We were asked to leave the restaurant after we spent a good amount of money due to the reasoning that there was a long wait and she needed a table available. I have never been told to leave a restaurant because of poor management needing a table. I will not be returning. Learn how to manage your restaurant without having to tell costumers to leave. Please don't do it. I USED to LOVE this place for as long as I remember. I did a 4.5 year stint in CA and just moved back. I called AHEAD of time and was assured the bar was open until 2am. I took a $20+ uber from very nearby ocean city and when I arrived just BEFORE midnight, I was told they already had last call. I'm very reasonable (people were still there). I explained I just moved back HOME from CA and was told 2am when I called. Everyone turned me down. But I'm persistent and polite (I expertise in customer service). FINALLY, the guy in charge allowed me to have a draft beer. Outside. Not the homecoming, nor the Twistie's we all knew. Plus, their menu updates are lame. This place was known for great food and portions, WHICH IS NO MORE!!! It's turned into a lying, false advertising, Bobo, overpriced shore bar - something it never was!!! Don't go here if you have any type of food allergy as they will NOT accommodate them. My son has a milk allergy and they would not make him a piece of grilled fish because, "their entire kitchen is cross-contaminated". He is 14 years old and we've eaten at restaurants across the country, Mexico, and Bahamas and we have NEVER encountered this issue. Grill a piece of fish on a clean skillet with olive oil, how hard is that? They refused. After waiting 45 minutes to be seated, our table of 8 had to leave and eat across the street to La Fontana. At La Fontana they were more that happy to grill some bronzino for him. I would NOT recommend Twisties! read more

First time in 5 years or so and Twisties is the same place I remember as a 7 year old. The same eclectic decor with great food and beer. We had minestrone and grilled mahi- mahi on a Kaiser Roll with fries. Everything was simply superb. read more

Our annual trip to sea isle and we wanted a guys lunch out. Many of the SI, Avalon and stone harbor establishments have been updated. Found this classic beach bar. On Yelp. Stopped for lunch with Dad. Nice beer on tap goose island, victory and the "usual suspects" Lager, coors lite, etc. We enjoyed a Good bowl of NE clam chowder and crab cake sandwich. Great setting, good food, and very friendly staff. We will return. read more

Tricky to find but super locals bar. Burgers really grilled, but more importantly, when i asked for linguine with clam sauce to have lots of clams they took me seriously. So good iI only bothered to eat about three bites of simple but very good salad. We were really impressed by the food You order drinks from the bartender. Beers are limited but appropriately cold. Decent selection of booze. Food is ordered from a waitress. Apparently the restaurant is a sort of sublease. All staff is friendly and clientele very knowledgable about local fishing. This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a review either good or bad. My meal last night was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. We started with the mussels in a lemongrass ginger sauce, I was reluctant to try this instead of the typical red but with a little arm twisting from my fiancée we ordered them. The mussels were cooked perfectly but the sauce was nothing short of amazing. My fiancée said she was going to come back every day to order this. We started by sucking down the broth using the empty mussel shells as a spoon, I then proceeded polishing off a loaf of bread in attempt to get every last drop. For the entree I ordered the roasted corn crab cake. I am a crab cake lover, it is usually what I order the first time I visit a restaurant. Typically, I prefer just plain crab cakes but decided to give this one a try. I would definitely order this one again, it was delicious! It was crispy and full of lump crab and the roasted corn added a dimension I had previously not considered. The only negative was that my fiancée's seared tuna was a bit over cooked but was still very good. Our server, Maura was very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere, as others have said "is what it is". We love it here and will surely return very soon. read more

Seriously, try it. We pulled up and thought, "this looks like a hole in the wall, not a kid friendly restaurant" but we decided to give it a try. We were immediately greeted by a patron who said to our whining 2 year old "you can't be too loud for twisties" we knew our kids would be treated well. We were waiting for our table when our starving 6 year old started to melt down, we went to tell the super friendly hostess we would have to come another time, as the 6 year old was indicating she couldn't wait for food. She said "if you can Give me 5 more minutes, I'll have your table, I'll bring crayons and crackers for your kiddos, I have been there!" Loved her! We stayed, and I had the mussels (delicious) my husband had the Cuban, he loved it. The kids chicken fingers, and spaghetti with meatball. We were all happy with their and the super friendly service. My wife and I decided to finally try this place after vacationing in Strathmere for years. We finally learned to stay far away from the Deuville Inn. Twisties was such a wonderful discovery! We chose to eat our lunch on their small but cozy deck overlooking the bay. We were greeted by friendly waitress staff as 2 seemed to work as a team to keep patrons tended to. We started with their Nachos, figuring it was a safe order to try a new place. When they were brought out, it looked like a work of art...definately not expecting this quality coming from this sort of place. It was stacked high, loaded with chicken, bery colorful with their fresh (and what seemed liked) home-made salsa. After devourimg the plate, we decided to go ahead and try more, so we ordered shrimp tacos. Again, very well presented on the plate with color. But the taste was even greater. I suppose because we did not expect this mind of top notch food from this type of place...but it really was put of this world. The chef they have is certainly very very good and creative. We did tell the waitresses to please give him our kudos. Twisties will certainly be our go-to place each and every visit to Strathmere from now on. Trust me...it is worth the try. read more

My family and I have been coming to Strathmere for my entire life. Twisties has always been one of our go-tos for good food and good vibes for the many years that we have come to the Jersey shore. However, this year, when we went to Twisties for a Thursday evening dinner, after calling ahead asking for what time would accommodate all of us, our party was turned down. It was 5 o'clock, and the place had multitudes of space and open tables. Half of the party had already been seated, and then the other half of our party arrived. The half that had been seated consisted of 10 people. The other half arrived with 9 people, and when they approached the hostess, they were turned down and told that they could not be seated. They explained that they were okay with sitting separately; 5 and 4, or any other suggested combination in order to make it easier for the hostess, but they were sent away. May I remind you that there were MANY tables open in the dining room of this establishment. After much explaining to the hostess, she still did not seat us. Once again may I say there were upwards of 8 tables open. When the hostess was asked whether she would seat a table of four and a table of five if two separate families entered after us, we were told that they would be seated. This is not only illogical, but it is also rude. Right when a party of four arrived at Twisties a few minutes after our party, they were immediately seated. The discrimination against large families that this shows is an atrocity. The service and the attitude that was portrayed at this establishment this evening makes me full of regrets that my large family has given so much business to Twisties in the past. This restaurant has lost its customers of 40 years for this summer and the summers to come. read more

We had asked the previous day of twisties could accommodate our party of around 20. They said that if we showed up at 5, then they could. At 5, half our party arrived and they were seated. At 5:10, the 9 of us left, came in to join them and we were told that they couldn't seat us because our party was too big. We then asked to be seated separately, not associated with the rest, as 5, 4, and then the 10 that were seated. The hostess said they couldn't do that, she was rude, and didn't make any sense. Confused, we asked if another party of 4 and 5 were to walk in, would they seat them. She said yes! There were 7 empty tables inside, but she still wouldn't seat the 9 of us!!! A family of 4 behind us were immediately seated. Twisties is the one of the best bars in NJ?- No way! Can't tell you how the food was, because WE WERE DENIED SERVICE. All 19 of us left the bar. Great food right behind our rented beach house!!

Party of 6, arrived at 7:30 on a Friday night. Had a 30 minute wait. We sat outside on the deck and watched the sunset while we waited. Seated within the 30 minute window. Inside it's basically one big room, with the bar area adjacent in a bit of a L shape. The place is boisterous, fun, and loud. We really couldn't hear our seat mates talking without straining to hear. So if you like a quiet atmosphere, and some privacy, this place ain't it. Waitress quickly took our drink orders, she was super friendly. Hubs and I ordered the clam chowder, and all of us ordered dinners. We had the Cuban sandwich, hamburger, meatball sandwich, margarita pizza, seafood pizza, and crab pizza. Waited about a half hour for food, and unfortunately our soups never came out. Dinner came by busboy, and waitress came over within a minute to check to see if everything was alright. We reminded her about our soups, she was very apologetic, asked us if we still wanted it, but told her we only wanted one to split. Food was ok to good, everyone in our party liked their meal, soup was alright, but nothing was spectacular. Prices were reasonable, as well. 6 dinners, 1 soup, 4 soft drinks and 2 bar drinks were $127. My only suggestion to this place would be to expand on the deck, it is a gorgeous bay view, but only 3 tables that do not have food service. You can get drinks from the bar and bring them out. The place has been around forever, and maybe they don't want to expand, but there is a lot of space outside. Just a thought. Caveat: hubs had a rough night stomach wise. Not sure if it was a bad reaction to the food, but he says he will never go there again. Rest of party was fine. read more

Great place to go watch a game with friends. Food is delicious, excellent cold beer, very good cocktails. The best thing about Twisties, are the very friendly staff who provided excellent service. This is a hunker down bar, with great a atmosphere for spending an afternoon with friends. They also have a small deck if you need to decompress from a long day dealing with people like Annie, who are just wound too tight, to appreciate a gem like Twisties. If you like eating your salad, appetizer and entree all at the same time come here! We had our salad and bread delivered, then 2-4 mins later we received our appetizer, which sat there until we were able to finish our salads. Isn't an appetizer suppose to come before a salad? When our entrees came out 5 minutes after we received our appetizer, which hadn't been touched yet, we asked for it to be sent back because we were being rushed. The lady delivering them wanted to place it on the empty table next to us, yeah sure we'll just grab our dinners when we're ready. 3 minutes later you could hear the chef repeatedly hitting the bell calling for a server to take food in his window, yup this was our food and no we weren't finished our appetizer yet. We ended up sending the entrees back and left. Shrimp tacos were okay, bread was good but both were difficult to actually enjoy when you're forced to eat quickly. read more

If I could give negative zero stars, I would. I dined here with my husband, daughter, her boyfriend and my autistic grandson, who due to at textural issues with food, will only eat very few things that we pack for him. We've eaten here several times in the past, with our packed meal for grandson and never had any issue. However this time, at the end of our meal, we were approached by the server, who informed us that due to New Jersey state law we could not bring outside food into the restaurant. We were specifically informed that the owner told the server to inform us of this. We know no such law exists and we informed the server that even if it did it would apply to our autistic grandson. Twistie's- You're not cool; you're not hip; you're not hipster-you're a discriminatory business who decided to pick on an autistic eight-year-old. Not cool. my new love of surfing has been taking me to the jersey shore. strathmere is less populated, no beach tags and parking is plentiful. after getting my ass kicked again by the unforgiving ocean, we worked up an appetite and a need for cocktails. twisties was right across the street. i LOVE anywhere with outside seating. this sits on the bay with the most beautiful view. and thats where the 3 stars come in. everything else? kinda sucked. service was slow or non existant. we waited 45 minutes for a flatbread pizza and my friends beer sat empty for what seemed like hours while the bartender talked to locals. there doesnt seem to be any urgency for staff to make a buck. as a former bartender with a mouth to feed, i always hustled. upsold and engaged customers. i wanted them to stay until i got every dime out of their pockets, all while providing a great experience so they would come back. not saying i wont return. as long as i can surf and like drinks outside ill be back, just with lowered expectations. read more
