Great choice for a vet near Durham and Chapel Hill. When we lived in Chapel Hill we took our dogs here for neutering, vaccinations, and check-ups. We likely went here for about 2+ years. Prices were reasonable and it was quick and easy to make appointments. The location is easy to find and ample parking is available. The employees are helpful and compassionate. Our appointments occurred on time and they were clear regarding recommendations and pricing. Tyson does accept the SNAP-NC vouchers. If you are unfamiliar with this program I suggest checking it out. They provide assistance in covering the cost of neuter/spay and rabies vaccines. If we hadn't moved away we would likely still be going to Tyson. We recommend this vet to others! read more

We were previously with another vet, but they wanted to charge $1100 for just a dental cleaning (not including any teeth extractions that may be needed), whereas Tyson starts at $350 for cleanings. Our dog needed two extractions and the price was very reasonable for those too. We will be switching to Tyson for our vet needs. read more

Two stars because of the reasonable prices and great vet tech staff. But the vets themselves leave us wondering. We had a dog with an underlying medical condition, which was known to the vets because they treated her for it. At the vet's recommendation, we let them clean her teeth. She was never the same after that and we lost her a month later. Over 4 different vets saw her during her 2 ER visits and specialists. Their consensus was that she never should have been anesthetized without increasing her medications beforehand. Needless to say, our other dog won't be going back nor will we be recommending them. read more

We would not recommend Tyson Animal Hospital. We were satisfied with Tyson, until they lost our cat, Moo Moo, in July 2022. After Moo Moo escaped from Tyson, several of their employees panicked and proceeded to chase him across the railroad tracks behind the property and into the woods which, if you have ever been around cats, you likely know is the worst course of action and certainly not what we would expect of professionals. We do not believe that Tyson has appropriate protocols in place to prevent future similar accidents, despite us urging them to implement them. We went to great lengths and expense to try to find Moo Moo; if you live in the area you probably saw some of our posters and social media ads. Tyson has not shown remorse or sympathy for the incident. Instead, when we asked Tyson to help us with our expenses in trying to find Moo Moo, they dismissed us and laughed at us in court, calling Moo Moo "feral", a "$40 Craigslist cat", and ridiculing our efforts to find him. In fact, Moo Moo was a beloved member of our family and an extremely social cat who would not have continued to run if Tyson acted reasonably in order to retrieve him after he escaped the building due to Tyson's fault. read more

We love Dr. Dishman. And as I write this review, Ovie is getting neutered. If you're thinking about this office, you will not be disappointed. They staff are very professional, they love your dog (or any other animal i'm sure) like it was their own. They are thorough with their work and great with following up. When Ovie was a puppy, he was having trouble with the diarears and food and all kinds of stuff. They called a few times to follow up to see if things improved and even offered some suggestions to help (pumpkin apparently is good for that kind of issue) and kept all of the talking notes on file. The prices are VERY reasonable, especially for the great service. We love this place, Ovie loves this place, you will love it. read more

The most wonderful staff worked me in for my four-year-old cat, Baby. Something was wrong with her Eye. Dr. Tyson wasted no time getting her to the back to be examined. She put anabiotic eyedrops and gave us more to come home with. So far so good. We love this place. So blessed that we found it. They look after your pets first. It's not about money. Simply the best. We've been in the area now for almost 2 years and we have been taking our rowdy golden retriever to Dr. Dishman for a little over a year now. She has been fantastic and her staff is top notch. They know Ovie by name now and are excited to see him every time we drop him off. We love that we can also leave Ovie with them to board if we have travel plans without Pet-friendly hotels (Hate non pet-friendly hotels btw). He receives a lot of attention and is always happy when we return. Another exiting aspect of Tyson's location is that in November there will be a indoor pet pool opening up across the street called Lap it Up www.Lapitup.biz so I'm really excited for that as well! read more

We went to Dr. Tyson with our very old dog and she was fantastic. She explained everything multiple times to my boyfriend who wanted to be sure he understood the nature of all the medication our dog was receiving. When his time came, she and the staff were very compassionate about our withes while putting him to sleep and not adding to the emotional distress of losing our dearest friend of the last 16 years. When it comes time to add a new four legged member to the family again, this is where we will be taking him. read more

I moved here from Coloardo and needed to find a vet for my wheaton terrier. After reading the reviews on yelp I decided to try out Tyson and I'm so happy that I did! The office and staff is friendly and its nice to see passion in the work place. We adopted two of my brother's cats and one had a weird psychological reaction that caused her to break out in blisters/scabs all over her head. Very nice clinic and staff! Woke up to a swollen paw and called when the clinic opened (open an hour earlier than most). got an appt for early in the morning. Vet came and examined her, very nicely, and explained what was happening and answered my many questions. We discussed treatment and costs, which weren't too bad. Met the second vet outside who answered some more of my paranoid dog parent questions. Cost was ~$50 for the visit and $45 for treatment of a mild infection. They'll be my dog's go to vet from now on. read more

Dr. Dishman and the rest of the office are awesome. My dog gets so scared at the vet, that just getting her back to the room is a challenge. They are so patient with us. Dr. Dishman will sit on the floor with us so I don't have to put her up on the table. My dog was a rescue and had a few health issues, like heartworms and whipworms. This has made me appreciate having a great vet even more. They will talk to me about all of the options, my concerns and answer my list of 100 questions without making me feel silly. Apart from this facility being completely run down, I would not trust this vets medical opinion nor would I trust her integrity. I had a terrible experience with Dr. Tyson and when I questioned her about the treatment she provided my cat she got extremely defensive and completely made up a story about my cat being unhealthy, aggressive, and difficult. All completely false statements. I have decided to take my pets elsewhere, hoping no one has to put down their beloved pet unexpectedly and then be met with a fabricated story line by this vet. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this office. I brought my sweet 3 lb chihuahua in for a spay consultation and a check on a growth I noticed. It was close to closing and the staff stayed later to explain options and medications in detail and with care. I live in Carrboro, but I drive to Durham to Tyson Animal Hospital. They were very helpful in telling me how I could get a coupon to defray the expense of spaying my dog. Recently, with the recommendations to stay at home, I was hesitant to take my dog in for her booster shot. I called and they assured me someone would come out & get my dog, give her the shot & return her to me. And that is what they did. Like a drive thru for your pet. I even remembered to pick up a 6 month supply of heart worm medication while I was there. My dog has always gotten the best of care here, but this week I learned they give great care to the human customers as well. read more

I am always pleased with the staff, service and pricing of Tyson. However, when it was time to say goodbye to my fur-child of almost 15 years, they went above and beyond! The doc and tech CAME TO MY HOUSE to administer the shot so that my pooch would pass without the stress of unfamiliar surroundings. They were also very sensitive to my extreme emotions of that day and situated me so that I would not witness them as they carried her out and see her in her final state. That is compassion and sensitivity on a whole 'nuther level that places like Banfield and other big-box vets would never be capable of. Let me say first, my dogs are not a patient of Tyson's, but I write this review based on a scary Saturday with a friend's Dalmation. 32, the dog, had an emergency when they were closed, and his owner was working. We were called and asked to go to the hospital, because they were talking euthanasia, and no one wanted 32 to be alone. We got there, and knocked when the door was locked, and were immediately let in to see him. Long story short, hecwas doing just fine, and the staff was so kind and compasionate. If I ever have a need to switch vets, it's my first choice to go! read more

My dog had to have emergency surgery and she gave me the best options and kept me informed while he was healing. In addition she came in while the office was close to check in on him and update me. Took our 2 dogs to Tyson Animal Hospital to be spayed. Intake and surgery went well and the dogs stayed overnight which was fine too. The negative experience happened upon checking out! The receptionist (claims to be the office manager) who checked us out was so incredibly rude, slow, and disorganized. Initially I just let it go and assumed she just had a poor attitude but after 5 minutes of constant eye rolling, talking under her breath, and outright nastiness I confronted her about speaking to me in this manner. She explained someone 'wasn't doing their job', in turn making her job more difficult. I explained I wasn't employed there and didn't need or deserve the attitude. Finally got our dogs (after 20 minutes of negativity and attitude) and got out of there! Would absolutely NEVER go back to this Vet and deal with that kind of treatment again. I wish I could say more positive things about the experience but being treated so poorly causes me concern in how my animals may have been handled. If this type of negativity is acceptable when dealing with patients face to face, I'm scared to think of what's acceptable behind closed doors. read more

Absolutely horrendous experience. My dog of 15 years has had awful breath that caused us alarm and led to us to periodic visits for approximately 3 years only to leave with the same excuse ' there is nothing we can do because of her age '. Once we grew sick and tired of being sick and tired we took our dog to another vet who performed surgery and has cured our dog of the bad breath and the kidney problem that resulted from the undiscovered (by Tyson Animal Hospital) breath issue. After spending hundreds of dollars in only consultations at Tyson Animal Hospital we found that they are not genuinely interested in the health of our dog. The current veterinarian has told us that our Pomeranian's jaw would have rotted off with the continued neglect of Tyson Animal Hospital. Such a despicable outcome with a vet with which we had thought we had a good relationship with. read more

While vacationing in the Durham, NC area this fall, my 13 year old vizsla dog Pilot, who was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago, suddenly and unexpectedly took a turn for the worse. I knew I could not prolong his suffering so Dr. Donna compassionately explained the process of euthanasia and with great sensitivity and care helped my soul-mate dog cross over to the Rainbow Bridge. This was the first time I have had an animal put to sleep and I was truly grateful to have it be such a peaceful and gracious event. The kindness shown to Pilot and me by Dr. Donna, and her entire staff, was truly appreciated, especially considering this was our first experience with Tyson Animal Hospital, who came through the recommendation of a friend in the area. I recently brought my sweet Aussie to Tyson Animal Hospital to be spayed and I cannot say enough about the compassionate care they provided. I was looking for a reasonably priced vet who would still provide the care and expertise that I wanted for my pet. She received that and more. Faith, the receptionist, was so friendly and knowledgeable, I knew immediately this was where I needed to take my little girl. And Lynn, the vet tech who met me at the car to take Bindi in, was such a joy to talk with and assured me she would personally see that Bindi had got extra pats and the goodies I sent with her. When I picked Bindi up the next morning she looked great and it was easy to see she had made new friends. Lynn explained to me what to expect in the coming days and assured me they were just a phone call away if we needed anything. And the bill was exactly what I was quoted - no surprised charges or fees!
