I've definitely experienced better camping and float trips in the Noel MO area. I contacted Two Sons in early February through their website because this campground seemed the most pet-friendly in the area. Six weeks later, they finally replied. I should have taken a hint at the long delay for the reply. I really should have.
When I called to make the reservation, I asked if sites included picnic tables and fire rings because I saw none in the pictures on website. Al told me that because our party of four was renting their boats, we would have a picnic table and fire ring on our site (so we would know whether to bring our own). He did warn me that the weekend would be rowdy and that other campers who arrived earlier might take the table and fire ring for their own sites, so we should arrive as early as possible. So, we arrived by 5:00 p.m. on Friday of that weekend. We did NOT get there early enough.
When we found a place to pitch our two tents, there was no unclaimed table or fire ring to be found. When we asked the staff about it, they were polite but unapologetic when they told us where to find a general store so we could buy our own.
When we checked in, the staff were friendly and greeted us professionally. The grounds were clean, and the process flowed amazingly well. They handled two couples separately paying for one reservation with no problem. The bathrooms were clean, and port-o-potties were spread around the grounds so you did not have to walk all the way to the wash building to answer that call from Mother Nature. Staff drove through the grounds frequently, and the company maintaining the port-o-potties came at least once each day.
I would note some discrepancies between what they say on their website and what we experienced. The website specifically says that fireworks are not allowed, but fireworks were popping all night Friday, Saturday, and Sunday--while staff drove around in marked trucks presumably patrolling the grounds. The site also welcomes pets as long as they are on a leash, but Rottweilers and Pit Bulls walked around with no person accompanying them--while staff drove around in marked trucks presumably patrolling the grounds. We had to keep our dogs in our tent most of the trip to protect them from these bigger, aggressive dogs (not the breeds in general but rather these specific dogs). The website also says that music should be contained to one's own campsite, but we were bombarded with pop, rap, and country music coming from all sides--while staff drove around in marked trucks presumably patrolling the grounds. At times, like 12 midnight, we had to shout to hear each other--and we were camping on the quiet side of the grounds! But then, Al did warn me that their campers that weekend would be rowdy.
I really should have taken the slow response to my initial email as a sign of the lack of responsiveness of the staff to the needs of their guests. I really should have. We definitely have had much better experiences at other campgrounds on the Elk River in Noel. read more
