Charges $20 for fishing. Shalow river. Difficult access. Clean. Good as an rv park, not for fishing.

The last time we rafted Middle Fork American was on a cold, gloomy, drizzling day in October 2019 - so we had to give it another go in warmer weather. This time around was just as memorable. Two of us in the boat ended up falling out in the water at Tunnel Chute, which happened so fast that I barely knew what had happened - thankfully, there was a nice calmer stretch of water right after through the river tunnel, so we were easily able to get back into the raft. (Thank you to our guide, Troy, for hauling me back in, and for being an awesome guide in general!) Plus this was one of the photographer spots, so the action was all captured for us to laugh about later. Later, after our tasty sandwich picnic lunch, we had a few unexpected events happen, starting from the portage down Ruck-a-Chucky Falls. Shout-out to all three guides in our group - Troy, Shea, and AJ - for handling things so calmly and getting us all back where we were supposed to be! We had plenty of calm stretches floating down the river as well. The canyon is beautiful and quite peaceful. We saw a ton of dragonflies flying above our heads, masked ducks chilling on rocks and diving underwater, and wild grapes and blackberries growing alongside the river. We'll be back again for another trip with All-Outdoors! Maybe we'll try a 2-day or 3-day trip next time.

He's a great lead and a great guide... our boat was laughing the whole time with his fun stories and his dead pan delivery! His confidence on the river and his calm demeanor made me feel so comfortable the whole time (and I was the most nervous of all of us). Because we all left our phones in our cars, Garrett was kind enough to take a group photo and share it with me. Garrett also shared with us the excitement of the middle fork trip and it's definitely something we'll be back to do! Additionally, Aaron was awesome at welcoming us, and did a great job getting us back to camp... he even played along with some of Garrett's fun anecdotes! Clearly, your staff prioritizes your customers and their experience! Thanks for the most epic birthday adventure ever!

Our guide, Kylen (?) was a MASTER oarsman (best I've ever seen...), giving us clear instructions when we came upon some unusually challenging rapids. In some sticky situations that other boats got into, he was right ON IT to help them without hesitation, often seeing a problem before anyone else had. I felt completely safe in his care. He also "read the group" really well, connecting easily with everyone. Despite his amazing professional skill and emotional intelligence, he was very low-key and humble... to me, that's a sign of a lifelong learner. This was our 4th trip with OARS. There's so much care into the preparation, the selection and training of the guides and the well-oiled execution on these trips. We're already planning our next!

From incredibly attentive and knowledgeable guides to luxurious camping accommodations, they take care of you. All you have to do is show up and paddle. Maybe you don't even have to paddle if you're sitting in the gear boat. The American River trips are an easy day trip from Sacramento or the Bay Area. If you're looking for a little more adventure, a multi-day guided whitewater trip is so fun, with lots of downtime to swim, look at the stars, play games, and eat yummy food. There's no freeze dried camp meals here. Everything is boated in and prepped on the beach for you. So good. All around, so good.

Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Josh in the parking lot, whose positive energy set the tone for the day. I highly recommend arriving on an empty stomach, as they provide a generous meal before the adventure begins. We enjoyed delicious hamburgers with a variety of toppings, along with fruit, chips, and cookies. I skipped the cookies but even after eating the hamburger I didn't feel sluggish so it was perfect. After our meal, we got our safety gear and went over rules, tips, safety info etc. Zach was our lead and he was very knowledgeable on all 150 questions our team asked him lol. We took off and within 5 min we were in the water by choice, and the water felt amazing. At the end of our river adventure, a jet ski transported us to end location where we removed our gear and boarded a bus, they gave us a snack prior to loading the bus. Zach drove us back efficiently while Josh kept us entertained. The entire staff was phenomenal and it's clear why this place receives such high praise. I look forward to returning with my kids , as my birthday and anniversary celebration was nothing short of amazing.
