The staff here are lovely and the environment is light, warm, clean, and welcoming. I love their collection of books and gifts, especially the locally handmade gifts. My kid lives in St. John's, so one day during my recent visit, we walked down the main road in town, where all the shops and cafes are, to check out all the places she's been meaning to explore. And we came upon Two Rivers/Weird Sisters, a combined small, independent book store-slash-yarn and knit shop. We loved this store. The ladies who work here clearly not only know their stuff but they are passionate about their books and knitting. I overheard them talking books with customers, and it was so clear that they love reading and know what to recommend. It was also obvious that this book and knit store has a loyal customer base, as it seemed that all the folks who were there when we visited were regulars. The ladies who work here knew the customers - and their kids - by name. (This felt like the "Cheers" of book and knit shops lol!). They host book club meeting here and also "bitch and stitch" knitting groups. Heck, the name alone of the clubs makes me want to learn to knit! At the time of our visit, they were doing some sort of book promo where you get a bag of chips with certain book purchases. (This may be a YA promo, I'm not sure). But they had a lot of "Potato Chip Books" on display, and it was super cute and super clever. (There were some teen girls there with their moms at the time, and they were all really into this "potato chip" book thing). There's a section devoted to Portland gifts and local, gourmet fare. I got a locally made Bloody Mary mix that looks amazing, and the lady who works here told me the backstory, how she knows the family who makes this mix, and it was so interesting, hearing about the personal connection they have here to the various products they carry. I like this little shop. It's all new books, and while none of the sections are huge, the inventory is well selected and attractively merchandised. The store has a strong progressive bent: great LGBTQIA+ selections, a Wiccan section, and even the poetry leans to the left. Speaking of poetry, they had a great National Poetry Month display in April!! They have decent kids', mystery, and sci-fi/fantasy sections as well. Store's bright, clean, and well-organized. I was pleased. However, when my wife went in to order a book, she said she was pretty much taken for granted; they showed no interest in her or in the book she ordered. I still like the store, but this encounter was definitely a demerit. I'd noticed a bit of a reserve the two times I was in as well, but my experience wasn't as unpleasant as hers was. The shop shares space with the Weird Sisters yarn shop. Plenty of cool gifty stuff, if that's what you're looking for. All-in-all, a pretty nice shop. I'll be back. read more

I've been to this shop at least 3 times now and each time I'm greeted by a friendly voice and an incredible selection of books and yarn. All the yarn I've seen is from farms local to Oregon or Washington, so you know your money is staying in the community. Tons of gorgeous colors too! I've made two beanies from their selection already. read more

Disappointing experience trying to process a return for a merchandise that I assumed to be returnable. I was more than okay with being issued a store credit as I understand small businesses need the money. I just have no need for this purchase since we didn't end up doing the activity. I tried to return as expediently as possible, after purchasing the product on a Saturday, called the store on Sunday, came to the store on a Monday where it was closed, and then returned again on Tuesday. I checked on the following things: 1) the checkout register where it did not mention that returns for all other items are not accepted, simply says see online for full return policy. 2) the online return policy where it also does not mention that returns for any other merchandise except books and yarn is not acceptable 3) I called the store the day after I bought the merchandise to which the person on the phone told me that I would be issued store credit. When I returned on Tuesday, it took them 10 minutes of me being in there before they finally showed me that on the receipt that it says that all other purchases are not refundable. I didn't read the receipt since I had already done all three things above and obtained consent from the storeworker already. Further, it is not useful to read on a return receipt that something is not returnable since foreseeably the only time you see that merchandise isn't returnable is only after the purchase. All I was offered was an apology for giving me the incorrect information but not once did she offer to make an exception as I had done due diligence in trying to return this and within three days. I will not be shopping here again. read more

Beautiful new bookstore / art gallery in St Johns. They opened in July and feature local artists and crafts. I came for a special coffee cup by Lindsey-the-great, a fabulous local pottery artist in St. Johns. I could have bought so much more--oil sprays, linens, yarn--if I knew what to do with it. The owner was welcoming and rightly proud of her beautiful shop with handmade ukuleles, candles and embroidered hats. Great addition to one of my favorite Portland haunts. read more
