The top was lifting and the action was in desperate need of a setup (to the point where they had to shim both the neck and saddle a bit). I can't say the repair was blazing fast or i'd be misleading (around 3 weeks turn around), but frankly I would rather the repair be done well than fast. You cannot even see the seam where the top was lifting, the action is phenomenal, and the interactions with the employees were always jovial and pleasant. You can tell the techs working there absolutely love what they do, and that's always refreshing to see in artisanal jobs like luthier work.

He gave me all the time I needed to explain basic accordionship and construction, select an appropriate instrument, and set a fair price and terms for my specific needs. After a couple days I realized something wasn't right with the bass button order, and he surmised over the phone that the bass block was in backwards. I brought it in and he took out his screwdriver and fixed it then and there in the lobby. Terrifically kind and helpful, this man can do anything (except perhaps stop talking)! Pay him a visit when you have some time, try out some unique accordions, and ask him about his steam car.

I would have driven all the way to you just to turn around and leave because of your fee that wasn't disclosed upfront. Most local studios and private teachers I have found to offer an initial lesson for free to see if it is a good fit. If that's is not the case with you it would be a much better business practice to be a little more upfront in the future. It feels incredibly dishonest.
