Strawberry and Boston cream pie - favorite was the cream pie!!!
Thuy Dan T.

I came here to pick up some sweets and some Vietnamese pastries and I'm so glad I did! The pâtéso (a traditional Vietnamese savory pastry that has a meat filling) was really flaky and crispy on the outside! The filling was plentiful and to my surprise with ground pork, but was still tasty. For sweets, I picked up some chocolate chip croissants, strawberry cupcake, Boston cream pie cupcake, and a cherry and apple turnover. Both cupcakes had fillings in them - very delicious and not overly sweet! Favorite was the Boston cream pie. The turnovers were also were flaky and delicious. This place definitely knows how to cook their pastries! The place is a little hard to find but you don't want to pass it up! Also the owners are so friendly and welcoming :)!

Snare Drum Custom Made Birthday Cake

I wanted to gift my son, who lives in Madison, WI, a birthday cake. After researching local bakeries (I live in Atlanta.), I chose Two Sisters Bakery and Cafe. The reviews were excellent for Customer Service and gorgeous, custom-made delicious cakes. The reviews are accurate. My son is a drummer, and they created a Snare Drum. It was beautiful and, my son reports, "delicious, not too sweet, perfect." I worked with Tim, and he was great. Helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this bakery. I look forward to ordering my daughter-in-law's cake!

Yummy choices, but the Carrot Cake Cup reigned SUPREME

I've been meaning to try this bakery for months. It's on Gammon Road, but you access it on the Woodmans side of the building. One of the two sisters was behind the counter and her husband, the baker, took the time to introduce me to all the various bakery offerings. They had a larger selection of goodies than I was expecting! Cupcakes, cookies, tarts, bars, etc. My favorite purchase was a Carrot Cake and Cream Cheese Frosting sort of parfait. The cake pieces were moist and delicious, and the generous frosting layers not-too- sweet. Not to mention, the portion was enormous. This bakery is for you if you are looking for local, family-owned, scratch-made with care sweets.

Bakery and cafe right by woodman's! The parking is ample and the location is just right for a quick break between shopping. Apart from the customer cake orders, they have vietnamese savory snacks, coffee and beautiful cupcakes. This place has a centrally located open kitchen, so you can be sure there are no secrets when the owners say they make everything from scratch. Try the apple pudding which is moist, not to sweet as my liking and flavorful. They also have fresh bread and croissants iin interesting flavors

Both, they claimed were fantastic! I just wish we could've had a taste! They looked beautiful and I will definitely be ordering again. Thanks for your help Tim!

Unfortunately, it is out of business. (Yelp says my message is too short, I need to keep talking...)

Their selection is better than any big box store (including the nearby Joann) and they have the boxes/packing for all your needs. I started my baking company a year ago and Vanilla Bean has been everything I wanted and needed. They keep a stock for all the upcoming holidays and have a wall of cookie cutters of everything you could possibly imagine. Then they have cake and cupcake toppers and plastic characters for parties and milestones also ok that wall. They have a huge selection of flavors and food coloring -- both are highest quality. Their gel colors have been my saving grace! Also, all of their tools, accessories, little things you can use are available. It makes this an awesome place to explore for any baking enthusiast. When I was in the State fair, Vanilla Bean had the cake dummies (styrofoam) I needed and at cheaper prices than Joann or online. They also have all the boxes and cake rounds for the bases that you could need. They also have pans for shaped cakes and characters. It's one of my favorite places in Madison -- go visit!

We also tried MOFONGO which was new for me and very tasty/unique. Top notch flavor and portion sizes for all things but I think my favorite was the arepa. Really just so impressed. Will be going back to try more things. I feel I just scratched the surface with this place If you're unfamiliar about what the offerings might be like I suggest just going in and looking at some of the pictures on the menu and asking questions to help you decide. Order at the counter and choose from a wide array from options-breakfast, snacks, arepas, cachapas, empanadas, etc. It seriously is extensive. The arepa and cachapa were absolutely humongous and easily could have been shared by two people. Authentic. Homemade. Simple yet tasty. It's obvious they take pride in what they do and it shows in the food they put out. I will be back-just wish it was closer!

It looked pretty popular with a decent number of people dining in and a bunch of others picking up orders. The girl at the counter was super friendly and helpful because I had no idea how to order lol. She made a few recommendations and even helped adjust my random items into a combo for us. Prices are fair, ordered 3 meats and 2 sides for like ~$50. We got ribs, brisket, and pulled pork along with cornbread and mac and cheese, and it came with a fountain drink. Food came out pretty quickly, we didn't have to wait long. One thing I thought was fun was the bell by the door that you can ring if you had a good experience. We rang it on the way out and got a bunch of cheers from inside haha. The ribs were big, meaty, and cooked well. The brisket wasn't really my favorite, and the pulled pork was a little hit or miss since some bites were way saltier than others. We tried both the mild and spicy bbq sauces, and the spicy wasn't too spicy. Overall, a perfectly solid casual bbq spot.

Honestly, a solid BBQ option on the west side of Madison. I can tell I don't get out much anymore…read morewith how shocked I am by lunch prices. Not just here, but everywhere, really. I think my pulled pork sandwich, two sides (cole slaw and fries) and a drink pushed $17. That's more than I prefer to spend on lunch, but I was going out with some work friends and felt like treating myself. And it was, indeed, a treat! The pulled pork was very good - not overly fatty or anything. Good flavor. I tried the "original" and "sweet city" sauces - both were very good and not overpowering. The fries were good - a little greasy (but "good greasy" if there is such a thing). The creamy cole slaw confused me. It was a bit dry. I know, right? How is creamy cole slaw dry? I'm not sure if it's always like this, or maybe it was off the top of the batch and the "creamy" and dripped to lower parts. Don't get me wrong - it tasted good. We'll see how it is next time I'm there! Overall, a good BBQ stop. The pulled pork sandwich will be a standard order there, but I'm sure I'll venture out to some other dishes to see what they have to offer!
