He was kind, knowledgeable, not pushy or showy, respectful, prompt in responding to text messages. We had an opportunity to get a vehicle a few months earlier from a bigger city but opted to continue to work with Garrett because we were so impressed with his professionalism and wanted to keep our money local. Last night, I hit a fallen road sign hidden in the snow after pulling off a one lane road to let an oncoming car pass. It led to a flat tire. When we had difficulty locating the spare, I sent a text message to Garrett. He indicated that he was in Charleston and came to us immediately, where he not only found the spare tire but proceeded to change out the flat tire in his suit on the dirty, wet, icy ground. He ensured that the service team knew that we would be coming in first thing today for repairs and made sure that a loaner vehicle was available. The tire was repaired within a few hours. During a holiday season when consumers and salespeople are tired, stressed and not always at their best, I wanted to highlight what a great job Garrett Lee at KC Summers in Mattoon has done for us.

I sent pictures of my trade in, and offered repeatedly to do a FaceTime walk around. I had my car assessed for trade ins at my local dealers. I drive 2 hours to buy a car from these guys and I think they just knew they "had me" and didn't think I'd drive 2 hours back empty handed. so they low balled what they gave me over the phone and lower than other reputable dealers in town quoted me. These guys are exactly why car salesmen get bad reputations.

** - Over \$10,000 Wasted, Still Driving with Unsafe Repairs**…read more Over the past year, my wife and I have spent **more than \$10,000** at **Charleston Service Center** between our **2011 Ram 1500** and **2012 Ford Fusion**. After countless return visits for improperly done repairs, I finally gave up and took our vehicles to **Oakland Service Center** -- the only shop I trust now. Let me start by saying: **Jerry Hamner**, the former owner and intake guy, was great. He was honest and professional. But under the **new ownership**, this place has turned into an unqualified, high-priced guessing game -- and it's costing people big time. --- ### **2012 Ford Fusion (My Wife's Car):** * Brakes were replaced, but the car **pulls into oncoming traffic under braking**. That is a **critical safety failure**. * The shop claimed it was fine -- either they didn't test drive the vehicle or ignored the issue entirely. * **Brakes squeal constantly**, and we were told it's "just the parts," even though we were charged for **premium components**. * As of today, her brakes are **still squealing** because we can't afford to have them redone yet -- but we will eventually, somewhere else. --- ### **2011 Ram 1500 (My Truck):** * Was told the **rear end was bent**. It wasn't. They used this to justify a **completely unnecessary rear-end replacement.** * They tried to do an **alignment three times** -- each time it got worse. My steering wheel went from straight up to **noon**, then **11 a.m.**, then **2 p.m.**, and the **tire wear was extreme**. * They pushed **premium parts** at **massive markups** -- I paid **\$2,600 for parts that retail around \$600**. * They **misdiagnosed the 4x4 system**, replaced the wrong components, and only after **I figured out the actual issue myself**, did I buy the correct part and take it to **Oakland Service Center** to be properly installed. * Now the **engine has blown**, and I'm waiting to find out from Oakland what went wrong -- because I no longer trust anything this shop did. --- ### This Is Not ASE-Certified Work Basic procedures like **greasing the back of brake pads** to prevent squeal were skipped. That's **day-one mechanic training**. I seriously doubt the current crew has **ASE certification**, and if they do, it's not reflected in their work. --- ### Want Jerry's Quality? Go to Oakland. Jerry used **Oakland Service Center** for years. That's where I go now -- and it's the only place I recommend. Charleston Service Center, under its current ownership, **blames everyone else, avoids accountability**, and is slowly destroying what Jerry built. --- ### Final Warning: If you go to Charleston Service Center, be prepared to **spend thousands**, return repeatedly, and eventually **pay another shop** to fix what they messed up. I gave them every chance. **Over \$10,000 later**, my wife's brakes still squeal, and my engine just blew. **Avoid this place unless you like wasting money and risking safety.** We are taking them to small claims court very soon.

THEY RELEASED A "LIFE HAZARD" ONTO THE ROAD - AVOID AT ALL COSTS…read more If I could give zero stars, I would. Monro, Inc. and its subsidiaries (Car X and Tire Barn Warehouse) are not just incompetent; they are dangerous. In September, Car X in Charleston stripped my lug bolts during a routine service and hid it from me. It took a separate mechanic in Pennsylvania to point out that my wheel was seized. When I went back to Charleston, they admitted they messed up, blamed a fired employee, and sent me to Tire Barn in Champaign. Instead of fixing the catastrophe, Tire Barn reinstalled a structurally compromised wheel and sent me on my way. I only found out how close I was to a fatal accident when Costco Tire Center refused to let me drive the car away this month, calling it a "huge road hazard" that no professional should have ever let on the street. To top it off, trying to get help from their corporate office was a nightmare. I spoke with a Theresa Griffith, Guest Service Manager, who was incredibly unhelpful, dismissive, and clearly didn't care that her company's negligence ruined my Easter vacation and put me in physical danger. Do not trust these people with your vehicle. They will damage your car, lie about it, and then act like you're the problem when you demand they make it right. They are a disgrace to the automotive industry.

This dealership has exceeded what I would consider reasonable or professional business conduct…read more I purchased a vehicle from this dealership approximately five years ago. Since that time, I have repeatedly and clearly requested that my phone number be removed from their contact and marketing lists. Despite multiple requests, confirmations, and assurances that my number had been removed, I continue to receive recurring sales calls. These are not occasional follow-ups but persistent solicitations that continue after explicit opt-out requests. At this stage, the repeated contact feels intrusive and disregards basic customer privacy expectations. My reluctance to maintain contact stems largely from my experience with the vehicle purchase itself. The maintenance history presented at the time of sale now appears questionable. Information that should have been disclosed transparently was either inadequately explained or omitted. Mechanical issues later arose that reasonably should have been reflected in the vehicle's documented history. Attempts to obtain clarification or accountability afterward were met with inconsistent explanations and limited cooperation. My interactions with the service department further undermined confidence in the dealership's professionalism. On one occasion, I was informed that a light bulb replacement could not be completed due to the presence of an aftermarket LED component. This explanation proved inaccurate, as the underlying problem was ultimately identified as faulty wiring. Rather than conducting a thorough diagnostic assessment, the service department provided misleading information and failed to properly address what should have been a straightforward repair. The experience gave the impression of inadequate troubleshooting and a lack of diligence. As a result: I no longer have confidence in the dealership's transparency regarding vehicle history or post-sale support. The repeated requests to cease contact have not been respected. Their service interactions reflected poor diagnostic practices and insufficient accountability. A reputable dealership should respect clearly communicated opt-out requests and provide accurate, transparent information both during and after a sale. Continued unwanted contact, combined with unresolved concerns regarding vehicle history and service quality, reflects poorly on the organization's customer care standards. Consumers who value transparency, professional service practices, and respect for personal boundaries should carefully consider these factors before conducting business with this dealership. Based on my experience, I would not choose to purchase from or work with this dealership again.

I put a down payment on jeep and it was still advertised on CarGurus and the day I picked it up the price was lowered $500. They would not honor the advertised price. After making the 2 trips, they did not even detail the jeep (the wheels were horrible) or fill the tank up. It had less than a half of a tank. Plus they ran my credit way too many times -- when I told him we were preapproved through our credit union. I sent them an email. No response. Their representative called me to see how my experience was and I told her. She said that she would tell the manager and I still have not heard anything. Shady business practices to say the least.
