Should've listened to the reviews. I got charged $273.08 when it was supposed to be much much less. They charged me a $117 fee for "fuel charge 18 Gals" (aka not filling the gas tank back to full) there's also a $30 fee for a "fuel service fee". I 100% filled the tank back up at the ARCO a block away with a $20 bill. I drove about 54 miles total off a full tank. They said that I returned it at 1/6th of a tank. Wow. The van had an average gas milage of 18mpg, the total gas tank held 25 gallons. Do the math. Driving 54 miles would leave it at a bit over 3/4 of a tank full. 22 gallons out of 25 gallons. (I used 3 gals of gas). IF I WERE TO BRING IT BACK WITHOUT REFUELING. But I did. So. The 1/6th doesn't even make sense if I didn't refuel it. Also just looking at the receipt again. It literally says the odometer reading when I picked it up and when I dropped it off. The difference? 52 miles. Wow. Yall. What? I'm currently waiting the 72 hours for this UHaul's response about the matter. Will update if anything gets worked out. Would love to get my money back. If you do decide to go here. Take photos of absolutely everything. Get names too I guess. read more

Buyer beware! We returned the van to another UHaul location in the city and were charged $216. There was no mention of the penalty amount in the contract (which is tons of fine print and I did not see it has to be returned to same location, my bad) and this was not disclosed when I rented it. Never have I ever in my life have I been charged this much money to rent a U-Haul..When I returned it I was charged for a late fee. He asked if it was gonna be by the end of day and I thought it would be. I got it back as soon as Physically possible and drop the key off at night just like I normally do at the West Seattle U-Haul and they never charged me a $20 late drop off fee. The other thing was that the gas was a little bit low because I was so exhausted from the day I had I really didn't know where to pull in safely to get gas in this area so to top it off they charge me another $80 for less than a quarter tank of gas and to top that off they charged me a cleaning fee when there is nothing left in the truck we literally cleaned out everything (it was FILTHY when I picked up) so I have no idea what the cleaning fee is for I understand charging me for mileage overage and for the gas charge but they charged above and beyond the gas charge which was also not clear to me, nor explained to me. This place is not like other U-Haul's. They are clearly just charging every single fee they can and will all and all after one whole day of moving from 10 AM to 7:30 PM cost me over $400 so I could've literally hired movers for that. Absolutely do not recommend this place nor will I go back and I usually do a lot of uhaul trips. read more

I was moving from Seattle to Tampa and ran into a bit of a crisis. Thank God for Lynell, the GM, who literally saved my sanity. Scheduled pick-up 4:00pm on Sunday 8/4. Doors locked and nobody to be found on the property. Someone showed up around 4:45 and told us they don't help customers one hour before closing (5:00pm). That we would have to use their mobile app. After about 20 minutes her assisting us and that not working she called her GM to help figure it out. The GM arrived. Told her my frustration and she responded "I Don't Care" multiple times with her head moving right to left with each word. Never apologize for our inconvenience just had a horrible attitude. And again "She did NOT care". Absolutely the worst example for her employees on how to help customers. She should be fired. I will tell everyone I know about this experience until I finally get over her horrible attitude towards me. read more

Beware of scam! They will rent you a truck with less than ¼ tank of gasoline and then try to charge you $50 if you return it with less than ¼ tank. Clearly trying to get you to refill their trucks for free and get some free gasoline out of it. In my case, I drove less than 10 miles for a quick pick-up from Lowe's. When I tried to return the truck an hour after pickup with barely less than ¼ tank, they tried to charge me double my original reservation cost ($95 instead of $44) for returning the car with less than ¼ tank, even though it started out that way when I picked it up! As icing on the cake, the store manager was a complete jerk. He threatened to throw me out of the store when I came to pick up the keys for "trying to get behind the desk" even though all I did was walk up to the side of the counter AS DIRECTED TO BY THE U-HAUL APP. When I showed the manager that I was just following instructions, his response was, "the app doesn't manage the store, I do, and I'll throw you out". Lovely. read more

Horrible experience. I reserved my truck via the website. I even received a phone call confirming. On moving day, I arrived at the scheduled time. I waited 45 minutes in line before I was told that they did not have the truck I reserved. I ended up with a smaller truck and did not receive one of the dollys I reserved because the attendant in the lot was smoking a cigarette while he was talking to me. My move ended up being almost $300 more because I had to do a second trip....because of their error! Upon returning the truck, I accidentally locked the keys in the truck. They had the gall to charge me an additional $100. The manager (Cedric) was completely unconcerned. He didn't even apologize. read more

THIEVES THIEVES THIEVES THIEVES THIEVES I rented my Uhaul from this location, purchased full insurance, and the morning I was going to leave, my Uhaul was stolen with everything I owned (which I'm starting to believe, this was an inside job) I fought for months with them for a refund on my truck rental, and after my truck was found, I was told I still had some belongings inside, which were thrown away, because of negligence of the Uhaul employees to itemize what was found. The GM at the time denied anything was inside, but the police recovery report told different. The insurance company uhaul uses basically said I'm S.O.L, because even though ther were given an itemized list of everything in the truck in the police report, plus the recover report, they had no record of anything that was left inside. If these trucks are repeatedly stolen, and uhaul won't do anything further for them to be safer against theft, maybe a tracking system, or a chip to start the truck so they're not hot wired, why even offer this insurance?? And why try to take peoples money, when they already have lost all their belongings?? read more

Avoid this uhaul location. The people are malcontents that will void your reservation if they are unhappy. We had a confirmed reservation and arrived on time. The place is a mess with no clear place to park, the people yelled at us not to park at a spot, then when we parked at another place they got angry that it was not the right place and voided our reservation. TL;DR: There are other U-Haul locations - use them. A few standard customer service complaints... Then the specific one about this location not honoring promises it advertises in the store. Customer service basics: Overworked employees that both seem to be really busy and doing nothing at once... They're unfriendly, but always have time to yell at you to move your car from whatever spot you choose to take. The specifics: I purchased a large quantity of boxes based on with the express promise of U-Haul's "Worry Free Buy Back Guarantee" that they'll take returns of unused boxes. Great! That's a reason to buy from U-Haul vs. Lowe's across the street. The guarantee was not honored. I know there's a pandemic on, and I respect that changes things so I checked the website and asked in person if the guarantee was good. Signs all over the store advertise this guarantee and the in store associate agreed. Answer: "Yes. It's 100% worry free!" Reality when trying to collect: "Go away!" When I went to return my order on Sunday, 8/23 after getting yelled at to move my car and wait a while was told that despite the earlier promise and every single sign in the store still promoting the 100% buy back this would not be honored due to the pandemic. The manager simply said he would take no returns due to the virus being on the cardboard and would issue no refunds. He then said I could donate the boxes instead. This made me quite annoyed that they he could somehow take my boxes for free despite the pandemic and not honor the guarantee; but because of the pandemic he would not be able to issue a refund for the same unused boxes I could "donate". If there are changes to policy like this I expect that all materials on the website and in-store would be updated. While I understand it's a pandemic, it's still no excuse just to weasel out of things. In summary: go somewhere else. read more

This is tough to give a negative review but this place worries more about where customers may park more than anything else. Here's a tip, add a few more customer parking spots rather than yell at me for looking for a place to park. Your parking lot is large enough, it could absolutely accommodate a few other customers. So today, rather than deal with the rude woman refilling propane and yelling at me where to not park, I drove down to the Lowe's to get two new propane tanks and guess I'll support a large chain versus a small business. I do want to support my local businesses, but not at the risk of being treated poorly. Please improve. read more

I've never had a uhaul experience that was remarkable one way or another, but this was decidedly great. When i came in on sunday there was a huge line, one person (i think the manager) on duty who was fielding a phone call And helping two customers simultaineously. He made it go by in a breeze and was really thorough, made sure my equipment worked and managed to seem relaxed and petsonable doing so many things at once. There were some issues. My pick up was scheduled for a certain location. No one notified me that my reservation was moved to the Rainer Valley location so I went to West Coast Storage where I had reserved the cargo van to be informed that they didn't have the vehicle available for me. I get to the Rainer location where my reservation was moved to, I had requested the furniture pads, dolly and utility dolly with my order which I was charged for but no one told me we had to grab on the way out ourselves so I was expecting it to be in the van already. Get to my apartment to start my move to see we had nothing we requested. So I paid for tools that we did not receive. I mentioned it to the guy when I returned the vehicle and he just shrugged like oh well. Overall my issue is the communication could be improved. I'm just relieved this move is over with. read more

Very bad experience, though it was almost entirely the fault of Uhaul's horrendous website and "pickup the truck using only your phone" experience, rather than the people at UHaul on Rainier. When I signed up days ago to pick it up using my mobile phone, they asked for information like credit card and driver's license. So you'd think that when you arrive at UHaul to get your truck, you'd be ready. Nope. You have to then take photos of your ID and give an "alternate contact" who they then try to call (without telling you they're going to call the person). If they can't reach that person, you can't pickup your car. So I was stuck out in the cold waiting to get my truck while they called whoever I listed as the alternate contact. Then, some other customer who'd already gone through that B.S. verification step came by and got my truck! There were only 2 people working at the Rainier location while I was there, and a huge line of customers, so it took over 40 minutes of waiting to get their help and to get a truck. I'd give zero stars if I could, and I will never deal with such a backwards, sclerotic, crappy, frustrating company again. read more

Surprised to see terrible reviews here. We have had bad experiences at other U Hauls, but we had an awesome experience here! Hadn't planned to rent here, but it was the only location with the trailer we needed. Ray provided great customer service to my husband when he picked the trailer up. Pleasant, helpful, professional. Karim took the time to work out a glitch in our drop off location in eastern Washington, and kept us from ending up in a nightmare situation on our return. Avoid this location. I have rented many uhauls, and have never had an issue until visiting this location. An employee, I believe the manager was extremely rude and began yelling at me because I exited my car in the wrong location (note: I was not blocking anyone else, no trucks or cars were moving near us and we were pulled off to the side). I have never written a business review because I understand customer service employees have to deal with bad customers or bad days. However, this incident was so unacceptable I hope others avoid this location. I attempted to pay more to return the rental to a different location. We had a veeeeeery unusual experience where we opened the back and there were many things already inside the truck. We would not have been able to load our move into the truck without damaging things because of what was in there. They did make it right, on a very busy Saturday, and got us back on track for our moving endeavor and they even gave us a couple dollies to use at no extra charge. The fact that we were able to take the moving truck off the lot with the items inside (not disclosing what they were on purpose......) was a BIG oversight. So that's why the 3 stars. read more

I was hoping to avoid this review and tried every way possible to get ahold of leadership to explain my experience, but due to the lack of communication and no follow up, I'm now at the point where I have to share publicly. I rented a U-Haul from this facility which is managed by John Mattison. Richard was the employee who assisted me and was extremely courteous and professional. It was a busy Saturday morning, maybe a little short staffed, but every employee working that day did the best they could. I didn't mind the wait. When I got in the truck, I noticed the tank was empty and brought it to Richard's attention. He informed me the truck must've been siphoned over night and quickly assessed how to move forward. He advised that I fill up the tank halfway and bring it back at a half tank, and that I'd be reimbursed for this transaction. I agreed and took off for the afternoon. I returned to drop off the truck and had an $88 receipt for the half tank of gas I had to fill up. As I dropped off the truck, Richard and John were there to assist me. I explained the scenario to John and showed him the receipt for reimbursement. At that point John became extremely irate and began to scream at Richard and me in the parking lot. I'm talking wailing, shouting, and exploding at the both of us. John would shout things like, "I AM NOT REIMBURSING YOU FOR THIS", "THIS IS NOT HOW WE DO THINGS", "YOU WERE TOLD WRONG INFORMATION", etc. He made it very clear that I wouldn't be reimbursed. When Richard stepped in to inform John that this is what he advised me to do, John disgustingly screamed in his face "RICHARD! ARE YOU THE MANAGER? NO? THEN GET OUT OF MY FACE!" I have never felt more appalled, disgusted, and distressed by such a disgraceful manager. To sit there and shout in a customer and employees face was the most horrific and shameful experience I've ever encountered in a customer service environment. I've never had such a fight or flight reaction to an experience like that, and I have no doubt that Richard was feeling the same. I didn't want to say another word after encountering such a threatening experience with John. I immediately checked out and left the property. Now- the good news is, I ultimately got the $88 refunded back with no issues after that. It was a quick easy fix and was returned to me within a few days. But to have John humiliate Richard like that, during a time where he was not only doing his best but offered a logical solution to the problem, is the reason I will never return to U-Haul again. I've shared this story with family, friends and colleagues and have advised them to do the same, simply from this horrid experience with John. This all took place at the end of May, and ever since I've attempted multiple times to get ahold of local leadership to privately have this conversation. It's been two months of back and forth with multiple customer service reps trying to get in touch with Jason Brolliar, the District Manager for this U-Haul location. I have called and emailed Jason but have gotten no response, so I now feel it is my responsibility to inform the community of what to expect prior to renting a vehicle from this business. My message to the community, and I cannot stress this enough, find alternative truck rental companies. There are many options out there. My message to leadership, and specifically Jason Brolliar- please go check on those employees and make sure they are working under safe conditions. Have 1 on 1 conversations with each employee and truly hear what they have to say about working for John. Based on previous reviews you can clearly see this wasn't a onetime occurrence with him. I would encourage you listen to these reviews, listen to the feedback from these employees, and find a new manager that better exemplifies what it takes to be a leader. Even if Richard did provide wrong information, even if you do have difference processes put in place for scenarios like mine- to react in such a horrific way over an $88 mistake, only to lose a lifelong U-Haul customer, is simply not worth it. read more

I've never left a negative review because I usually give the business the benefit of the doubt and assume it was an isolated incident. In this case, I should have trusted the negative reviews. Not only was the customer service terrible, but there is zero accountability on behalf of management. I've rented from Uhaul 5+ times and have always had a good experience so this isn't necessarily about Uhaul but rather this specific location. Do not let them attach your tow dolly. Even if they do it incorrectly, they will tell you it was your fault. They will tell you it's your responsibility to read the contract closely even if you paid the extra fee to have them attach it so you would feel confident it was done right. They won't give you proper instructions either. The manager wasn't rude at all but he certainly wasn't helpful. He will just tell you there's nothing more he can do and refer you to the 1-800 number if you want to escalate your concern. It would be in your best interest to go to the one in the International District. They are a bit farther Northwest but at least they know how to give adequate service. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! One of my friends took me here since I was in need of boxes. We should have turned away when we saw the long line inside the store. The manager was telling us the computers were down so she was having a hard time looking up truck reservations but was not doing much to fix the problem. All she kept doing was whine and moan about how she had a headache and blah blah blah. Look, its ok that she had to deal with technical difficulties. However, since she was not trying to help others who were inquiring to find stuff they accidentally left in a truck they rented or hell even sell some moving boxes, I don't feel sympathetic for that staff member at all. Its absurd to wait 45 minutes to purchase a couple of boxes for under $10. When it was my turn to be rung up, she decided to help someone else with their truck reservation. To make it even worse, another staff member came out from the back and asked her if she needed help. Her response: "Don't worry, I have it ALL under control." So yeah I had to bite down my tongue while she bitched and moan about her headache while ringing my purchases. The only reason why this place even got a star was that they had an area where you can dispose used boxes so other people can use them free of charge. Yeah I definitely took advantage of that. I hope I got all the boxes I need because I do not want to return to this U-Haul Center. read more

Go to budget or anywhere else you can unless you want these people letting you know they just took 80-0 fromj your account after they do it when they spend a month attempting to figure out where roadside assistance took the vehicle. These Fing idiots called me for three weeks after returning their truck, asking where it was. Then try to charge ME 3000 for the time the lost it and then turn around and just charge an additional 752 to my bank account for some additional charges. If you want to pay to deal with a complete shit show, have at it...but they will screw you over and then just take money from your account...but at least they tell you after. They had the truck the entire time, just now quite sure which one it was, where they parked it, who they loaned it to or how it was damaged.....so they will just charge whoever had it last instead. read more

Choose anywhere but here. I went in for some boxes and the moment I pull into the parking lot I was met with unwelcomeness. "You can't park there", "park on the street or over there" which was a joke because there was nothing. The employees take up the only lot parking with their personal vehicles so their is nothing left for customers. They get paid by the hour, understaffed so apparently we are a burden on them. So rude the way they treat customers. They can easily convert a few spots to 5 minute parking but they won't. read more

We had a reservation for a 6x12 trailer and called the day before to confirm. When we arrived they advised us that they didn't have the 6x12 but not to worry they "set us up with a "5x8" This size was way to small for what we needed. When we went out to the parking lot we saw they were just checking in a 6x12 trailer and Richard was happy to check it in for us. When we went back to the Manager Mattison he told us that someone else had a reservation for that trailer later and I stated that we also had a reservation to this he stated since we were difficult clients we could just leave and he cancelled our reservation. We had to drive two hours to find another on such short notice will never recommend this facility to anyone read more

I had a bad experience at this business in 2005. At some point, I saw they were under new management. I used them as a drop-off for a one-way rental in 2018, and just used them for a short term rental today. I found them to be much improved, and would recommend them. First, I had a reservation from the night before and I arranged to use whatever the UHaul branded service is so that you don't have to wait in line but can do the rental entirely over your web-enabled smart phone. But, at 8am on a mid-month Thursday, Josh let me know it would probably be faster if I just checked in with him, so I did that. The main piece of advice I have is: Don't park your car near the propane tank. This is great advice generally, and useful in many other situations, but while Josh was doing my paperwork, another gentleman wandered in, and Josh said "You can't park there" and the gentleman said "It's okay, my wife is in the car". I guess he was trying to indicate that she'd be able to move it if it got in anyone's way while he was wandering around the retail area maybe looking for packing supplies or the checkin desk. Or, maybe she's a Targaryen. Josh said "You'll have to move it. I'll be right with you after this customer". So, the man headed out the store and they moved the car. When I went to pick up the truck, I noticed the parking space was something special like either "No Parking" or it was an ADA spot. But, the most important thing is that if a car had still been parking there, it would have been in MY WAY as I attempted to make the turn out to the driveway leading out of the lot. So, Josh was very terse, but he actually was communicating precisely what he needed to have happen so that I wasn't going to be delayed. I appreciate this, and hope he explained this later to the other gentleman. The rental proceeded fine. The truck was slightly used, some dried paint stains on the deck, minor scratches and blemishes around the outside. I took photos of everything just in case - force of habit - and reiterated I'd use the truck for a certain mileage and have it back in four hours. It turns out I doubled the miles (because I had to make two trips with my stuff) but cut the time in half. Josh was no problem at checkout; we kind of laughed because I was so certain of the mileage before. I recommend you get a truck when they are least busy, or use the website checkin if you have to do a weekend rental near the ends of a month. All in all, a pleasant experience. read more

This may have been the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I had a 4pm reservation with movers waiting and waited 15 minutes for someone to even come into the service area. Another 15 to get them to process my reservation. I was ready to pull my hair out. I had several people waiting on me and I had done my due diligence to get things ready on time. At 9AM on a Sunday morning, it took 90 minutes to go through the line of 8 customers for us to get our van rental. I repeat, 90 minutes to go through EIGHT customers. It took us the SAME AMOUNT OF TIME to then drive to Ikea, pick up our couch, manhandle it into the van, manhandle it to a basement apartment, refuel the van, and return the van. It's ridiculous to have 1 person - the owner of the franchise - working the counter, when another person on the team was only cleaning vans - there appeared to be plenty of vans already clean, so the priority was clearly not getting customers through the line. The owner was painfully slow in getting people through. I would like to note that the other employee there this morning was super kind and tried to be helpful. I approached him after 30 minutes in the line and he tried to check us in for our rental, but the owner yelled at him when he went to get our keys and he had to go back to cleaning vans and we had to go back in line. For reference, someone else in line walked to QFC, got a few things, and walked back - and his partner had only moved up ONE SPACE IN LINE. We had another reservation for our move next weekend - after our experience this morning, we will use literally any other uhaul site over this one. Geez. read more

We drove in from a three day drive from Texas and as soon as we pulled in the Uhaul people were super cool, they were already expecting us so when we got down off the truck they greeted us by name which was a very welcoming and nice thing to hear after such a long drive. Richard was a very sweet, helpful guy who made my wife and I feel very welcome to stay his new city. Thanks Ricardo. I didn't catch the name of the supervisor but he was also really cool and very helpful. Overall I recommend this uhaul even if it means going a little out of the way if one is closer. I reserved a hitch and install on the national call center and put a deposit. This took over an hour and a half on the phone. Couldn't get through on the local phone number. On the day of install, my wife went there as scheduled only to be told: 1. The hitch install tech won't arrive for 2 hours. 2. They don't have the hitch that we put a deposit on and wanted to install a different crappier hitch that didn't fit our needs. 3. When my wife asked them to call me to sort out the details (she didn't plan the thing), they were rude and flat out refused to call and basically told her to take a hike. Now I have to call the national call line again and cancel the order. Pathetic operation you got going, Uhaul. read more
