Soft Touch Review We…read morehired Soft Touch Moving in June 2025 to pack, move, and store our belongings in their "climate-controlled" facility for four months while our new home was being built. About 4 hours into the re-delivery of our belongings by their crew, we discovered that much of our furniture and personal property which had already brought into our new home appeared to be covered in mold. The contamination affected our brand-new home and required professional remediation. As a result, we were displaced and forced to live in a hotel for 50 nights while the issue was addressed. The owner, John Craft, acknowledged to us that our belongings had gotten wet and remained on their moving trucks for a period of time during the hot and humid month of June. Despite assurances from the company's insurance carrier, we have received very little communication or resolution. More than seven months later, we still do not have our belongings and have had to retain legal counsel to pursue claims against both Soft Touch Moving and the insurance company. This experience has been incredibly disruptive to our lives. Based on our experience, we would strongly caution others before trusting this company with their belongings.

We hired Soft Touch because of the in-person estimate process and the professionalism it signaled…read more We appreciated that the name didn't include words like "hunk," "junk," or "college"--which, to us, implied a higher standard of care, experience, and accountability. Ironically, what we experienced felt very much like the kind of "hunk/junk/college" move we were trying to avoid. Truly the experience of packing was the worst. The team was young, inexperienced, and untrained. They didn't label most of what they packed and what they did was mislabeled: a bread machine marked as a deep fryer; an air compressor labeled as a spray painter. Our fine art--an irreplaceable piece with sentimental and monetary value--was carried by the hanging string and placed on the truck unprotected. TVs and computers were loaded upside down. Sharp kitchen tools like a mandolin were packed alongside flip-flops. Castor oil, cooking oil, liquid hand soap and mouthwash were dumped into boxes/spilled b/c of the lack of care. Furniture and lamps were cracked. Beyond the poor packing, inconsistent training and communication the worst part was the owners response to our concerns which conveyed sense of defensiveness and a desire to justify the poor performance surrounding the project. Excuses and abdication.

By far one of the most unprofessional services I have ever used. I choose them because I was trying…read moreto support a small business of someone I know. Was originally told they would be there around 8am-9am. Didn't show up until 10:30am Was quoted 125 dollars for labor/man hours. Only 1 guy and a girl showed up and was asked multiple times when my boyfriend would show up to help. Out of everything that was supposed to be moved only 1/3 of the stuff was successfully moved (if you avoid the scratches and damaged items) After moving the washer they started a screaming match in front of my apartment complex calling each other idiots and cussing each other out. At one point I heard the guy screaming "this is stupid we should just leave" (didn't add all the cussing) which is what they did. The girl came back up and said she was going to drive around for a few minutes and then she would be back just needed to calm down. Which cool no problem, 20 minutes go by and still no one is back. I messaged them asking if she was okay which was then she was trying to calm him down and he was all pissed. They didn't come back left half of the stuff in the uhaul and the other stuff left in the apartment. Told me that I didn't inform them this was a "full move" and "we were going to help them" I have MULTIPLE messages showing it was all my heavy stuff left and never once did I say I was going to help them move. Why would I pay YOU to have to help move.

Where to begin? First, their communication is terrible because you'll talk to someone and the next…read morecall or text goes to someone else. I called and setup a time - I called back and the guy said I didn't have a move scheduled (got a text confirming I didn't have anything scheduled). Then people showed up at my house (I wasn't ready). The company blamed me even after I showed them the text and the call where the guy said I didn't have an appt. Move time comes - the guys are aloof and unhelpful. They didn't ask if I was okay leaving the doors open (they propped them up immediately). So then I had to find my cat. They used the front and back (while they were only two people) and messed up the door frame to the back - with nails sticking out that could've easily poked my kids (I'll come back to this). That's bad enough but professionals would have at least mentioned what they did (not try to avoid it). Professionals would say, "We screwed up - how can we help". I know this because I hired professionals after this company failed so miserably and they did something considerably minor and immediately were like, "We're sorry - that was our mistake." And that was it - taking simple accountability was all that was needed and I could not have cared less (although as professionals, they didn't screw up nearly as badly as College Movers). Back to College "Movers". They damaged furniture. They poorly packed and took very little of what I asked them to take and then they stopped before the time agreed upon and had the unmitigated gall to ask me if I would be tipping them. When the crew that came after these guys saw how they literally had thrown my things in a 10x20 storage unit and taken up a ton of space with not that much - they laughed (because these guys are laughably pathetic). Even sadder? I'm in no way a professional; the movers told me they had no way to understand how to take apart a bunk bed. I did it in the 20 minutes after they left (by myself). They are, simply, lazy. And that's fine - be lazy (but don't be movers). The worst part is that for each issue raised, their company took absolutely no responsibility. Texts indicating I had no appt? I must've confused their system (and ignore the fact that I could name who I talked to, when I called and for how long). Pictures showing the damage they did (but had not happened in the 4 years I previously lived in the home or from the movers I hired AFTER them because they were so bad) - must've been poor craftsmanship of the house, furniture, or magic. At no point was someone able to say, "You know, we could've done better." It has been (repeatedly), "Well, actually ..." If you want college movers in the vein of frat guys who are bad at their job, uninterested in professionalism, and adding to the litany of why moving sucks - these are completely your people. If you'd like a good company, go with "Moving You Forward" out of Terre Haute or "A Better Way" or literally any two people off the street.
