Though they were packed with other shoppers, the staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. We each purchased a few skeins of yarn, and my daughter picked up an adorable claw clip in the shape of a ball of yarn with knitting needles. There was a wide variety of yarn, from cost-conscious basics to mid-priced natural fiber staples, all the way to sumptuously decadent fiber yarns at a luxury price point. Their needle selection was robust, their notions and other celebratory yarn-goodies plentiful as well. There is literally something for everyone here! They also have a wall dedicated to cross-stitch/embroidery with super fun kits. I know I missed mentioning something since it was stuffed to the gills with people, and if I'm honest, I was a little overwhelmed, but we look forward to returning soon for a more leisurely amble.

First of all, the staff were some of the nicest people I have ever met. They went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed and were happy to answer any questions I had as they came up. They were also extremely friendly and seemed to want to get to know me, what projects I'm working on, and what I was looking for. Second, the selection and prices were unbeatable. Starlight Knitting Society had so many different yarns and crafting accessories to choose from at very reasonable prices. Despite wanting to buy everything in the store, I left with a Starlight Knitting Society tote bag (my new favorite bag to carry my knitting projects in) and a tension ring. I really wish I lived closer to Starlight Knitting Society. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Portland!

Cut to today: they are my favorite yarn shop as a local. It's also the farthest from where I live so I don't get to visit as often as I would prefer. The shop is inviting and well laid out. The folks working there are friendly and helpful, and it's smack in the Alberta Arts District which is one of my favorite neighborhoods. Close Knit has a fantastic variety of yarns from basics to luxury ensuring that no matter your price point, you will find something delightful. They're one of the rare places that carries Noro Kureyon which is one of my favorite yarns and they offer it at a fair price compared to other yarn shops I've been to in the area. They are my go-to yarn shop for objective purchases and subjective yarn wandering. :)

I've been slowly making my rounds to the many new yarn shops since we moved here last summer. I was excited to FINALLY get an opportunity to stop in during our mom-and-daughter Galentine's Day adventure. There was one person working there, and they were so sweet, friendly, and helpful. That alone would bring me back again and again. Secondly, the space is airy, well-lit, and delightfully organized, which is very conducive to knowing exactly where to get what you need and also lends itself to relaxed meandering when you don't have a specific need, BUT as all yarn-crafters know, the yarn will let you know you need them. I don't make the rules. There's a fabulous selection of premium, affordable basics, natural, and synthetic fibers. The knitting needles and crochet hooks are behind the counter, so you will have to be intentional here. In places where I don't necessarily need any tools but see one, I tend to buy it. (Please respect my privacy on how many size 6 16" circulars I have purchased.) So, in this regard, Fiber Rhythm is saving me (and my pocketbook) from myself! In addition, there are dyes, several kits, and a winder to self-wind your purchases. To be honest, there was much, much more, but I had parked in a spot where I had to move by 4:00 pm, and we got there at 3:49 pm. This was a literal "speed run" through a yarn store. I'm very new to knitting, and this was just what I needed. I got some important tips, and learned something called Tink! Previously I came in with my first ever project looking for some tips. Two ladies at the front desk took a lot of time to help me out. I also left with some nice little tools that really helped me out. Friendly staff, and it looks like they have a big selection for a small space. Definitely come by and check them out, and bring your project if you need some help. I've seen they have group and individual class options.

They were very helpful with finding me the right hooks and yarn that I was looking for. My favorite purchase from here is the foldable scissors. I like stopping by here when I'm around and I like that they have event going on here. On Sundays, they provide a space where everyone who crochets and/or knits can come and hangout. Something that I appreciate is how they have different sized yarn, a variety of colors, and other things such as markers and scissors.
