I'm afraid it's Jake fault I spent the second half of my honeymoon on my iPad. Our wedding pictures were so truly spectacular - so perfectly captured the excitement and energy and beauty of the wedding, so clearly communicated the absolute JOY of everyone there - that I couldn't stop looking at them. It's true that it goes by so quickly that it's all a blur, but his shots saved every minute of it for us. Hire this man - immediately. Right away, Jake's demeanor puts you at ease; I knew from our first meeting that we would be completely comfortable spending our wedding day with him. He was also entirely buttoned up and professional, checking in with me regularly, reconfirming details and making sure he knew exactly what we hoped for. Meet with Jake! You won't regret it. And you'll probably leave your first meeting with him knowing you have a fantastic wedding photographer - like we did :) We were married in June 2011 so what follows is a revision of my original review. Jake is a breath of fresh air - a true artist and a really caring, down-to-earth guy. His pictures are clearly a step above in quality from all the other top-rated photographers we looked at. His portraits and shots are indescribably beautiful and timeless - he preserves the vibrant colors, stories and emotions so well. He also drew up several customized packages for us, and all of them were very reasonable in price. Our wedding pictures are, in a word, spectacular. We are still getting comments on how breathtakingly beautiful they are. We CANNOT stop looking at them ;) For our final album, we had to narrow it down to 100 pictures of "favorites" and we had so many that we loved (over 200) that choosing the ultimate 100 was unbelievably difficult! It was like pulling teeth! We still have at least a dozen photos all contending for the prize of "being blown up and put above our mantel." We still can't decide. Jake and his assistant Alain were fantastic the day of the wedding. They apparently were everywhere, taking great pictures of everything, even though we didn't notice. As an example, each table had a different "band" name/album on it, and they took a picture of every one. Picking a photographer for your wedding can be a difficult process. We had a long list of photographers who were recommended on Yelp. Then we made a shortlist based on the portfolios that we liked and met with them. They were all great in their own right but Jake really stood out for us. We looked at books of photos at other companies and out of 1,000 photos each one had ~50 that were really good and would look great in an album. When we looked through Jake's books that number was much higher and it would have been easier to count the photos that were not amazing. We scheduled an engagment shoot and this was well worth it. We met up with Jake and he helped us to relax and brought us to the places that we had chosen in our neighbourhood. I think the key here was to trust Jake. What felt to us as pretty awkwad came out as amazing photos. He knows his stuff and chose great angles / backdrops / stances for us and everyone was hugely impressed with the resulting photos. This helped when it came to the wedding day as we then had complete trust in whatever Jake wanted us to do. He was also very responsive and flexible with all of the requests that we had so we got the best of all worlds. We did all of the necessary formals which turned out great, but what we wanted and where Jake shone was the candid photos. He has a gift in his ability to capture true emotions. The pictures really show the whole range of emotions you feel throughout your wedding day and I know we are going to treasure them forever. My wife and I had the pleasure of getting our engagement and wedding pictures taken by Jake, who is in charge of JPP studios. I just want to echo the similar sentiments and how impressed we were with Jake's work for our wedding. It really is remarkable the emotion and reaction shots that Jake was able to capture. I have a video of us making our entrance to the reception down an escalator and you can see Jake taking photos of the crowd for the reaction shot, switching cameras in a split second, and then catching us right as we came down. We met with several (pricey) photographers before meeting with Jake and non of them compared with Jake's work. We knew right away after meeting with Jake he would be our photographer. He was not only laid back and made us feel at ease, but he seemed to really take interest in what we were looking for in a photographer- more of a photojournalism/artistic approach which would tell the story of our wedding day. We started with an engagement session in our neighborhood. We were a little nervous but Jake helped us to feel comfortable after a few shots. Jake is really wonderful. I'm an art director, and aside from being extra picky, we also didn't want traditional posed wedding photos. We began planning our wedding before we were even engaged (thankfully I had a then boyfriend who understood my reasoning why I couldn't be going to grad school, working full-time AND be engaged all at once, haha). Coming out of the wedding with beautifully captured moments was at the top of my "musts" list, so the very first thing we did after securing a venue for our New Years Eve wedding was search for a photographer. After browsing different shooting styles, I settled on the fact that I wanted a documentary style photographer who shot beautiful candids, had excellent color and black-and-white photos and shot impressive outdoor photos in the winter and low-light. After spending hours scouring yelp and many, many photographers' websites, Jake of JPP stood above the rest for us. We met him at his house/studio, looked at several of his albums and were sold. In the lead-up to the wedding, Jake was both very laid back AND communicative. Together we settled on the types of photos I wanted, the couple photos I must have and the schedule for the day (including backup group shot locations in the event of extremely frigid weather, crazy wind or pouring rain). A lot of photographers try and sell you on paying for a second photographer just to "ensure no moment is missed," but Jake shot by himself, seemed absolutely everywhere and captured every single part of our day beautifully. We were taking photos in 20* cold weather with wind and a massive bridal party, and he effortlessly navigated it all. The photos from everything from getting ready, to the first look and group shots, to the ceremony, reception and dancing were stunning and everything that we hoped for and more. I know, I know, every bride thinks that, but honestly there isn't a single moment that he missed or that I wished that he'd captured differently. We couldn't have been happier with picking Jake as our photographer. From the first meeting he has been so wonderful to work with. My husband and I got married last November and we hired Jake to do both our engagement and wedding photos. We couldn't have been happier with the work that he did. We felt that he was reasonably priced for the quality of work that he does (you can find cheaper photographers but not who have his level of expertise). He had several package options to chose from, including one that had all the stuff we wanted and not a bunch of extras like prints and books, etc. And the price included full ownership of all the images, not just a selection. Neither of us had ever done a professional photo session so we were a little nervous about the engagement photos, but Jake made it very easy and even fun. We had a few ideas but he helped us refine them and gave some suggestions. We had to reschedule several times because of weather and he was great about it. We got our photos back in a very reasonable amount of time. The photography on the wedding day was everything we hoped for: Jake was on time, traveled well with us from hotel to photo venue to wedding venue, got excellent pictures of the look of the day and managed to get a ton of great shots of the ceremony and reception without my husband or I even really noticing where he was. I just looked back through the pictures for the first time in a while and all of the memories, emotions and fun came flooding back! I cannot say enough WONDERFUL things about Jake. We hired Jake to be our wedding photographer and he also did our engagement photos. Before the wedding, I tried to meet with 3 vendors for each service and then decide. I met with Jake first and then knew I didn't need to meet with anyone else. Jake is absolutely phenomenal. His work is stunning, but also deeply personal. There are so many incredible moments I get to relive through his work, and a few I even saw for the first time while I was off talking to people and enjoying. We have beautifully rendered candids and natural looking posed shots and picking favorites was a huge challenge. We've received so many wonderful compliments on the photos. In lead up to the wedding it looked like we'd have extremely unusual December weather in Chicago: 60 degrees and raining. Luckily we got the 60 and avoided the rain, although a pretty dense fog blanketed the city all day. No worries. Quick on his feet we rerouted from the Museum campus for skyline shots to the beaches up further north. There may be no skyline, but instead there's this glowy mist completely obfuscating the city and area in those shots. It almost looks like we took photos in three separate cities on three different days, truly showcasing what a magical and unique city Chicago is. Jake was a pleasure to work with before and during the wedding, and I didn't even know he was there most of the time during the event itself. I'll be looking forward to having another excuse to hopefully work with him again. read more

Awesome, awesome, awesome. Jake's style is photojournalistic. His photos not only capture the moment, but the also the feeling of the moment. Just looking at his photos transports the viewer to the scene. I have never seen anything like it. Everyone who looks at our wedding photos says the same thing - they are the best wedding photos they have ever seen. Logistically Jake is tremendously professional.
