, a vibe set both by the instructors and the aesthetics of the studio. (e.g. The instructors were kind and didn't hesitate to reach out; I got a tour of the studio within a few minutes of arriving, and personal welcome emails after class.) Then the room itself with the dimmed lights, pleasantly warm temperature, and soft twinkling lights along the perimeter of the room immediately brightened my mood. The instruction too was outstanding - thoughtful, articulate, and thorough. I didn't lose my place once which is typical for me when learning new postures. Great variety of classes as well - some made me sweat, while some were more about flexibility. Quite simply, I loved this place. It made me fall back in love with yoga and challenged my concept of what is possible in a studio. I've been to so many; ones that are chilly and aloof, or pushy with over-the-top cheerfulness, and others where everyone is nice but timid and speaks in whispers so there's this feeling of walking on eggshells. It is not easy to hold a space (in any circumstance) that feels both grounded and joyful but Twist has done it - and with exceptional instruction to boot! I will be measuring all future yoga experiences by this one! read more

I love Twist Yoga. I used to say "I hate yoga" and actually have tried quite a few yoga studios in the Portland area. I was told about this studio by a very good friend and really dragged my feet going in. Now I go every day. Sometimes twice a day. It has changed my life both mentally and physically. The studio offers something for every person from Yin Yoga to Core Shred. Every teacher I have had is very very good. They all really care that you are satisfied and they give their all. I love the warm temperature in the studio which was another part I did not think I would like. I feel extremely grateful I found this place. You can dress any which way and age does not matter. You are accepted For who you are. Check in is very efficient. They have many many incredible online classes. It is one of the best kept secrets in the Portland area. Twist Yoga studio provides an amazing experience to not only center yourself through stretching and mediation, but with the bits of wisdom provided by the instructors. The wisdom they share with you st the end of your class leaves you motivated for the day. The peaceful environment welcomes not only advanced yogis but also warmly welcomes the beginners, and those of us with injures. It's a lot of fun to watch the advanced studios strike poses that someday may happen for me. However, everyone is warmly welcomed. One aspect I particularly like about the instructors at Twist is they accept you as you are and encourage you to be in tune with your body on any given day. They motivate you to challenge yourself but encourage you to honor your body and the space you are in on any given day. This flexible expectation of the instructors is refreshing! They have helped bring a peaceful sense of power back into my life. I highly recommend Twist Yoga! read more
