This has been my worst experience with U-Haul. I booked my unit online the morning of 08/01. I made 2 trips to the unit during store hours, and both times I had to connect with the desk agents to gain access to the unit. My code was changed multiple times, and I was not informed of the new codes. I was given multiple access cards, and at this point I am not even sure if the card currently in my possession is the card that should allow access to the unit. The evening of 08/01, I arrived to drop off a final load for storage at about 9:00pm. I attempted to call the general manager, Jimmy Coscette, no less than 20 times using the number listed on the door (845-741-9077) between 9:15 and 10:30, and I texted the number four times between 9:14 and 10:00pm. We were on the phone with U-Haul customer support for at least 45 minutes, and while they were able to assist with providing us codes we still could not gain access. The U-Haul agent also attempted to contact Jimmy, and they were unable to reach him. I contacted Maximum, they were able to provide my code for access, but I was still unable to gain entry with the code they provided. Maximum also tried calling Jimmy as well as the district office without success. I was on a time constraint and had to begin my trip that evening to arrive at my destination because we were supposed to attend a funeral for one of my family members, so I had to throw hundreds of dollars in worth of my own possessions away instead of storing them in the unit. I contacted the district office the evening of 08/01 and let them know how upsetting this has been and that we needed someone to reach out, and we have yet to receive a response. This has been a horrible experience and I would never recommend storing with U-Haul to anyone I know based on the poor level of customer service and lack of ability to gain assistance when it was needed. read more

WORST SERVICE EVER. Rented a 26 foot truck for a move to Vermont and when we got to the Uhaul, they just REFUSED our reservation and cancelled it. The truck was sitting right there. I wish I could give a rating of zero stars!!! I scheduled a Ubox three weeks prior to my day of moving. The last week of August I called every day so I would be able to square things away. Got confirmation via email and text on Friday 9/2 for my Ubox to be delivered to me to load up at 10:02 am. It is now Saturday at 1:32 and I just called them and they told me that nothing was going to happen today. Not only was nothing going to happen, but the lack of empathy that I received when I explained I was unable to stay at my apartment complex is also what did it for me. When renting any vehicle you will be charged mileage for, I strongly recommend comparing the mileage on your receipt to the actual mileage in the vehicle BEFORE you leave the parking lot. I rented a pickup truck and didn't look at the receipt (starting) mileage but DID look at the truck's actual mileage when I left the parking lot. It said 551 miles. I drove 201 miles at .69 per mile which should have come out to $95.69. However, when I returned the truck, I saw that it had a starting mileage of 521 on the receipt!!!! So I had to pay for the extra 30 miles that I didn't use!! $20.17 may not seem like a lot - but it's the principle of the thing. I knew it would be fruitless to argue the point with them since they're going to believe their employee - not the customer. I should have looked at the mileage on the receipt they gave me PRIOR to leaving, but didn't, so I had to suck up the extra mileage. Read your receipt BEFORE you leave!!! read more

The u haul in middletown on route 211 east use to be a nice. I have used the facility many times over the years and rent storage there currently. The storage area is very dirty on the outside. Garbage all over, ghetto looking. I would be aware that parking by the storage facility is just as messy. U haul has moved in to the storage parking lot with all of their equipment. Trailers, storage pods, they have left little to no room for customers to park our vehicles let alone a moving truck . I would warn that if you have to call them for any issue or question you will be in a timeless abyss where humans are void of reach. A trip to mars would be more obtainable. Would another company move into the area, build indoor storage climate control and rival this company? I want a company that answers the phone with a live species within 5 minutes and for the love of humanity get a garbage can take pride in your company, also get your own separate lot for all your equipment unless you want to pay 40 percent of our storage unit bill read more

Went there to reserve a car haul. Was first told it was not optional to have it for the day it had to be back by 6pm even if I picked it up at 7am. Came back the next morning at 6:55 to get it was told to move my truck across the street even though they needed to hook the doll up to my car. They told me they didn't open until 7am and to wait inside, I waited until 7:05 before I went out and asked who was working inside and both of the two guys just looked at me before one walked in as if they didn't know I was there. Nearly five more minutes later of him staring at the computer and asking me for my license and taking pictures of it with his phone he proceeded to tell me that apparently the system was down and they couldn't sell anything not even the tape and boxes I had already put on the desk. Absolute worst experience I've ever had at a uhaul and I do business with them pretty much daily for my moving company. I'm giving this place a zero rating. I stopped into U-Haul in Middletown to ask about renting a box truck for the weekend. There were two people working with no other customers. I told them that I hadn't rented from them in a very long time and asked what I needed to do. They said that all I needed was to show up Saturday morning and pick up the truck. I asked about insurance, gas, and mileage, but I never thought about asking if I needed to reserve the vehicle. Before I left, I asked them if there was anything else that I needed and I was told "no". So I left and came back on Saturday morning to find out that there were no trucks available. I told them that I had stopped in early in the week, but nobody said anything about reserving the truck. OK, so somebody made a mistake. Even I should have known about reserving the vehicle. A simple sorry and possibly a discount for my next rental would have been fine, but these people argued with me. They told me that nobody working there would have sent me away without telling me that I needed a reservation, basically, telling me that I was a liar. They were very smug and arrogant. You know when somebody tells you to "have a nice day" with an attitude because what they are really saying is "go f yourself." Yes, that's the attitude they gave me. People make mistakes. I make mistakes. But own up to it. Don't just turn your customers away like you couldn't care any less about them. You made me feel like the cockroach you've been trying to kill all morning. And I didn't do anything wrong. They did. There is one thing I did do wrong. I didn't get a name. Always get a name. It's a shame, but you always have to assume you are going to be mistreated. Especially at U-Haul in Middletown. Get the name of the person you are dealing with. read more
