ive been using uber for almost 2 months now and ill say i can never go back to cabs. all the drivers have been nice, the cars clean, and the app works ok on my phone (galaxy s4). i mean its occasionally buggy but what app isnt? i have also had a couple times where a car enroute cancels but ordering another was a cinch. all the people giving bad reviews about surge pricing are just morons. It gives a popup telling you the higher rate and even makes you TYPE IN THE MULTIPLIER BEFORE YOU ORDER. if you were drunk and not only accepted a popup, typed in the multiplier AND STILL ordered a HUGELY overpriced ride.....well thats your fault i say. The price surge is to get more drivers on the road when the demand is higher. There have been times when there was a surge in the area and i waited 20 minutes and the price was back down to regular rates. Its a great business model and after this new years seemed to have made a killing off idiots. GOOD JOB UBER! read more

What I wrote to uber customer service: I wish you had a customer service number so I could explain the situation better. I'm very disappointed with your business. The majority of my rides with your drivers end with me being in utter frustration. Your drivers don't know where they're going ever. They follow the gps instead of using their reason or even knowledge of the city. It is NOT the passengers responsibility to know the best route. That is not why we are paying you to drive us some where. The last time I took uber your driver followed her gps and took us the wrong way. I wrote a complaint that was shrugged off. No reimbursement or acknowledgement that your service has failed. To remind you- your service is poor. I might as well take cabs again. All of your drivers are rude, inexperienced and confused. I want you to know your competition lyft is superb. I take lyft exclusively now because their drivers know where they are driving and the offer much better customer service. In this particular situation, your driver asked me which way to go when we had arrived to a fork in the road off the highway. I was looking down at my phone and when I looked up I wasn't sure where to go. I said "follow the gps I don't know" of course the gps took us to the exact opposite route missing my destination. There wasn't anywhere to turn around so I asked your driver if he could turn off the payment. He was annoyed by this but I explained that we should have already arrived at the destination. He obliged which helped with my frustration. On the way back (now through traffic) he said, "you told me to take the gps that's why we went the wrong way". I said "it is not my responsibility to know the most effective and efficient way to get some where. That's your job." And I stand by that. I shouldn't have to feel guilty because I didn't know the street to turn on. I entered my destination before your driver picked me up. He had plenty of time to review the map and the directions before the ride started. On our way back he asked me again for the address. When I told him he repeated it back incorrectly and was typing it into the gps. Again, this is an example of how your drivers are completely and totally dependent on gps. Your drivers should know how to get everywhere in the city they drive. It should be part of their training and vetting. I won't blame my driver though. It's not his fault he wasn't trained well so please don't reprimand him. He did apologize and say "sorry for the inconvenience" after the ride. However because of your consistently poor service and lack of improvement, I will not be using your service ever again. I would rather take a cab or even better a lyft or the train. You have lost my business- I am deleting the app and discouraging every one I know from using your service. You have too much going on with legislation and with problems in the media for your service to be this terrible. You should be exceeding expectations at this point. This is what i have been waiting for. I always wondered why Chicago didnt have car service like NYC. Well, now we do. I downloaded the app about 2 months ago and have been using this service ever since. I couldn't stand that the cabs I was calling would come in 30 minutes or not at all but these guys are always on time w/in 2 minutes and w/ clean beautiful cars. Even with the price increase, Uber is a service I don't mind paying for. Being able to call the driver is crucial, and getting a cab is easy even if you have to try multiple times. I had some trouble in the beginning because I couldn't figure out the pin drop, I kept typing in my address only to get a different nearby address pop up when ordering. Why does it keep doing that? I didn't realize I had to drag the pindrop to my location. read more

Had a TERRIBLE experience with Uber recently. At O'Hare international terminal, and requested uber comfort ride. Estimated time 7 minutes. We waited 45 minutes! No apology. We had 2 large bags, but couldn't fit 2nd bag in, so driver tried to smash it in by slamming the trunk to make it fit! We made him take out and put in back seat. Got home and after he took bags out, again, no apology and he sped off recklessly! When we reviewed receipt, we got charged wait fee!! Uber did refund the fee, but nothing more... excuses made, but nothing else other than "sorry for less than desirable experience "..... Shame on you Uber! read more

BEST. IDEA. EVER. I can't believe it took until 2012 for someone to get this together in Chicago. Took a regular cab out to the location, took an Uber on back, only about $5 dollars more. What's $5 dollars worth these days? Well to me: 1. Not having to wait outside waving down non-existent cabs like a goon; 2. Not having to worry about if this cab decides to take credit cards or not tonight; 3. Not wondering what level of filth I'll have to sit in; 4. Knowing that I'll have a courteous ride home; 5. The fun of the slight vanity of taking a private car. BEST PART OF UBER: I will never worry about my girlfriend having to take a sketchy cab home: there is a record of who picks you up and they're vetted by way of Uber's ranking system. Until Uber came along, it would be almost impossible for me to get home unless public transportation was available. I would be left stranded many times by taxi drivers who I'd call for who just didn't feel like driving me to my home on the south side. What a horror! We called Uber for a ride to LAX. The driver had difficulty finding our house and then suddenly while we were giving him directions he just canceled the trip. We panicked. Ended up driving to the airport in a rush and had to assume the cost of parking the car for five days. Never again. I think I got screwed. $139 to ride from Ohare to Greyslake. Some taxi companies have a flat rate of $49 for that. we did go a mile out of our way to stop at a walmart for 3 minutes. I know the taxi meter said seventy something when he dropped me off. No phone number of email for me to enquire. :( read more

I was on the phone for the last 55 mins with Uber Customer Service which is in the Philippines to either unlock my account or to just send me via email a copy of the last statement which was 12/2018. Zia which sounded like a robot repeating the same nonsense over and over after I would answer her question she would ask again. She had the audacity to tell me to hang up and call back and get another agent in which I asked what is the other agent going to do that she can't. She said tell me the same. REALLY!! Then Supervisor John comes on and tells me they can't help me either. I am livid at this point with this nonsense. NIce job UBER you can't even employ your customer service in the states and let me guess because you can get away with paying them cheaper!!!!! read more

Once again Uber emphasizes it's "we give no shit about customers" policy. Requested an Uber Monday morning from Hoffman Estates to O'Hare Airport, the driver got lost on his way, so the 6 minute estimate turned into 15 minutes, fair enough this can happen. When the driver gets there he doesn't know how to use the system because he is new, he cancels the trip by accident and then we have to spend 10 minutes trying to re-request the ride so the same driver gets my request again, again I don't blame the driver but a company should invest at least minimal amount of effort to educate the people at the very least how to execute the service. Because Uber has absolutely no customer support of any description besides an email that goes to deaf ears there is no way to handle a situation like this. Even with the extra time allowed I am now running late for my flight not because of unforeseen circumstances but simply Uber's lack of responsibility toward their customers AND drivers!! Sadly this is not the end of this fiasco, on top of the poor service they have the audacity to charge me for the trip the driver canceled AND for the trip to the airport with the same person. I send them a note through the "problem with a ride" form but as usual deaf ears, 3 days later no reply, no adjustment to my account nothing! . I have over 600 rides in the last 2 years across my personal and business account. Most times there is very little problems, but I've had quite a few bad trips from simple misunderstandings to a driver locking me in the car while I scream for fear of my life to be let out and it's ALWAYS, ALWAYS!! The same, there is no customer support from Uber, there is no one you can get in touch with for help, their registered phone numbers in Chicago are all automated and your emails will more often than not slip through the cracks and never replied to. For anyone else using Uber for it's ease and convenience, please consider that many Taxi companies have updated their prices and procedures to be very competitive and they will have someone to handle any issues that may occur. read more

I rode with this guy Alexander in Jeep Renegade. He drove me about a mile before he decided to cancel my ride and leave me in some random place. He told me he had something more important to do than finish my ride home. I thought his actions were unacceptable and unprofessional. read more

It's a great idea - when it works. I only do the taxis, cannot afford the black cars. I can only find a taxi on the app maybe 1 out of every 10 times. Never in the morning (apparently they do not go outside the Loop in the morning) and weekends are even sometimes hard. I would like to use the service more, but you need to be able to find a cab to use it! read more

With all the bad reviews you might think this is a bad chapter here in Chicago. Used it about 10 times when I went to see Babymetal. I have used uber in Dallas, Houston, El Paso. Great group of people I was lucky to connect with. Some surge pricing but you can also get notified when prices drop. The fares seemed surprisingly cheap. Even used uber black. That was great too. These negative reviews are scaring me. I used uber last weekend and it was my first time. It was simple, quick and I had a promo code so it all worked out. To be clear, I used the uberX service. It's the cheaper option. I had a newer clean car, and my driver named Lucky I believe, was so nice! I actually had a conversation the whole way home, WILLINGLY. He was very welcoming, especially upon telling him it was my first uber ride. I'm one who is paranoid about everything and everyone! And I have had some bad cab driver experiences, this uberX option was up my alley!! No cash exchanges, no risk of having someone steal your card, no fumbling over cash and fighting for change back... Almost 4yrs driving and this is how things work.20+ days UBER has held up my funds that were hacked from me. 20+ days UBER associates has claimed that a specialized team could assist. In those 20+ days I have changed my bank information and completed all that was instructed. Per yet another instruction,  I have sent my statement proving that I had not received my $90.62 EARNED funds that I made on JULY 7, 2019. I did not hesitate to contact UBER as soon as it happened, I was calm and very patient for 19 days. Today after having my INSTANT pay frozen in order to obtain my current funds for a week, my $90+ is not there. UBER associates have lied and inconvenienced me since JULY 7, 2019 approx 12:30am. NOW after all of the back and forth and run around I am being inconvenienced AGAIN and being told to go to the GREENLIGHT HUB. Last year I was hacked via UBER'S GO BANK CARD I obtained a police report, filed a report with Go Bank's "investigation" department and they failed to investigate. I endured that process for months and still have not received the $264 funds stolen from me. Shame on me for supporting UBER, but as a Single Mother you try to do whatever necessary to pay your bills. I have learned the hard way for the 2nd time, that UBER is a company that can not help or protect you from PHISHERS/SKIMMERS/HACKERS/etc. It is not the fault of the customer service team for reading and memorizing scripts of empathy, but rather UBER for the delay, lack of respect for your time, dedication,  loyalty, service and UBER'S relationship with GO BANK. read more

I LOVE this service! I just wish I had known about it sooner. A friend told me about it a couple of weeks ago and as I was waiting 45 minutes for a cab I called for, I registered for Uber and they were there to get me in 10 minutes. The couple of times I have used it the drivers are more than friendly, cars clean and they seriously treat you like a VIP. maybe a couple of dollars more, but more than worth it for the ease of use! read more

I used to LOVE Uber... However, I think they've grown faster than their ability to hire and train drivers. OBSERVATIONS: * I live in a very central area in the Gold Coast... so it's a GIANT RED FLAG to me when the driver is confused regarding how to get there or thinks they can make a left turn onto Oak Street from Michigan Ave. * Four drivers over the past 2 weeks have used the Uber map app as their excuse for poor navigation from Point A to Point B... however, that is NO excuse. That tells me that the Uber map probably is poorly designed and/or the drivers are poorly trained since it doesn't occur to them to seek other map resources that are accurate. * When I asked 2 of how long they'd be driving professionally, one responded, "1 week" and the other responded "3 weeks." CONCESSIONS, I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because: * They arrive FAST and it's not as easy for someone to "steal" them from you as it is to take your taxi... since they are expecting to pick up a specific person, not just any fare. * Even though the drivers don't seem to have any knowledge of how to navigate the city, they are always very nice and courteous. * Earlier this week, I had an Uber driver named Joseph who was ABSOLUTELY GREAT! Although he noted that the Uber map was wrong, he had no problem getting me home because of his own knowledge of the city from having been a civil worker for several years. 5 STARS for Joseph all day long! REQUESTS TO UBER: * Please TRAIN your drivers. Just do whatever the City of Chicago does to train taxi drivers. * FIX your drivers' map app! Ok this is my third ever Uber ride in Chicago & one of the best rides of my life. Ronald Carter a retired LA Lakers player was our driver. Our conversation was so captivating discussing playing ball & both of us discussing our interacting with legend Bobby Knight. Our ride seemed to take one second which was sad because it was so fun to chat away about the Canton Football Hall of Fame, Three Rivers Stadium, Francko Harris, Brian Sipe, Terry Bradshaw & more...........As you can read I am enjoying thinking about our excellent conversation. Too bad it had to end but our groups hope is that when we need our next Uber ride that Ronald in his Saturn with license plate Honey du will pick us up yet one more time. read more

Uber does not take accountability for their drivers actions no matter how much proof you give. For example; I have been charged numerous times for drivers mistakes and Uber refuses to refund anything due to the amount of refunds I request. I do not request full refunds but I do request small refunds that are attached to my fare AFTER I accept the initial fee. This happens when drivers don't end my rides on time, when drivers go back and forth to pick me up twice and I'm doubled charged and when drivers pick me up a block away from my location and I request Uber X due to having a lot of bags and etc. I try to take Lyft about 98% of the time. Sometimes it's a few cents extra but I'm willing to pay it due to the awesome customer service. Uber is a LAST resort in case all else fails. read more

Signed up for Uber Eats and it failed to verify, but it took all my credit card info first. There is no 'live' customer support for this. You must send an email and wait - so you better plan an alternative food service to eat the night you first sign up. Also, after it didn't verify it let me place the order up through payment. It took the promo code. They say they've fixed it (who knows really, can't speak with a live person) but when I tried to order again it said it already used the promo code (apparently it kept that and my credit card info). Requested they delete my account three times and just got emails telling me to try again, so they won't even delete my credit card info - thanks for the ID theft opportunity Uber! Am calling State Attorney's office to deal with the situation. read more

Told not once but twice in writing......."reward bonus of $640 once you'll complete 75 trips" & "once you complete 75 rides in 30 days you will receive the bonus $640 as invitee reward." Nothing stated about driver earnings --- nothing stated in regards to a reference or policy to refer to. Just basically: 75 rides, 30 days = $640 bonus Last time a check - bonus meant "in addition to" 75 rides completed within 30 days. Now, i was told i am confused. REALLY???? I did my part. read more

UPDATE: the Uber team has followed up with me directly to try to address my not so positive experience. I give a lot of credit for customer service and will give them a second chance. I am changing my stars from 1 to 3 as a result ...for now ;) So, was VERY excited to use Uber to head downtown for our 10th wedding anniversary. Activated the app - it told me there was a car 15 min from my location...and then "Sorry - all cars in are full at this time! Try back soon!". Try back soon? What did that mean "soon"? Soon another day? Soon later tonight? So I responded to the text they sent me, telling me they could not take my business, and asked that question wondering if i had to order a cab. Of course - the text is automated and there is NO mechanism in the app to get a clue as to whether you are just SOL or far down the list. I live on the South Side which may have something to do with it - but if a company claims to service Chicago - then it should service all parts. Great idea - very poorly executed. I installed the app six weeks ago and have already used the service ~20 times and love it overall. My one gripe is when you get a town car that is old, like five years old. Also, most drivers are great but I also give lower ratings when the town car driver drives abruptly. I expect that from cabs, but the town car drivers should be smooth without harsh acceleration and breaking. All the drivers have been very courteous. Again, what a great app and it makes my life easier. read more

I have used Uber in Chicago for a few months now and had never expected the experience I had monday morning. Getting off the train and standing right outside of union station, I arranged a driver from Uberx. My location was given and I had even given the driver specific street names and buildings as if Union Station was not easy enough to find. The driver (Errol) could not figure out how to get to me despite the directions I gave him, I cancelled the request multiple times aware of the cancellation fee but I had somewhere to be and did not have time for this, and each time I requested a new uberx he would take the request and continued to become more angry. After about 20 minutes I told him I was canceling the trip and was going to take a taxi because I needed to get to class, where he then began to SCREAM and CURSE at me over the phone at the top of his lungs. I could not believe it and hung up right away and jumped into the nearest taxi, later on I saw he STILL charged me with a cancellation fee so I had emailed Uber the entire story and all they did was refund me and say "sorry for the inconvenience." I fear for anyone who may get in the car with this driver. Please refrain from using UberX at any cost. You may never know if who you are about to get into a car with is safe. If you ever come across a driver named Errol, driving a ford fusion hybrid, cancel the trip and try to find a different way of transportation. read more

Hi, I'm a regular user of Uber and I requested a UberX car on 26 Nov 2014. One of your drivers responded and showed up in a few minutes. He then texted me to let me know that he is waiting outside and I came out of my house. As I was waiting for him to open the trunk, he popped out his head out of the driver's side window and here is the conversation that happened: Driver: Hey, where are you going man? Me: To O'Hare Driver: Nope, I'm not going to going there Me: But you accepted the ride request Driver: Nope, not going there At this moment, he just took off. I did not want to use Uber at that time but it was getting close to my flight time and I had to call another Uber car. But this time, everything was fine and I was able to get to the airport.
