They've got a perfect score for a reason. Store INSANELY clean & organized. The staff, love them, and we just met! Haha 12/10 experience, highly recommend. Haven't cooked with any of the spices yet, but I'm excited and looking forward to visiting again.

Awesome spice shop- they have everything you'll need a more. My friends and I have been using their Ghost Pepper Sea Salt- drip some lime on the top of a Modelo can, then sprinkle some of sea salt on the top. It adds a Smokey mild heat that is fantastic and not as hot as you might think. I've also gone next door to Grand Lake Kitchen and sprinkled it on the top of their Salty Dog slushie and it's fantastic. Highly recommended!

Oak Town spice shop is a great place to stop by if you're having a leisurely stroll by the lake or looking to grab gifts for loved ones. They've got a great spice collection and often have new blends available. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I recently stopped by to grab some gifts for old coworkers. I grabbed them some smoked salts while grabbing some chili oil for myself. Pro tip: make sure to smell some of their items including their smoked salts! Everything smells wonderful. Will return for more hauls in the future.

Oaktown Spice Shop is AMAZING! Truly a local gem. I stopped by about 30 minutes before closing on a Thursday evening and I wished I had planned to come in sooner, just so I could spend more time browsing the store. This is a chef/cook/baker's dream store. They have every spice imaginable and some I didn't even know were available (I had no idea there were so many choices for cinnamon). They also have teas, sauces, cookbooks, and other great gifts and ingredient - many of which were created by local makers. I love that they even have some signed cookbooks by local chefs. The staff was so kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. Even though we were the very last people in the store, they never made us feel rushed. We easily found metered parking on the street right up front but on a nice day, you could definitely park farther and take a nice walk around the lake area.

A fun store that sells (almost) every spice you can think of - I did stump them with one I had read about and wanted to find as Christmas gifts. A little overpriced for my budget - but if you were looking for fun (and beautifully packaged) gift sets for the holidays, this would be the place to hit up. They also have a macaron person (unrelated to the store) INSIDE the store - that was the reason we came in.

This is a lovely spice store by the lake. The service is great and everyone working there is so friendly. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had cocktail mixers/bitters and cocktail making tool. I am a novice mixologist so it's fun to see new mixes! They also have tea blends like Chai, Earl Grey, & Green tea. They have all the spices you could ever need go cook flavorful meal. Here are some I saw: -All the basics: Salt, Pepper, Garlic, Green Onion, Shallots, Chili Peppers, Chile Lemon -Persian Lime Curry Rub -Jerk Rub -Japanese Curry -Garam Masala They also have cook books and recipe recommendations. I love this place and I recommend it as a one stop shop for good quality spices!

Glad to see Oaktown Spice Shop still in business post pandemic and still pretty busy on a weekend! Located right around Lake Merritt, parking isn't too bad but there's street parking. Lots of people walking and passing by. So many spices and other cool things you can get from this place. Spices from all different places and perfect for a white elephant gifts too to mix and match and they come with recipes!

Let me start with those sunflower and date cookies that are supposed to be "freshly baked." Not so. Stale as can be! And the store refused to take them back or offer a refund or store credit. The "organic" white and yellow popcorn. STALE! I tried 3 different methods of popping with stale results all 3 times. Staff's reaction? Defensiveness and no offer of a reasonable solution...had to "match" the price to another item of the same value. Ridiculous. Honestly, I thought I was in Farmer Joe's for a minute! Finally, that bulk "large flake" yeast can be sketchy looking. Strange dark blotches of who-knows-what mixed in. This I did not take back...I just threw it out. Never shopping there again...I detest rude and unfriendly staff at a business where I'm spending my sparse, fixed income money!

The customer service could use improvement. Today I was treated very poorly by a female sales person with glasses. Having little experience with how the store works (customers weight their own items before approaching the cashier for payment and confusion regarding the coffee pricing which was unclear to me). She lead me around a corner where no one could hear her and was very rude to me. I left the store without making a purchase. When products are average and service is good - I always return. When products are good but I am treated poorly - it doesn't work for me. It's unfortunate because the store could be very useful to me.

Raw, they were terrible--so much so that I was skeptical--but we dried them and used them to make homemade Berbere spice. The homemade Berbere spice was fantastic with complex layers of flavors from the pepper and different spices. We've been using it ever since to make Ethiopian food at home- sadly, we just finished the last of it. I enjoy going out for Ethiopian food, but making it at home has been a revelation. The flavors are incredible, especially Berbere red lentils, which are easy to make and very delicious. But we are not ambitious enough to make Injera from scratch. Luckily, we stumbled upon Abyssinia Market in Oakland, which makes and sells Injera. It's inexpensive, delicious, and keeps well in the fridge. To warm it up, we just put it on a plate, cover it with a damp paper towel, and microwave it. Beyond Ethiopian food, we've found that Injera pairs well with all sorts of dishes--everything from eggs in the morning to Middle Eastern and Greek dips. Tonight, we had it with roasted Japanese sweet potatoes and Aji Verde sauce. If you haven't tried their Injera yet, I highly recommend it!
