First impressions are always interesting. Steps to back entrance from parking lot are disgusting. Filthy hand railings, dirty steps and deck. Sorely in need of paint. Both entry doors are equally horrible. Almost makes you not want to stay. Dining room was recently redone. It's welcoming and pleasant. Waitresses was excellent and the food was very good. The men's restroom needs attention as well. It's "seedy " and generally dirty. Floor needs thorough scrubbing. I've often thought if the bathroom is this bad, what does the kitchen look like. Let's start with the "seafood." I ordered the flounder, but what I actually received was a structural engineering project made of rubbery, grey fake crab. The fish didn't die for this; it died of embarrassment. Then came the Chicken Parm. For $35, I expected a culinary masterpiece. Instead, they served me a golden-fried absolute unit of a chicken breast that must have been harvested from a radioactive pterodactyl. It was so impossibly giant, yet so catastrophically dry, I'm pretty sure swallowing a single bite sucked all the residual moisture straight out of my eyeballs. It tasted like seasoned acoustic ceiling tile. As for the sides? Absolute criminal negligence. The potatoes had that distinct, rubbery, thermonuclear glow that can only be achieved by a 4-minute-and-30-second ride in a 1990s Breakroom Microwave. Meanwhile, the green beans were on the exact opposite end of the thermal spectrum--shockingly hard, unseasoned, and literally ice-cold, as if they had just been excavated from a permafrost glacier in Siberia. (This is a 4.5 star review) I went to anchorage tavern with my friend's family on a Saturday night. It was pretty busy when we arrived around 6:45. We waited around 25 minutes, but that's kind of to be expected as a large group (there were 12 of us). I was in an alcohol mood, so I ended up ordering the cucumber mojito and a berry rum drink (both $11-14). I wasn't a huge fan of the cucumber drink, but I really liked the rum! It tasted like a berry smoothie. For food, we ordered mozzarella sticks ($11) for the table, which were a huge hit. Everyone was raving about the mozz sticks and apparently this place is well known for them (for good reason). There was an epic cheese pull and they were fried really well for a nice crunch on the outside. As an entree, my friend and I split the seafood posolippo ($28) with white sauce, linguine, clams, shrimp, scallops, mussels, and mahi mahi cooked in Chardonnay and mixed with Italian spices. It was delightful and a seafood lovers dream. Add a touch of lemon for the perfect bite. I liked this place! It's a louder pub feel, but the staff knows what they're doing. The servers are great, and we still appreciate the Wednesday trivia nights, but the chicken parm has changed significantly. Unfortunately, the place just doesn't have the same nostalgia or charm it had before it changed hands. Oyster Rockefellers came out cold. read more

Visited during off season (Oct) While busy, the wait for a outside table was at most 10 min. Seemed like the regulars / locals, but were very welcomed. Nice wooden bar, good hometown bar feel. Waitress was quick with the drinks. For appetizers we had Crab and spinach dip and a cup of the Crab bisque, both were very good well seasoned and fresh. For dinner we had the Guy Fieri combo and a Parmesan crusted Grouper. While both were good the wife and I thought the Parmesan Grouper was better. For desert we split the Dark side of the moon with a fresh cup of coffee, Amazing! The whole evening was awesome- glad I could show my southern with that the jersey shore is not a TV show. read more

Amazing place to eat. We arrived and had to wait 15 minutes for table, but it was worth the wait. We sat down and ordered wings well done. Those wings were amazing. They were well done to our liking with a spicy sauce. We ordered a cheese burger, lobster Mac and Cheese, a Philly Cheesesteak, and two children burgers. The food was amazing. It was one of the best Philly Cheesesteaks I have ever had and that's because they use cheese wiz. Our waiter was great and stayed on top of the table. The place is clean with plenty of staff to take orders. They have a parking lot and overall it was an amazing experience. It did cost me a t-shirt since I got wing sauce on it, but it was well worth it. read more

Good lunch find on a Friday afternoon. The private parking lot had plenty of spots and the outside as well as the inside were beautifully decorated for Halloween. They really went all out! Great atmosphere, the history on the walls and some of the frames are stunning. We were seated in the side dining are, the porch was packed and the tavern was just about full. Our server was prompt, friendly and gave some great recommendations. Drink wise my wife enjoyed the Pomegranate Cosmo and I stuck to the Cape May IPA on draft. The beer list wasn't very extensive so I kept it simple, but they did have a full bar and just under a dozen drink specials. The food menu had a lot of great choices. I split the Crab Bisque with my wife. it had a lot of lump crab meat, was creamy, tasty and a solid safe pick at $9 a bowl. My mother and wife split the Stuffed Mushroom Caps - stuffed with our famous crab cake and baked to perfection. Topped with sauce hollandaise $16. They weren't blown away and reported them to be ok. I had the Jumping Barbecue Shrimp - wrapped with hickory smoked bacon and marinated in house barbecue sauce. Charbroiled to perfection $14. I wasn't very impressed by them. They were charred a bit too much and the sauce overpowered any flavoring of the shrimp and the bacon was meh. My wife had the Caesar salad with grilled chicken and said it was a nice portion and typical, but good. My mother enjoyed a crab cake sandwich and I had the Fresh Catch Sandwich - choice of Fresh Fried Flounder (I went with this) or Charbroiled Mahi Mahi. Served on a Kaiser roll with lettuce, tomato, tartar sauce and fries. It was a decent portion for lunch. There was nothing flashy about it, but the flounder was fresh, simple and had good flavor. We really enjoyed the ambiance and good service at the Anchorage. I had never heard of it before so a dinner stop would probably be a fairer judge of their more complex dishes. If you don't know, The Anchorage is a local bar, which Shoobie appeal. Very comfortable Porch, tavern and dining room seating with TVs covering every sight line. First off the beer batter mozzarella sticks are amazing!!! With that out of the way we were here during a 4:00pm Eagle's game so lots of locals and a good thing the Eagles were winning. They have a good selection of local and premium beers on tap. My wife thought the seasonal drink list was also pretty good. My Grilled Cheese was not great, but my wife's Anchorage chicken melt was phenomenal. So I'll be getting that next time. read more

This busy popular spot in Somers Point NJ was a mixed bag on our visit. We had a hour wait,no problem we expected that. Belly up to the bar to find three bartenders all on one side of the bar where the service bar is and I'm guessing regulars they might favor. Took a good 15 minutes to make eye contact with one of them,and not exactly a warm reception. We ate outside which was nice on a pleasant summer evening. Oyster shooters were a little dry without much oyster liquor and a splash of cocktail sauce (I'm thinking preshucked and prepped ahead??) calamari was on point,entrees were all tasty served in a timely manner with exception of the buffalo chicken tender salad which one of our guests had gotten there before,maybe 3 pieces of chicken on top,ouch! Went for dinner with friends. Had eggplant parmigiana app and cheeseburger. Eggplant was like a stack. Thinly sliced eggplant. It was excellent and easily big enough for 2-3 people. Cheeseburger was excellent and cooked to perfect medium. Potato roll would have been a nice complement. read more

Arrived at 4:20 on a Sunday afternoon and had no wait for a table. Unfortunately, it was 10 minutes before we saw a waitress. My wife ordered a smoked old fashioned which was ok. Appetizer of spicy wings was good. They were spicy and very large wings so yay'. My wife ordered lobster franceses while I had the shrimp aurora as an entree. People seated behind us came in after us but got served before us despite them also having an appetizer and entree. The ambiance of the place would have been better but for the gruff sounding and quite loud bartender at a side bar. Even though they had 2 bars open, it didn't speed up the delivery of drinks, by the way. There came a point where I was about to give up and just go somewhere else. My wife actually set a timer for 7 minutes and if the food was not delivered we were gonna settle the bill and leave. However the food arrived and was quite underwhelming. My wife's linguini portion couldn't feed a three year old. The lobster was supposed to be lemony , had doughy coating, and was not all that tasteful. We did take a doggy bag because badly prepared lobster is better than no lobster. The manager did talk to us and registered our complaints. Although he took a percentage off our check and although a nice gesture, despite having high hopes and having heard so much about this place, we won't be paying them a visit anymore anytime soon. read more

This place is steadily going down hill since it was sold. Been going here over 20 years. This is my 3rd meal in 3 months that im just bummed about. Not awful just not what it was. Got a Bonzai Chicken sandwich. The chicken and sauce is the same. The bun isnt what it was. Not a fan. Some generic bun out of a bag. Got 1/2 the fries than we used to get. The lettuce was starting to wilt...tomato was soft...pickles straight mushy. My wife got the stacked meatloaf. It was ok. Basically reheated meatloaf. The lady next to me had a dish with lobster tail on it and I kept smelling BAD seafood. 2 minutes later she caught the waitress and complained it was bad. Dirty salad dish not taken away. I had to move it so they could put the meal down and it was left on the table. Service has gone down hill. Still like the ambiance but im less and less excited to hit up what was once my favorite place. read more

We had a great late lunch/early dinner at the Anchorage last weekend. We arrived around 3:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. By the time we left an hour later, the place was literally swarming, inside and out. We were glad we got there when we did. We (me, my three daughters, and three grandsons ages 5 and under) sat on the porch overlooking the bay and it was just perfect. The food was great - salads, fried mushrooms, sandwiches, etc. My oldest grandson loved the fried flounder kids meal and the portion was huge - he had enough left for dinner and a snack the next day. He also loved both of the sauces that came with it. Our waitress was also very sweet and attentive. My BFF who lives in OC recommended that we eat at the Anchorage before heading home from visiting her, and we were glad that she recommended it. We are already planning to stop there again on our next trip to OC. Great little spot! read more

Service was slow at first to take our drink orders, but we received our food quickly. The quesadillas were great. Chicken parm and fried flounder were good. We come here once or twice a summer every year when we're down the shore. It's always a great experience with great food and great service, all in an old 19th century tavern. If it's your first time in the area, this is a true Jersey Shore institution and deserves to be on your list. It often gets wildly crowded, with no spaces left in the parking lot. Every time we come there is usually an insane wait of 45 minutes - 1 hour, so make sure to plan for this. We usually park on a side street and go have a drink at Gregory's Bar a block away and wait for them to call us when our table is ready. Always works out well. Lots of seating options, from the porch with view of the bay, to the old dark wood bar, to the two cozy dining rooms. Lots of variety in the menu: Italian specialties, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, and of course sea food. We always order seafood which is very good and prices are decent. Seafood entrees come with a house salad and two sides, none of which are anything special. We came here last night and my girlfriend ordered the seafood Milan and I ordered the stuffed scampi San Marcos. Both were very good. It's also family friendly with a kids menu and paper and crayons for little kids. Overall we know what to expect here and have never been disappointed over the years, from the food to the service, so bonus for consistency. read more

Our go to restaurant when we are in Ocean City. Great varied menu and they do everything well. Excellent bar with fun cocktails. Had an outstanding server last night Julia J. First the waiter brought over water with a very nice long hair hanging from it, we told him and he looked at said he would be right back( gross) I was ready to leave !!!! I ordered fish and chips aka they said French fries. It was 3 very large potato wedges that weren't cooked inside and the cod was very mushy inside. We just came from this Tavern, there were 4 of us. 3 of us had a wonderful meal, but 1 meal they just couldn't cook the filet mignon medium rare. They tried 3 times, and then they just gave him an extra lobster tail. My boyfriend had 2 drinks, they were the same drinks and tasted lousy, he also had the cole slaw that tasted like crab fries the ice tea didn't taste anything like tea.
